Too bad for Hate Is My God, which makes my top 20. But I’m also waiting for that damn disc to rewatch it, to be more sure about how good it is. And yes, meanwhile I don’t expect that release to come true, it was announced over 10 years ago.
On the other hand Django Shoots First is another one I like, and it didn’t get any vote before.
Yes, you’re right, I also hardly believe that Film Art will release the film anymore. I have two versions, each about 90 minutes long, but they differ in that each has additional scenes that are not included in the other version. That’s why a complete restored version would be very welcome!
In Django Shoots First, Bruno Nicolai’s fantastic soundtrack has a big influence on my rating. Music always plays a very important role for me.
The 22th of January marks the 20 year jubilee of voting for the forum’s top 20. Hurra, clap clap, fireworks …
Quite an achievement, where else do you get a list of 200 fans over such a long time period?
Thank you to all contributors, especially those who updated form time to time.
I intend to post the annual update list on that day.
If someone wants to change his list, or post his first one, to be part of the anniversary Top 20, it’s still time …
The # 1 is probably the same as last year, but we’ll see …
Bit of trepidation from me here as I’m relatively new to the genre (especially in terms of logging my filmography and ratings), but a couple of months ago I decided to try and compile my top 20 from scratch and keep track of all the SW’s I watch.
From scratch basically meant I’d have to rewatch and rate films such as the Dollars Trilogy or the majority of Lee Van Cleef’s that I saw when I was younger - but sadly I haven’t got round to rewatching everything while also trying to watch new material. So there are a fair few missing.
I’ve also only logged and rated 35 SW’s thus far, and with such a low number, I was going to hold off posting until next year, but I’m actually OK with the top 20 I have, I wasn’t going to post it if it included films I didn’t like or wouldn’t rewatch, but surprisingly, I’ve found myself liking the majority that I end up watching. For instance in my list of 35, there are only 9 that have a rating that is below 5, with only 2, maybe 3 of those being films being films that I’d groan at having to rewatch again.
Yes, watched or rewatched since around November time. That’s when I began logging and rating the SW’s properly. For instance TGTBTU would enter my top 3 or 4 I’m sure, but it’s been a while since I saw it and I’d like a rewatch before adding it the list. Just me being a bit OCD about timings.
You might reconsider your list.
Your list should be made of the Spags you like the most, you enjoy the most, and you need not to use only fresh memories, judging from memory is ok, and you can post an updated list any time you feel that some changes have happened.
So if you are sure that GBU or other films you watched long ago are amongst your favourites, or at least will be also after a re-watch, your list should reflect that.
Not that the Leone films need more points, and actually I have great sympathy for the films by Vari and Mulargia which got points from you, but the list should be made of all your favourites.
And as I said, if after a re-watch a film is less good than remembered, you can change it any time.
If no one objects, for the next completely new lists which are posted here, the following older ones will be taken out of the voting, all from 2009:
Akasava
Nessuno
mene-tekel
Kinski
Garabombo
There are still about 20 older lists from the previous 3 years, but they are all from members which posted a lot, or which still visited the forum in the last years, or which have at least great knowledge about the genre. Like one who mentioned that he has watched 350 Spags.
The above five lists are from members who either made only one post (the list then obviously), or were only a few days active, or have watched only a small number of SWs when preparing the list, like Akasava with most likely less than 40 films. These kind of lists are the first candidates to be erased to keep the list more actual.

My current one which has changed since last submitting it about 2 years ago. Gone is A Stranger in town and replaced with Dead Men Ride, and Big Gundown has taken over from Face to Face as my favourite Sollima film. Other than that minor changes in certain placements with the top 2 still standing strong as ever. I’ve currently watched and own between 160-170 SW’s and will revise the whole list again once I get to 200.
Ok then, I will also update my top 20, even if not much has changed.
Only They Call Me Halleluja is a new entry.
When I first watched that I did not liked it, but I returned to this film again and again, and it got better with every viewing, became one of the Spags I watched the most.

On this day 20 years ago on the 22th January 2006 the first post of this thread written, the voting process had started.
All in all 232 lists were posted here, and also many of them revised since then. To keep the list dynamic I started in recent years to eliminate older lists for every new one posted, so that 32 lists are no longer part of the tabulation.
So here it is, the 20th birthday list generated of 200 individual lists compiled and posted by SW fans:
