Well, there is a lot of stuff about him on the internet, but briefly, he was a second rate pop singer in the early sixties, and when his career didn’t take off in the States, he went to South America where he was very popular. Whilst living in Argentina, his politics took a distinct left turn and eventually he was deported by the Argentinian government. He then moved to Rome and appeared in a string of westerns before finally settling in East Germany, where again, he was very popular through the seventies, although it appears he may have been a bit of a governmental puppet. He became a bit of a hate figure in America after an interview on 60 Minutes, but still expressed a desire to return to the country of his birth to live. However, six weeks later he was found dead in a lake near to his home at age 47, and rumours have abounded ever since about how he ended up there. Some say he was murdered (variously by the Stasi, the KGB and the CIA!), while others believe he comitted suicide, (apparently recently an ex secret police member in East Germany said that he did leave a suicide note and that they had confiscated it). Anyway, there was a book out about him called “Comrade Rockstar” and this has been optioned by Tom Hanks, with a view to filming it. Rumour does have it that Hanks would also play the title role! Seems a bit ridiculous since Hanks is now older than Reed was when he actually died, and looks absolutely nothing like him, but i guess that’s Hollywood for you!
watched “GENTLEMAN KILLER” this evening with Anthony Steffen, quite a good western and a superb middle third of the film where he gradually picks out the bandits.
Watched Django, Kill which I taped last night. It also had the 5 minute documentary from Mr Cox before hand you saw on BBC2 Yodlaf. I enjoyed the film although the soundtrack jumped a couple of times between english and italian. This always seemed to happen during a particularly gruesome scene. i.e. when the townspeople are rummaging about in Oaks’ body looking for gold bullets, or during the scalping scene. Then after a few minutes it would revert back to english dialogue. Anyone scene a print like this before?
It’s the same print as the UK Argent dvd. The reinserted violent scenes have no English audio, hence the language jumps. The Blue Underground dvd has the option of the full Italian soundtrack with englsh subtitles.
“Forgotten Pistolero”, which was good. Hadn’t seen Peter Martell playing a good guy before, and geez, you had to feel sorry for his character!
Also watched “Massacre At Grand Canyon”, which was a freebie, and probably not a film i would have bought. That said, it was an OK time waster i guess. A bit more like a US western, and the characters seemed to spend most of the time hanging around a bunch of rocks shooting aimlessly, but the music was nice Had to laugh though; Andrea Giordana looked about 15!
What a coincidence-i was watching this one yesterday! I was surprised how great movie it is! Defineatly underrated and i would put it in my top 20, that’s for sure
7 Women for the MacGregor
-Entertaining film, plot isn’t that good but great action scenes.
White Fang and the Gold Diggers
-Not good. Partly is just comedy and children’s film stuff but partly is quite violent. Good music by Alessandro Alessandroni anyway.
10,000 dollars blood money, cemetary without crosses, tombstone, unforgiven, wild bill, pursued
watched “FORT YUMA GOLD” wild east dvd the other night.
I recently watched “And For A Roof, A Sky Full O’ Stars”. It wasn’t as good as i had hoped it might be. That great soundtrack aside, the film just seemed to lurch from one set piece to the next without being totally coherent. It never got boring though, and to be honest i really wanted to see it for Federico Boido, and he didn’t disappoint! In fact he was probably the best thing in it
I was a bit dissapointed with this, as I had the soundtrack on L.P for years which is superb, and I thought this would be a great film!
That’s funny…i had the soundtrack for some time before getting round to seeing the film too! It’s funny how the OST is often better than the film! (Seven Winchesters For A Massacre springs to mind in particular!).
Well, could not agree more!
That is funny like you say, about you having the soundtrack before the film aswell!
As you are probably aware, before the soundtrack was released on C.D, this was a very hard soundtrack to find.

LOL, well i never had it before it came out on cd! Mind you…vinyl is no good for me as i don’t have a record player…and haven’t had one for about ten years. Mind you, i don’t even have a stereo to speak of…just a personal cd player[/quote]
Um…what just happened with that last post??? ???
That is strange!
Yes, I think I got rid of all my vinyl around 10 years ago.
PAT GARRET AND BILLY THE KID two disc set.
Prefer the 1988 TURNER preview cut to the film rather than the more recent cut to the film.
Blood Trail"
A truly amazing turd of a movie. Badly acted, Badly written, Badly…everything.
Just watched El Macho (aka Macho Killers) last night. A very good late spaghetti western with a George Hilton for once playing the bad guy going by the name of The Duke and having a not-quite-fitting British accent. One of the best spaghetti westerns I’ve seen in a long time. Recommended.
