[Germany] Plaion Pictures (Koch Media - Koch Films)

Well I’ve already stated my opinion on such matters and won’t state it again cos most people don’t seem to care.

However I will say that, although I am very appreciative of getting any English options at all, Koch would make a lot more money out of me if they could just better figure out which SWs merit English subs and which SWs merit English audio.

I don’t think it’s about merit, it’s about price. And the handfull of DVDs they export out of Germany surely won’t cover licensing costs for English language tracks. At least that’s my assumption. With the United Artists titles I’m guessing they come with the package, with the others, it might be pure luck or coincidence. In Germany it’s not like in the US where lots of stuff is just public domain, more things are tied to costs and ownership/copyrights.
It’s been known for a long long time that even the hidden English subtitles are merely a friendly gesture towards the international fans. If it wasn’t for Bruckner and his network of Spaghetti Fans all over, there would probably no English subtitles at all, it wouldn’t make much sense from an economic standpoint

The Koch releases could theoretically have Italian and English audio, and German subs

But then they would probably be impossible to sell in German speaking countries?

Yeah, nearly impossible. The usual german audience will not accept films without a german dub. They are used to dub versions and only a small number is willing to buy films without a dub.

Apparently this means, Koch is not intending to release SWs without an existing dub. So no chance for El puro, John the Bastard, Cost of Dying.

But don´t forget, that there are also some releases, that were dubbed for TV as “Hasse deinen Nächsten” (Hate your Neighbor/Odia il prossimo tuo), that will be released by Koch Media, or like “Dakota - Nur der Colt war sein Gesetz” (Brother Outlaw/Rimase uno solo e fu la morte per tutti!), a release without a german dub before the DVD release by Simpel (or is ist X-Rated) - so still many titles are possible to be released…

Although I’m going to buy them anyway I agree. Titles like Return of Ringo and Silver Saddle with no major English-speaking stars would have been better off with English subs instead of the dub.

Yeah the kids annoying english voice in Silver Saddle, I quite like the english audio other than that though, in the Ringo films too.

My English is not good so that I follow better a movie with subtitles. I like to watch Italo westerns with rough Italian accent in spite of my very limited knowledge of Italian language. Besides, last three discs include both English audio and English subtitles. And I have thought they would continue with that, che pecato.

That’s one of the biggest reasons I tend to prefer the Italian dubs… The voices in the English dubs always sound so cheesy… and in the westerns its an annoying kind of cheesy. With horror/slasher/giallo stuff its always kind of flat, which makes it hilarious for me…

Will there be a DVD review of Silver Saddle? ???

uhm… it’s out, aren’t you following the frontpage ? :frowning:

I do, but I didn’t see it first.

cough very sure the koch disc of navajo joe will be a must-buy :stuck_out_tongue:

Rocco - Ich leg dich um (L’ultimo Killer)
Schneller als 1000 Colts (Thompson 1880)

That makes 11 with the 3 June releases.

By far the best of these 8 new titles is Guiseppe Vari’s The Last Killer, which I have just re-watched, and which is an outstanding little gem.

That will be the third German release of Il venditore di morte then… Already out in a cheap fullscreen version and a decent version from X-Rated. That is a bit surprising.

Also Koch Media seems to be beginning to release a lot of what is already out by Wild East making one perhaps thinking twice before getting the newest Wild East-release in the future when a superior version can be just around the corner from Koch Media.

But very nice seeing that Koch Media has gained full speed again. Keep’em coming

Mostly all of those releases sound great. #16-18 I only have in quite poor TV quality and I haven’t got many of the others.

I’m really looking forward to June 26th!!!

The only thing is the new 18+ sticker that will spoil the pleasure…

Hmmm … now the quality of the Koch releases becomes quite problematic. Of these 8 newly announced films I’m only interested in 2. The Last Killer and Shango.

All the other films are only average. Not the stuff I intend to watch again.
Sheeet. Didn’t they get my wish list, which I haven’t sent them?

IMO #16 is a truely great one and I really liked #18 (Montefiori is one of my faves anf Horst Frank is always a safe bet).

I am particularly looking forward to the “L’Ultimo Killer” with our great actor late Dragomir Bojanic Gidra. So I ask the right person about it and he said the the release will have featurette with main actor George Eastman.

That sounds cool.
