Navajo Joe (MGM Region 1) soon

Hey y’all…long time cowpoke, first time talker here. I’m out in the San Francisco area and wanted to let you know I had to go to three stores Tuesday to find Navajo Joe. The last store had it in the drama section, rather than the action section (where it puts all the other SW’s we can get out here).
Anyway, I had never seen it before and just watched the film last night. It was awesome. The camera work on some of the action scenes was remarkable, in my opinion. It’s right up there with Django and The Great Silence as far as Corbucci films go. Have a great day!

Hey, welcome Californio! I’m in SF. You will find that there aren’t too many of us Northern Californians on this Forum. One of the cool things is that there are fans from all over the place (especailly Europe).
Glad to see you found a store selling Navajo Joe.
Lookin’ forward to reading more of your posts.

sweet home Californeeee! welcome!

I’m about an hour away from Sacramento. Looks like we’re a growing breed here!

(Still awaiting for my copy of JOE to arrive, BTW)

I cropped away the black bars. Remember the Stingray disc is interlaced and non-anamorphic. 8)
But I hope this widescreen print has the correct audio. What I mean by that is on the Fullscreen VHS copy, (In the opening scene) The Indian-howling heard at the beginning of Morricone’s title track is extended by about 5 seconds. Perfectly matching the opening guitar-lick to the main title of the movie.

But on the widescreen print that I saw on Turner Classic Movies, the music is not extended and it doesn’t synch up with the kick of the main title. I sure hope this error was corrected for this disc.
Sad to report that this error was not corrected for the MGM region 1 disc, amigo.
I noticed it right off. Disappointing.
Otherwise, this is a great release!

No. We are waiting for the Koch Media release

it will have English audio (the koch release)

we don’t have a single DVD review yet. to those who have the DVD already, can somebody write up a review? and maybe confirm if it is uncut and all that

Welcome to you , Laydback. Where do you live in relation to Sacto?

I have not purchased the new Navajo Joe yet but I probably will. I have been kinda “over-invested” in Navajo Joe. I have a pretty much unwatchable version fron Trash Palace (from about 4 years ago), A crappy pan n’ scan version that came as part of a cheap 4 disc boxed set, & the Stingray version (recently acquired about 3 months ago). I love Koch Media so if/when they put out a version of Joe I will vote with my dollars and buy that too. I also have the soundtrack on CD. I have a color mini-poster of Nicoletta Machiavelli (from a production still from the movie) on my office wall.
My motto oughta be “you can never have enough Joe”.

well you can actually never have enough Joe…

Navajo Joe…Navajo Joe…oooh…Navajo Joe…Navajo Joe

The best of all…the best of all…oooh…Navajo Joe…Navajo Joe

Just south of Chico.

Sunovabeeyitch.

Looks like I’ll have to hold on to my ol’ VHS dub for that incoveniance.

so the audio doesn’t match up? damn. I hope Koch fixes that for their release

just watched the DVD. the picture is really very nice despite the strong edge haloes. it is definitely finally a quality dvd that lives up to the movie. too bad about the lack of extras on this one… but still recommended purchase

voila, since nobody else felt the urge to write one, I did. :stuck_out_tongue:

Good review Seb. I’m expecting my copy of the film any day now and am looking forward to it immensely. Even though this has never been my favourite Corbucci it’s still been long overdue for a release.

I have just been comparing the new Navajo Joe region 1 MGM disc to the Japanese Stingray Navajo Joe disc.

You have to have the sound considerably higher on the U.S disc, and in my opinion the english dub soundtrack sounds better on the Japanese disc.

Some daylight scenes on the U.S disc are very dark when compared to the Japanese disc.

I could have a faulty U.S disc perhaps, but I doubt it, as the dark elements and sound are obviously quite different things.

I prefer the Japanese disc myself.
