Wild East Productions

How do you mean the R2 UK MGM is still available at amazon.co.uk and others ?

Be interesting to see which is the better quality out of the U.K MGM and the Wild East one.

yeah, can Sundance do some screenshot comparisons?

I owned the MGM disc until I traded it away recently. It was shit. The picture quality and widescreen picture was great of course, much better than the public domain crap, but the menu screen was crap and there was no special features, not even a trailer. MGM doesn’t treat their spaghetti western releases with due respect.

well that one it didnt. but the leones got relatively good treatment

Are these things really important?

I don’t care for the menu, the shorter the better. And for the most films I don’t need any bonus (most of the bonus is only a waste of time anyway). And most of these old trailers are also crap, but ok sometimes something to laugh.

If a film “only” contains good picture quality in the correct aspect ratio and is uncut I’m happy and don’t ask for more.

But I never bought DRAH anyway.

I agree about that…Why you dont have this one in your collection I dont get

How do you mean the R2 UK MGM is still available at amazon.co.uk<

Yes, DRAH is available cheap at amazon.uk…You missed out on a long argument, but for some reason there are people here who are putting off buying region free DVD players…
Oh yeah, lets see the screenshot comparison! I’m thinking of buying the WE dvd just because.

Not a fan of this one and therefore never tried hard to get it, and now it is oop. But maybe still cheap at amazon marketplace

Yes i missed that, perks/disadvantage of being new here  Strange though as region-free DVD players are readily available or can be made region-free quiet easily for the most known brands.

I must be way ahead of the times as i even have a region-free BD player
I simply don’t want to be limited by those regions and it’s at least one thing i don’t have to think about when hunting for DVD’s/BD’s, all i need to know if they are English friendly and where can they be bought for the best price.

The way I will go when I purchase one. Had a region free dvd player since 1992, and still use it more or less each day.

If the Wild East DVD of Death Rides a Horse is comparable in picture quality to the MGM region 2 U.K. disc, I’ll be satisfied.

I don’t actually own a Wild East DVD, but I see about twenty titles I’d like to buy.
How is their product, generally?
Do they offer professional-quality transfers?
Widescreen, anamorphic, uncut?
What about language?
Is there an English option with an Italian language option and optional subtitles?
What exactly does one get when one buys a Wild East DVD ?

Got this in the mail today!! I think this is the best quality version of the film I’ve ever seen. It looks better than the XXX dvd imo. Been waiting for this and let me tell you I’m 200% sastisfied. Great job WE, you’ve done this gringo proud. :D
I don’t know what the XXX DVD is, but my standard referent is the MGM region 2 from the U.K.
That’s probably what most people here are acquainted with.
How does the Wild East DVD compare to that?

Richard

Reading the back files, I came across this:
I used to be very high on Wild East. But the more I think about it now, the more I think WE is just a hole in the wall company. Take Day of Anger for instance. Charging 30 dollars is criminal. And the mistake they made on Sartana and Gentlemen killer, inexcusable. A guy I know on facebook said that he when he wanted to get a refund for Sartana (he has a normal TV and couldn’t adjust is player to 16:9), they agreed, and he sent it back with confirmation. than they proceeded to ignore his emails. They pretty much stole 40 bucks from him. He also said that he had to return Day of Anger 3 times because the discs came badly scratched.

No, seriously Wild East, I appreciate what they are doing, but they seriously lag behind Blue underground, anchor bay, and many of the european companys like Koch when it comes to customer service, quality, and value for the dollar.

I’ve bought a number of their products, some are good, some are not so good. But they are all overpriced in my opinion., considering that Blue underground sells there region 0 discs for only 11.95, and that includes alot of special features too, and many other companys like MGM and Koch provide much better value. And the fact that many of their productrs are “out of print” says alot about them too. I’m tired of their limited edition BS. Are they truly commited? I’ve always complained about how MGM put in zero effort with their sabata DVD’s. But at least they are CHEAP!!! At 12.95, you get what you pay for. WIld east on the other hand charges at least 19.95 for all their releases. They even have the nerve to state “For the incredibly low price of 19.95!” for some of their releases!

In closing, I hope wildeast continues to work hard to come out with quality SW DVD’s for the north american market, but they seriously have to take a page from blue underground’s book and provide better value for their discs.
I hope the situation has changed, since the above was posted a decade ago?

Richard

Yeah I did post that a few millenia ago Lol. Wildeast is a company that gets mixed reactions from everybody. Despite my criticisms of them, I still remain a loyal buyer because, well, there’s nothing better at the moment for R1 consumers and most of their stuff is pretty good now. I have learned to lower my standards when it comes to dvd releases of SWs, because being an obscure genre, they will never get the same dvd treatment as a mainstream hollywood blockbuster.

I have a few of their DVDs and I’m happy with most of them. Mort makes a good point, SW DVDs often dont get the Koch treatment…

Would somebody post screen captures from Wild East’s Death Rides a Horse DVD ?

Richard

Well here is to WE for putting out DRAH, finally viewable in America! Thanks a bunch WE.

But hurry up and get those XXX MGM and WE screen shots up so we can see who needs to sue who for copywright purposes, because DRAH is the biggest smash hit of a sw to ever grace the screen and someone is going to be mad they lost a dollar. But I bet its not mgm because they didn’t sell enough of the “official” region two copy to actually give a shit.

Lol. Good ole’ Spuff. Nice to see they convinced you to crawl out of your cave. Welcom back.

Well I can once I receive the WE disc, but it might still take a couple of weeks for the delivery… so maybe someone else somewhere will manage to do a comparison before that.

It might look almost identical to the MGM disc though, unless the more recent Italian disc used a different (even better transfer) than the MGM one.

Ally mentioned something about the negative having been in bad shape, I believe he got his own material then and had some restoration done. I am looking forward to seeing the disc

Ain’t it so that WE is paying for the rights of the films they do release?
At least I remember reading somewhere something like this.
