The movie has recently been broadcast on Cine34, but we’re talking about the cut VM14 version missing the bloody hands at the beginning, the conclusion of the arm wrestling scene, the knife in the neck and above all the famous ending.
Really enjoyed this one, but I think that’s mostly thanks to Peter Lee Lawrence. One of my favorite Spaghetti Western actors, and seeing him grow more nefarious as he takes lessons from the old outlaw Lefty was a lot of fun. Besides Lawrence, though, the movie did some cool things to offer like the Sheriff’s backstory with the bullets, and the ending shot of death.
I love this one too, as well as Johnny Hamlet (which is in my top 10). I actually wish there were one or two more Shakespeare adaptions in the genre.
I love the ending! It just comes out of nowhere, but I think that is what makes it so great.
I think it’s the strangest ending I’ve seen to a spag that I can recall. It works really well though.

Yeah, there a few sort of strange parts sprinkled throughout the film like that ending, the flashback with the sheriff, and that arm wrestling contest that really add some flavor to an otherwise relatively simple story.
This movie’s page in the SWDb has been updated to the new “SWDb 3.0” format .

Whoever has the DVD and is thinking of upgrading: don’t expect too much. In fact, if you’re short on money you may even want to skip this as it look not that much better than the DVD if your player or screen can do a solid upscale…
That’s a shame. Too late though because I ordered it. Oh well, guess I’ll see.
Yikes. I’ll see if I can cancel my Amazon order then I guess
I don’t wanna talk anyone out of their purchase. I am sure it’s a legit replacement of DVD represenation of the movie, but all in all, it’s just not up to par… ifyou have HD equipment it might still look better than watching it from the DVD though, I don’t anymore have the option to compare it directly
Well it’s already been dispatched so I might as well give it a try. I don’t own the DVD so not really a huge loss. A bit disappointing given how impressed I’ve been with all their other EM release I’ve purchased
Any chance you could upload screen caps or phone pictures of your TV?
that won’t do any good. it’s just quite the pixelfest, I doubt it’s a new 4K transfer. especially anything out of focus or in the background looks rather bad with too much DNR etc…
Ah what a disappointment. This would happen on the one release I decide to buy around the release date ![]()

That is disappointing - thanks for the heads up, Sebastian … this is one I rate highly. ![]()
