You can’t beat a bit of classic ‘Hammer Horror’…Fangs for sharing that. ![]()
Can’t go wrong with some Hammer Horror, they raised the bar for the genre. Love Meat Loaf (RIP), I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That) was one of the first songs I fell in love with as a kid.
Just bought 4 second-hand BD’s for £1.63…a bit expensive in my opinion. ![]()

Horror and comedy.
Looking forward to ‘Waxwork’…never seen it…

And, finally, the ultimate in BBC comedy at its best…‘The complete Blackadder’.
The last episode of ‘Blackadder Goes Forth’ features, without doubt, the most unbelievably poignant ‘comedy’ ending of all time… it still gets to me.
Worth watching if you have never seen it…laughs and tears at the same time.
The Trenches…1914-18.
Blackadder: “Who would have noticed another madman around here…”

The wife and I went to visit my mother yesterday and an old episode of Rawhide came on TV with Peter Lorre in it. This led to a discussion about the The Maltese Falcon immediately followed by a discussion about The Comedy of Terrors which my mother has never seen. I am supposed to take my copy to her next time I visit. A very fun dark comedy.
Some recent acquisitions:
A continuation of my Hammer upgrades.
The final piece of the Onetti Brothers “Giallo Trilogy”.
Another upgrade to Blu-ray of the Mario Bava classic
Some new Paul Naschy
One of the last of the Wild East releases I need. I got it for $5.00 because the guy is getting The Iron Perfect Blu-ray. I’ll probably get that one as well but the completist in me is forcing me to complete the Wild East collection. ![]()
And, finally, a movie I had never even heard of until I found it at a yard sale Saturday for 50 cents. All the “awards” and the fact that it is “Banned in Over 4 Countries!” intrigued me so I did a search for it online and became even more intrigued. Supposedly, the ultimate horror-comedy-indie-sleaze film. For the price, I thought I would give it a shot.
The Wild East release with ‘Mafia’ aka '‘Il Giorno della Civetta’ ( The Day of the Owl ) is a great flick … one to definitely check out if you haven’t seen it before - ‘The Iron Prefect’ is pretty good also.
Paul Naschy can go straight in the bin ! LOL
… to each their own, but OMG I find him unbelievably inept … what is the appeal ?
I think for me personally, the appeal of Naschy comes from my childhood. I was such a huge fan of the old Universal monsters. We had a local channel that showed old Universal movies on Saturday night and I used to escape upstairs to my bedroom and watch them on the 14 inch black and white TV my aunt bought me. They were on well past my bedtime so I would sit in the dark with the volume barely audible just hoping my parents wouldn’t discover me. A little later I checked out a book about monster movies at the local library because of the amount of information it contained about on the Universal films and it was there I first discovered Lon Chaney. I remember being in awe reading about how he used fish hooks in his nose to give his face the skeletal appearance in Phantom of the Opera. Eventually, our PBS channel started showing old silent movies and I was finally able to see the Phantom as well as The Hunchback of Notre Dame and some others. I have spent the last 40 something years hoping that eventually they find a copy of the lost London After Midnight somewhere.
I think what I like about Naschy is that he seemed to have the same love for those old films and attempted to bring them back to life in a new light. They don’t even come close to approaching the quality of those old films but I appreciate his effort nonetheless and do find them enjoyable for what there are.
Plus, he always managed to entice some attractive ladies for his films, including the star of this one, Caroline Munro. ![]()
Guy looks like a wolf. He is perfect for werewolf movies. Plus, he is kinda hot. I am serious.
LOL … Ok, if you say so! ![]()
@LankyGringo … I was genuinely curious, rather than putting down someone else’s interest … needless to say, I’ve only watched a small handful of his films, and what comes across is an untalented, unattractive, meglomaniac at work - I realize he’s a kind of one man band in these productions, writing, directing, casting himself in leading roles etc … but I find his presence beyond ridiculous, which makes the films I’ve seen even worse than Jess Franco in some cases.
Thanks for your reply … happy viewing ![]()
No worries. That is exactly the way I took it.
Finally upgrading to 4K! My poor bank account sure has taken a beating today
Thankfully I used a 20% off code with these on HMV so I got a sizeable chunk of money off
:
Love me some Edmund Blackadder
have the release they did here in the States myself, lots of good extras too. Blackadder II and Blackadder the Third are my favorites, you can’t go wrong with Hugh Laurie as the dimwitted Prince Regent.
Decided to pick this up as it was only £12 from HMV. Never seen this before. What have I gotten myself into?
