Same place, same time, every week No more announcements needed, haha, plus there is a banner on the SWDb everywhere…
As for the book of the week, I was gonna put those into the show notes, but I just don’t find the time to update these, so any help is greatly appreciated and we can put this in in there
In the announcements there was information a about what to expert. But I let myself be surprised when I look.
Would it be helpful if I make a list the books per episode (and the soundtrack as well)? Will do a re-watch of the last bit of the episodes to search them. I am a bit of a nerd to insert them here at the site but if I get an explanation maybe I will be able to do that as wel.
It would certainly help, because inserting it into the site is a rather quick job for someone like me So if you were to do this anyway, or if you wanna help out by doing so, that would be great!
Once Upon a Time in Spaghetti Westerns Podcast #24 “Open Lines"
Join Jay Jennings and myself today at high noon PST for the “Once Upon a Time in Spaghetti Westerns” with podcast #24. The scheduled “Lee Van Cleef Special” has been rescheduled for next Friday November 6, as our special guest author, actor, film maker Mike Malloy is in Atlanta and tropical storm Zeta is blowing through that area of the southeast portion of the U.S. Mike messaged me via phone he has no power and is not scheduled to have any until this Sunday. Jay will be showing several of his posters and we’ll throw the chat board open to answer questions.
So join us all later, in the chat on Facebook and Youtube.

On a different note. I have been ponding some suggestions for the podcast, and rather than just email it to Tom and Jay, I thought it best to post them here for them to be discussed and probably fleshed out, because these are just some ideas that are still rather rough around the edges. Nevertheless, it would be great to hear from @Tom_B and @Spaghetti_Westerns what you think
So here are just some rough ideas for future episodes of the podcast:
main themes (which aren’t always the title songs). Yes tricky because of copyright issues but if you just play them a few seconds it might be okay considering the ratio of original material (approx 55min) to recorded material (approx 5min) per whole episode. Especially if you credit the composers and maybe provide info about which record label is currently publishing the soundtrack in question.
opening titles (both in terms of visuals of opening credits but also in terms of songs), with an info bit about rotoscope and info about the designers of these credits sequences. We do have a top 20 at the swdb
possible guest: ulrich bruckner of explosive media and author of an spaghetti western encyclopedia (was already part of the authors roundtable but maybe you can invite more like him, not just on book projects but also for an insight into the licensing business), author mike hauss, austin fisher, robert frayling of course, mike siegel, etc.
locations (there’s surely more than those already covered)
revisiting the rolling roadshow 2008 with people who were there
impact of dvds, blurays and the internet on spaghetti western fandom and the appreciation of the genre
from germany to italy: how german westerns and german money kicked of the spaghetti western
spaghetti westerns in francos spain > we spend and hour talking about why, and how, spaghetti westerns were made mostly in spain
talk about the stunts, action and props in spaghetti westerns, clothes, guns, FX tech, etc.
German titles, the most ridiculous ones (we could have lots of laughs when i literally translate those on the air)
karl may westerns (winnetou etc)
poster artwork types, formats, styles and popular poster artists
politics of the SW; guest austin fisher; or even more specific> revoution western like tepepa etc.
the spaghetti western database (shameless plug for me as a special guest)
As I said, somewehat rough early ideas but just to get the discusion going…
I’m very curious to know what version of Let’s Go and Kill Sartana that they’ve seen and where to get it. When it comes to these real rarities it’s important to mention stuff like that - not just “I think I’ve seen it, maybe on Youtube, or maybe I have it”
I guess those posters are all rare and that but they’re not the important thing here. Specific versions - mentioned in terms of VHS releases, TV-versions, 16 or 8 mm prints etc is what I consider to be interesting information here. Or what do you guys say?
I am listening to some older podcasts at the moment. Information about movies is never really given, only in the weekly news section.
But you can leave a message on YouTube/ Facebook. I am sure Tom or Jay will answer.
How odd, I thought every podcast I’ve watched so far has been carefully detailed and dedicated to all things SW. For two hours it’s nothing but non-stop info about SW movies, actors, directors, locations, the obscure, the unknown, they dig into it all. Tom does review capsules on every film. The Weekly News is just the icing on the cake. Viva la podcast!
Indeed, the podcasts are very entertaining and informative.
I like them a lot, watched the shows now once or twice. But for information about where to get a discussed movie is not given during the podcast. Someti mes it is mentioned that it is available on DVD or Blu, or watchable on youtube in whatever shape.
In the weekly news additional information is given about new items, where to get it. Information that is also generally available in the SWDB.
I have not seen yet the show ElDavido is talking about. But if I am correct this show is about hard to find movies so I can imagine that it is annoying that they are talking about interesting stuff that is not commonly available without mentioning where / how they have seen it.
With the help of the great @LooneyElmerFudd the SWDb now proudly offers quite extensive shownotes for all 2020 episodes of this great podcast. We welcome corrections and additions, as we continue to do what we can to offer helpful links and footnotes to each episode of the show. Viva el podcast!
