Wild East Productions

The dubs are different as well, the kino lorber disc is 91 minutes, it has James Coburn’s actual voice in the dub… the longer version which has the guy who usually dubs Maurizio Merli.

No surprise there. I think they’ve used stuff from those Japanese Macaroni Western Bible box sets in the past aswell.

I didn’t know that.
Most of the Macaroni releases, though nice quality in their day were non anamorphic, so after they’ve been converted to 16x9 that’s a drop in overall pic quality.

It’s just pure speculation from my side.

Haha. I’m picturing Wild East waiting to ambush a stagecoach of new prints to slap an English dub onto them. There’s a revisionist Western.

kino should have put both on .i agree.

It looks like Wild East is getting ready to give The Ugly Ones aka The Bounty Killer a blu ray release on October 12th. It includes interviews with Tomas Milian, Eugeno Martin, and even the legendary Frank Brana. I didn’t post a pre-order link in the event there is one SWDB wants to use.

Edited for the link:

The Ugly Ones Blu Ray Edition - $16.28 : Wildeast, The spaghetti western specialists

Post away, great news! Great movie

I have the French Blu Ray Mediabook of The Bounty Killer (aka The Ugly Ones), and the quality on that release is pretty solid. I’ve heard far too many mixed opinions of Wild East to buy any of their editions, but that’s just me.

Frankly, in my opinion, it all depends on the specific movie they have released. Some are really high quality and some not so much - it all depends on what they have to work with to begin with. They have released many hard to find movies over the years though so I personally can’t complain.

Isn’t there also a Spanish Blu-ray?

The only other Blu Ray I know of is the French release but I believe it has Spanish audio on it.

yes ,very exited. The Pre order price is like 14 and some change,

The picture quality of Ugly Ones on the Wild East DVD, where it’s coupled with Corbucci’s Sonny and Jed, is not so good, and in ways that I don’t think would be remedied by a blu-ray transfer alone. Is there a chance WE might be working from better material for the blu?

Unlikely they just used the material that was the basis for a decades old DVD…

It was crap … it looks like a low resolution xvid rip of about 700mb blown up to DVD size - However the new release will undoubtedly be using the French release Blu ray, which looks fantastic

Wow. Thanks, Aldo. Vastly reassured!

I’m not speaking from any insider knowledge - it just seems obvious to me that they’d use this as it’s the best available source - Hope they find a better quality English dub than that used on the DVD ! LOL :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

The funny thing is that the French Blu-ray has already been fandubbed. So, why pay for a ‘retail fandub’?
