I Just Bought … (Non-SW Shopping Diary)

Just ordered these BD from ‘Amazon UK’.

I’m so out of touch with current releases I had no idea another Jurassic flick had been released … and I do enjoy these dinosaur movies, though the reviews on IMDB for this latest are scathing !
Usually I find any modern release, especially a blockbuster, needs to have an inflated score of above 7.5 to make it worth looking at … poor old Jurassic World 3 is at a very dodgy 5.6 … can it really be that bad ?

Yep. Saw it at the cinema last year. A pile of crap.

Bought the first 2 ITLOD films, and will probably nab 3 & 4 (and Righting Wrongs!) at some point. I love the look of 80s HK in these films; especially the fashion. I just wish the first had focused less on the Lucky Stars kinda comedy, and more on Michelle and Cynthia being awesome. It’s also a shame the 2nd one doesn’t have Rothrock… although it does have Michael Wong being well… Michael Wong

Also grabbed this. I’m not really into Anime anymore but I do love the sleazy Kawajiri OVAs from that era.

Got a nice amount of spending money from my Birthday in March, so I finally decided to splurge a little: first three items off the “to buy” list

The Peplums are making a comeback from the looks of things as Steve Reeves has been getting some Blu Ray lovr. Richard Harrison in a pirate movie sounds like loads of fun. Couldn’t pass up some weird cinema from France, both stories look interesting.

Nice pick-ups. The d’Anna film is quite enjoyable in an off beat way.

Picked this up today for £1 … still in it’s shrink wrap/cellophane

I don’t have a 4k player or TV … but I couldn’t not buy it at this price!

Where on earth did you find that for a quid?

One of the local charity shops … there are quite a few in the area which I visit often - mostly you’ll find routine stuff, but every once in a while there’s a surprise … I can’t understand why someone would spend the money on this type of release and effectively bin it (all in a good cause of course)

Recently I also found 4K versions of ‘Independence Day’, and ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ … so eventually when prices drop (drastically) as they always seem to, I’ll get geared up with the TV and 4K player … but I’m not in such a big hurry. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Wow, that is one heck of a deal @aldo, and for an official 4K release too!! :grinning: The next closest I saw was a guy on YouTube from the UK who got a barebones 4K of The Incredibles, (he said they were one of the many gift promotions people got when they bought 4K players and TVs) at some small store for the same price.

I guess their label maker missed the 0 after it.

Value is all relative of course, and to the staff of these shops it’s just another CD/DVD/BD … I don’t want to sound condescending, but mostly they don’t have a clue nor do they care about film as I do … and that’s perfectly ok - I can’t get excited about designer labels or trainers.

40 years ago I bought my first retail VHS, a Roxy Music concert which cost over £30 … that now sounds crazy to me … especially as I watched it only once because I wouldn’t own a VHS player of my own for another 8 or 9 years.

That’s why personally I 'm not getting all gaga over current technology … everything commonly used today will be obsolete in a couple of years, or no longer in style … so in regards to ‘Pulp Fiction’ on 4K … it’s only another format … but if it were a 35mm print then I’d be excited.

So, let me get this straight. Forty years ago, just “Out of the Blue”, you decided to buy a Roxy Music concert VHS even though you didn’t own a player. Why? Did they “Re-Make/Re-Model” some of their hits or was it just for “The Thrill of It All”? “More Than This” even, these were all songs you could have heard on the radio for free…”(Oh Yeah) On the Radio”! How did you even come across it? Was it a “Chance Meeting” in a video store and as soon as you saw it you thought, “All I Want is You”? Did you happily “Dance Away” after buying it, content in the fact that you had done something “For Your Pleasure”? But then, you watched it once, looked down at it, and said, I’m “Over You” as you realized that every time you watched it afterward that there would be nothing new…just the “Same Old Scene”(s). That is one “Bitter Sweet” tale. I do hope you held onto it though and it didn’t end up in the “Trash”.

Checked another item off the list

Haven’t got too many War films in my collection, but this one looked too interesting to pass up, and what a cast to boot. And directed by Umberto Lenzi, one of my favorites.

Nice cast.

Your collection must be sprawling by now!
