I have seen 3 versions. On Amazon Germany there is a 90 minute version, an English grey market version with 93 minutes and an Italian version also with 93 minutes. There are scenes in all 3 versions that are not included in the others. That’s why the Blu-ray from Filmart, which has been announced 10 years ago, is long overdue and hopefully uncut. This SW is unique, bizarre, ludicrous, completely crazy, extraordinary, over the top, strange, cruel, enigmatic, silent, strongly symbolic, dark and rugged.
The review on swdb is very good! https://www.spaghetti-western.net/index.php/Hate_Is_My_God_review
Just out of curiosity, They Call Him Cemetery was in your old list # 11, and is now not even in your Top 50.
You forgot that one, or is it just one you don’t like that much anymore?
Hmm, it’s a very underrated film, often quite stylish, a bit silly in places of course, as compensation for the mix-up you should rewatch it immediately and put in your top 10 for at least 2 years …
I rewatched both films again and really like them both. Spirito Santo is also fun, but Camposanto and Spirito just missed the top 50. However, the transition between places 20-75 is often fluid in terms of ratings. I think that as a fan of the genre, you should have at least 100 spaghetti westerns in your collection.
The Carnimeos are all fun to watch, up to the point when the comedy took over, mainly the last 2 with Hilton as Tresette. I rewatched Camposanto too a few weeks ago, and Spiritio Santo and the 4 Sartanas also not so long ago.
For me the 1st Halleluja is his best, actually I did not care for it the first time I watched it, but since then it got better and better and better, actually Halleluja will make my next top 20 …
Where will that end? Will Halleluja one day kick Leone from the throne? Is it a god send film in the end? If so, why does the world ignore its blessings? And what has Dumb Trump to do with it?
MHGA …
Decided to finally create my own top 20. It’s tougher than I anticipated. Also I can’t remember all of the ones I’ve watched in the past few years, so I think re-watches will be required.
Yes, objectively speaking, it’s certainly a more than good film. Personally, I simply prefer other Spaghetti Westerns. In Once Upon a Time in the West, everything seems to happen at half speed. Of course, that’s a stylistic device, and it’s precisely because of it that some scenes are unforgettable, especially in conjunction with the great visuals and the first-class music. But I simply enjoy watching many other films in this genre much more.
