A favourite of mine.

Not for a long time, one I need to re view.
Mine too (The Friends of Eddie Coyle) - Mitchum never better IMO
Inglorious Basterds
Yeah, an earlier Yates crime film.
I watched Lucio Fulciâs The City of the Living Dead (1980) over the weekend. It barely works as a coherent film, the script being a starting point for a number of incredible set pieces; the characters are so barely sketched theyâre almost not their. Itâs held together by Fulciâs sense of atmosphere and horror and some excellent special effects (the girl vomiting up her own entrails is rightly famous). Iâm not all that familiar with Fulci, but I do know I much prefered his Donât Torture a Duckling and even Four of the Apocalypse. 3/5.
SHOOTER - Another amazing Antoine Fuqua flick, imagine a mixture of RAMBO, THE HUNTED and PARALLAX VIEW. Fantastic action scenes. The brutal finale will satisfy even the hardest-to-please fans of vigilante movies too. Kept me glued to the screen from the beginning. Loved it.
i thought it was horrible - mixture of multiple movies which doesnât work at all - i disliked action scenes (except for the initial sniper scene)
only good movie directed by Fuqua iâve seen so far was Training Day
L.A. Confidential

I liked King Arthur and Shooter, but wasnât too fond of Training Day. Good actors, some good action, but a rather far-fetched story.
iâm afraid i didnât like King Farthur either, or at least it was very average -
i just looked at his imdb page - oh yeah, Replacemnet Killers with Chow Youn Fat, Tears of the Sun with Willis, all very average for me - although i shouldnt blame him only, also the screenwriters ⌠but true is except for TD i donât like how he handle action scenes
i remember being sick of King Arthur - good camera, some crossbow action, but overall it looked like movie for kids (no real violence was shown, only off camera)
maybe i should watch that directorâs cut you mentioned âŚ
oh yeah, or ⌠âMaggots? Maggots. Maggots. Maggots.â ![]()
maybe i should watch that directorâs cut you mentioned âŚ
Isnât the difference like a PG to an R for violence etc?
I picked the film up cheaply a while back but havenât seen it yet.
only scherp knows âŚ
Iâve got the Criterion DVD (shame thereâs no Blu Ray) of THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE on the way, ordered it in Barnes & Nobles half price sale last month so it was $15 (plus postage). Looking forward to watching it, never seen it before.

Seems you donât like Fuqua very much. TRAINING DAY, BROOKLYNâS FINEST, TEARS OF THE SUN, SHOOTER, all great for me. Donât mind the far-fetched plot in any of these as long as it keeps me entertained and doesnât raise big !!! while watching.
Just finished the directorâs cut of KING ARTHUR. I liked it, but I wouldnât put it on the same level with the aforementioned. People generally shout too much and the occasionally modern urban dialogue didnât fit very well Iâm afraid.
Need to watch REPLACEMENT KILLERS and BAIT now.
I absolutely loved Training Day, Denzel is fantastic in it.
Also really enjoyed Brooklynâs finest, Replacement Killers is alright and I didnât mind Shooter, havenât seen Tears Of The Sun.
But Iâd say Training Day is his pinnacle closely followed by Brooklynâs Finest.
Yep, Training Day is his best film IMO.
