Yes, I do this always at the beginning of the new year. And I intent to do so soon.
Maybe some more members will use the great Lockdown months for a new list before the update?
There are also some of our longtime members which haven’t updated their lists for a zillion years. Scherp for example, or our chief Seb … now’s the chance …
That was my old Top 20. The new version follows (with directors and good enough music composers stated) :
1 For A Few Dollars More (Sergio Leone) - music Ennio Morricone
2 Once Upon A Time In The West (Sergio Leone) music Ennio Morricone
3 A Fistful Of Dollars (Sergio Leone) music Ennio Morricone
4 The Good, The Bad And The Ugly (Sergio Leone) music Ennio Morricone
5 My Name Is Nobody (Tonino Valerii) music Ennio Morricone
6 The Big Gundown (Sergio Sollima) music Ennio Morricone
7 Django Kill If You Live Shoot (Giulio Questi) music Ivan Vandor
8 Cemetery Without Crosses (Robert Hossein) music André Hossein
9 Dead Men Ride/At The End Of The Rainbow/ (Aldo Florio) music Bruno Nicolai
10 Requiem For A Gringo/Duel In Eclipse (Eugenio Martín, José Luis Merino) music Angelo Lavagnino
11 Johnny Yuma (Romolo Guerrieri)
12 Kill The Wicked/ God Does Not Pay On Saturday (Tanio Boccia) music Angelo Lavagnino
13. The Stranger Returns/A Man, A Horse, A Gun (Luigi Vanzi) music Stelvio Cipriani
14 Viva Django / Django, Prepare A Coffin (Ferdinando Baldi) music Gianfranco Reverberi
15 The Big Silence/The Great Silence (Sergio Corbuccio) music Ennio Morricone
16 Death Rides A Horse (Giulio Petroni)
17 Day Of Anger (Tonino Valerii)
18 The Grand Duel (Giancarlo Santi)
19 Sabata (Gianfranco Parolini)
20 The Forgotten Pistolero/Gunman Of Ave Maria (Ferdinando Baldi) music Roberto Pregadio
The films in each group are very close, and I could swap them around easily. And the next which are outside the top 20 are also very close to the ones which are in, but these are the ones I think are at the moment the most fun to watch.
@stanton had put a revolver to my head and forced me to reconsider, so I shall attempt an upgrade of my list as follows:
The previous 15. is out, sorry Giulio, its place takes (new) Tepepa
The previous 11. is out, sorry Sergio, its place takes 16.
New 16: Anda Muchacho Spara
The previous 19. switches with 14.
The number 8. and 13. trade places
And the previous 20. is out, sorry Sergio (this is a tough one that I might regret after a way overdue rewatch of the film, but hell, we need to make tough choices), and its place goes (new) Death Rides a Horse.
And then I did some more thinkging and I need to demote Companeros to 18, and I kick Keoma (sorry bearded man), and put in a surprise title that has really grown on me and will surely cause some controversy
Yes, interesting. The only ones that I really don’t like are the atrocious His Colt Himself His Revenge, Django and Sartana are Coming and to a lesser extent Law of Violence.
Making a comparison even Austrian forumer Viva Matalo’s list (that I remembered as the strangest, probably because it included as number 14 none other than Halleluja and Sartana Strike Again!) seems fairly ‘‘normal’’.
I like Sledge very much, not sure if I would categorize it as a spaghie though. It’s more along the lines of a very successful hybrid, that’s why it’s not in my Alternative Top 20 after all.
Unlike most other westerns directed by US directors in Europe I think Sledge is closer to the SW than to the US stuff.
At least for this one I never questioned its Spaggie status. Also for Five Men Army.
But I think there are some which were co-produced by Italians, which are doubtless no Spags for me. Especially not Chino (J. Sturges) or China 9 (M. Hellman), but I would have no problem to view 3 Bullets for a Long Gun as one, so much spagiesque is that one.
And Red Sun, the total Euro-Western, it’s in the list, but it is still not a real SW for me.
After hard years of reshuffling and rearranging, handwringing and hairsplitting, invoking all the gods and goddesses of the Occident and Orient, pleading for illumination, I have finally managed to compile this list. As ever, San Procrastinato was of no help to me.
Sergio Corbucci, Il grande silenzio, 1968
Sergio Corbucci, Django, 1966
Giulio Petroni, Tepepa, 1969
Sergio Corbucci, Il mercenario, 1968
Giuseppe Colizzi, Dio perdona … io no!, 1967
Sergio Corbucci, Navajo Joe, 1966
Sergio Corbucci, I crudeli, 1967
Sergio Corbucci, Che c’entriamo noi con la rivoluzione?, 1972
Ok then, after some hesitation, the 15 years of voting update.
191 lists now, one worse than the other, but all guaranteed lordoftherings-free, and when we reach the 200, it will be one of the great achievements of mankind.

God Made Them… I Kill Them / God Forgives … His Life is Mine
What happened since the last update in the top 20?
Finally Run Man Run fell out (for now) of the top 20, probably for the first time since the voting started.
Apart from that FoD lost one place in favor of Django, as did My Name Is Nobody, which is now behind The Return of Ringo.
New in the top 50 is Dead Men Ride, for the first time. Quite interesting as this one did not get a single vote before 2010.
And The Ruthless Four is instead now out.
