Kebab Westerns (Turkish Western Films)

Zagor kara belahttp://www.spaghetti-western.net/index.php/Zagor_kara_bela
-I watched this turkish western based on italian comic book series. The main characters look like they should but the plot is very basic with indians, soldiers and bandits and reminded me of Karl May westerns. I’ve read only few episodes of Zagor comics but based on those I’d imagine they could come up with something more interesting as the comics had weird, almost supernatural qualities. The sidekick Chico is annoying as he is in the comics and most of the film’s running time is spent with his gags and jokes. The music isn’t recycled from sw’s this time.

Wow, didn’t know thee was a movie about Zagor! Need to see this.

Zagor kara korsani’n hazinelerihttp://www.spaghetti-western.net/index.php/Zagor_kara_korsan’in_hazineleri
-Second Zagor film is a bit crazier than the first one (though I’m not quite sure which one came first since they were released same year). Zagor fights against pirates and tries to track crazy treasure seeking man to testify in the court. And of course Chico makes things more difficult and is constantly gabbling about his hunger etc. This time there’s some recycled music from sw’s, Day of Anger theme plays during the credits.

Turkish releases might be difficult to get but at least there is dvd releases for both Zagor films and they come with english subtitles.

Which reminds me… this dvd info is still missing from the database.

Just watched this turkish western. Interesting film because the main villain is Killing aka Satanik, anti-hero from italian photonovel series. It’s quite violent film and has crazy shoot out scenes in the end. First in the farm and then in the gravel pit. Guys keep jumping, rolling and shooting. Funny stuff. Music is mainly recycled from the Fistful of Dollars.

^^^^^^^^^^^ Without knowing anything else about it beyond that poster, it already looks brilliant.

Killing as villain in a western? Haha, priceless!

In Turkey - where he was known as Kilink - there were several unauthorized films at that time.

Good news:

Big chance these will see dvd releases by Aztek Productions:

Çeko
Ringo vs Gestapo

I watched Daglarin Oglu today from youtube, bad quality and no subs but the film is good. It’s set in Turkey but it has all the elements of westerns which ain’t no surprise because it’s a remake of Brando’s One-eyed Jacks.

I added this turkish western to the database. I’m watching it right now, too bad the quality is terrible.

And one more Turk western added:

Quite a boring one, not even Güney’s charisma could save this one.

Interesting way of holding a cigarette

Hello. I am wanting to start exploring Turkish westerns as I am a fan of “Turkish trash cinema”; where would be the best place for me to start? What are some of the better ones I should start with?

My favorites are Dag Kurdu, Ölmek var dönmek yok and Sehvet. Then there’s Yilmaz Güney’s “anatolian westerns” which are the masterpieces of the turkish cinema, Agit and Ac Kurtlar.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to start with Kebab westerns? I’ve seen stuff like Kilink, Turkish Star Wars, Tarkan vs the Vikings etc and want to check out some Kebab westerns now.

Are these easy to find on DVD or VCD?

Only few turkish western are released on dvd as far as I know, I have both Zagor films (with english subtitles), Onar Films released Korkusuz Kaptain Swing (I don’t like the film so I haven’t looked for it), some Güney films have been released too. I got most of my films from trade or download. If you can find a turkish web store that delivers abroad you could find some of these.

Added one more turkish western that was still missing from database:

This was actually one of the most entertaining turkish westerns I’ve seen. Main plot is taken apparently from Massacre Time but there’s more crazy characters thrown in, like a drunk photographer (with concealed machine gun in his camera) and fake priest (with concealed knife in his cross). Main villain is totally insane whip wielding pervert. Too bad that the version I saw is so chopped that it’s difficult to follow at times, even the ending seems to be missing unless the abrupt ending is supposed to be some sort of joke.

I read a book on the Crimean War a couple weeks ago and the accompanying photos of the battle location from the time of actual battle looked like the barrenness of some SW locales. Sure enough, a few hundred miles away, Turkey, who fought in the war, has KWs. Any 60/70s Ukranian/Russian/USSR SWs or pre-annexation Crimean SWs :grimacing:?
