Where are you from, stranger?

Born on the Isle Of Dogs and lots of family there originally. Everyone has gravitated away so not much connection there for about 4 years. Early childhood Greenwich…Plumstead. Have moved away several times and ended up back there…Isle of Dogs again in me twenties, Haringey, Hornsey, Holloway, Nunhead…happy now in Gorleston (Location, location, location) so I don’t think I will go back. Rarely get down there these days but should make the effort to see my mates. Like the idea of a pint…what parts of London are your stamping grounds?

I’m a Leyton boy, born and bred. But lived in Walthamstow and Muswell Hill for a bit and actually spent some formative teenage years in Harlow new town as part of the usual 1960s east end migration. Since coming back from a number of years overseas I’ve been living in the Chigwell, Hainault, Woodford area. Unfortunately Leyton has become decidedly manky in recent years (not that it was ever the garden of Eden if we’re honest) so I usually only go back these days for the football. Leyton Orient is a bad habit I’ve never been able to quit. It’s a bit like a hard drugs addiction. You come to quite enjoy the pain.
Isle of Dogs? Does this mean a Millwall allegiance? :o Or maybe Charlton?

Howdy Phil H,
I just remembered your a Leyton lad. Remember the Leyton Buzzards? if you were in 'em I’ve met you and had pints with you before…the guitarist borrowed my leather bike jacket once to wear onstage…highly decorated with badges, studs and lots of paint…mainly UGLY ARMY in lime green paint on the back…wonder if the Rev remembers that jacket…I was in it 24 hrs a day

I do indeed remember the Leyton Buzzards, although sadly I was not a band member so don’t recall your jacket. They had a single once called something like Saturday Night Under the Plastic Palm Trees which is not that fondly remembered by old punk fans (its not very punkish actually) but I quite liked it. Good lyrics.

I was strictly a fan not a player in the punk era but used to go to a fair amount of club gigs in those days. The Marquee usually, sometimes Dingwalls and occasionally random venues like the Triangle club Bishops Stortford where I saw Siouxsie and the Banshees. One of my favourite bands at that time was an Australian outfit called The Saints who you don’t hear much about anymore. Excellent live band back in the day.

I remember Saturday Night Under…the only one of theirs I’ve got is We Make A Noise. They weren’t that hardcore but they had a certain charm.

I was in a completely shite band called Cyril Ugly And The Towel Rails…you may note a slight amount of tounge in cheekness with the name (sixth form humour)…but hence my jacket…UGLY ARMY were our following…some people actually seemed to like us…we even got compared to the Crass…I couldn’t see it…we were Crapp more like. At this time I lived near Aylesbury, Bucks so frequented (I had to I worked there) Friars Club. Had all the top bands there whatever genre. Became big venue for punk. bands used to fly over from States for one nighters. Lots of the London punks and skins used to come up and when I went to Uni. in Bradford all the punks up there had heard of the pub I drank in (Green Man) some had even been there…also used to pop into London …marquee, dingwalls, electric ballroom, lyceum etc

Remember The Saints and remember i liked them but will have to reaquaint myself with some of their stuff.
