Horror Films

sarcasm

I guess you will say I did

The fact is I always thought it was shamelessly OVER-rated

:-\

The Evil Dead is effective enough for this kind of stuff, but I have become a little tired of the film now. Much prefer some of the gruesome horrors coming out of France in recent times like Martyrs and Inside.

Hi everyone! I totally came into this conversation late but it’s so awesome to see other horror (and more specifically giallo) fans. I’m a big fan of the genre. The Argento movies are great but I also love THE CASE OF THE SCORPION’S TAIL, DEATH LAID AND EGG, and WHO SAW HER DIE?

I’m working on mixing the SW with the giallo in my book FISTFUL OF FEET which Eraserhead Press is publishing later this year. It’ll be great for SW fans but extremely weird, too.

Another horror movie that is underrated is MESSIAH OF EVIL which is only available right now as a pan and scan public domain copy. I think Code Red is supposed to be releasing a nice print of it soon. I can’t wait.

And I also like slashers… 1980s is my favorite decade for those.

This is my second post but nice to meet you all!

Gialli are awsome! My favorite genre.

As many of you will know as i have mentioned many times i am a great horror film buff, my favourite genre of all time and will always be, the best, most daring genre ever!i like films in the genre from the silent days to up to present day although not a great fan of all the remakes. am also a member of a great horror forum site horrormovies ca under the name of Wolfman 1959.

I like horror too, although the western will always be my favourite genre

So obviously you are the expert here, so give us a list of favourite movies (TOP 10, why not) and a title (or a short list) you don’t like, to start a little discussion

I’ll give you some titles I LIKE/DISLIKE:

Like:

Classic: Frankenstein - Medium Classic: Scars of Dracula - Modern: Alien - Contemporary: Eden Lake

Don’t Like:

The shining, Martyrs

Already told you I didn’t like Evil Dead

Already told you I didn’t like Evil Dead
ok sherp i’ll keep this as brief as i can i am a great fan of George Romero as a director, and my favourite horror actor of all time is Boris Karloff. i also like Mario Bava films am not a fan of Fulci only film i like of his is ā€œZombie Flesheatersā€ the rest very poor, poor or over rated, i much prefer his SW’s and his italian crime film " The Smuggler". I’m not a great Argento fan ethier but he has done some good films E.G Tenebrae, Suspiria, Opera and some others, i haven’t watched any Jungle cannibal films because i refuse to because of the real life animal cruelty but that is my opinon and have nothing against anybody that likes them, but apart from that i’m game for pretty much anything else.
my all time top 10 is

1.DAWN OF THE DEAD (original)(1978)
2. DAY OF THE DEAD (original)(1985)
3.SALEM’S LOT (1979)
4. PET SEMETARY (1989)
5. EVIL DEAD (1982)
6. THE EXORCIST (1973)
7.BLACK SABBATH (1963)
8. THE HAUNTING (1963)
9.AN AMERCIAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (1981)
10. THE BODY SNATCHER ( 1945)

I love Zombie, vampire, werewolf and haunted house movies best but like pretty much all kinds of horror from all decades but that above is my favourite 10 so far could have made it a top 50!

the worst 10 so far are in no particular order ( they are all awful) most of them you probably haven’t heard of and if i were you i’d keep it that way!

Boarding House
Manos, The Hands of Fate
Voodoo Black Exorcist
Jesse James Meets Frankensteins Daughter
Track Of The Moonbeast
Zombie Flesheaters 3
The Reptile
The Man Who Could Cheat Death
Manhattan Baby
Lycanthrope

don’t worry Spaghetti Westerns are in my Top 5 film Genres!

I haven’t seen any of your worst ever list, so I must have a good taste!

I like all of the titles on the BEST list, except for (as said) N° 5 (but I haven’t seen it for a while, mybe I should give it a new chance).
And I haven’t seen 7. Black Sabbath
A shame, I know. I’ll try to fill this lacuna in my knowledge asap

We should try to develop this thread the way we did with the Kung Fu thread
We have an expert and there are quite a few people around who like the genre, so it should be a bit more cosy and interesting around here

QUESTION: In my videoshop they have a horror western called (if i’m right) The Burrowers

Anybody seen it?

Some of my favorites…
Haunted Palace
Halloween
The Shining
Night Of The Living Dead (1968)
Kill Baby Kill
City Of The Dead (Horror Hotel)
The Omen
Premature Burial
Black Sunday
The Fog
Evil Dead II
Nightmare On Elm Street
Friday The 13th
Black Sabbath

Haven’t seen The Burrowers

Is Black Sunday a horror movie?

Thought it was a thriller about a terrorist plan on Super Sunday
Nightmare on Elm Street is among my favs too, wonderful flick, even the ridiculous ending is unforgettable

Black Sunday is the name of the Bava Horror film aswell as the John Frankenheimer thriller from the 70’s.

aka Mask Of Satan 1960 (should have explained better)

Well, the movie is about a killer who strikes those who sleep. Pretty unbelievable premise to start off with. Scared me when I was little.

Anybody seen it?
you have to see Black Sabbath sherp it’s my favourite Bava film and Karloff is awesome in it. I have seen the Burrowers and have it in my collection it’s ok but could have been much better in my opinon. the western elements work better than the horror ones.
Black Sunday is the name of the Bava Horror film aswell as the John Frankenheimer thriller from the 70’s.
you are correct ENNIO but although it is a Bava film and it is a horror classic some people confuse it with the one in my top 10 " Black Sabbath" which is a horror anthology and only available in Italian with English Subtitles and on the Bava boxset volume 1 is a very nice print.

sherp, you’ve seen ā€œThe Body snatcherā€ and you liked it? what did you think of Karloff’s performance in that i thought it was his best performance and worthy of an oscar.

Haven’t seen The Burrowers
some good choices there i…i idiot i ve seen them all on your list. and The omen ( original) is excellent and just missed being in my top 10, the only one i don’t rate is Horror Hotel but it’s not a bad film.

I’ll rent it and sure will let you know what I make of it

I got me a copy of The Boston Strangler (yes, he was an Idiot, but not the one from Boston we’re all thinking of now) from the local library; it popped up in the ā€œscreenshot threadā€ a few days ago, and this made me want to see it again. The copy is full of scratches, so I hope it’ll work.

The Body Snatcher: yes I saw it, quite some time ago, but I still remeber I liked it very much. I like most of Karloff’s work. I mentioned Frankenstein as one of my favourite movies: some say it’s more pathetic than frightning, but to me the real horror is caused by the emotional ties we instinctively develop with this ā€˜monster’. I’ve seen the film maybe five or six times, and it still works, I still feel those emotions

:frowning:

He also might not have been the killer. Recent studies may have disproved that.

@ Body Snatcher. Good one. Great Karloff performance, maybe his best. I prefer Flesh & The Fiends.

Black Sabbath is very good, as is Mask of Death. I’d recommend both but my favourite Bava Gothic Horror would be Kill Baby Kill. You can’t go wrong with any of them though.
