1. China 9, Liberty 37 (Tries to be something special, but it’s just a moment of extreme boredom :’()
3. Joe Kidd (Part Western, part Thriller, part slow and boring, no need to say more)
4. Gunfight at O.K Corral (Boring and slow 1950s western, even if it’s made with quality)
5. His Name Was Sam Walbash, But They Call Him Amen (Let’s say the best of the worst)
Dang. I will soon be watching China 9, Liberty 37, Joe Kidd and His Name Was Sam Walbash, But They Call Him Amen (splendid title). Hmm. This has kind of put me off watching them, apart from “His Name Was Sam Walbash…”. I have seen Gunfight at O.K Corral and really enjoyed it, so maybe I should just ignore this and go and view them!
There are a couple SW that I simply could not even sit through the first 30min of. The Beast (with Klaus Kinski) and This Man Can’t Die. Oh, and “Trinity and Sartana”. Haven’t seen White Commanche yet but doubt I would like it even though I like Shatner. Django Meets Sartana was also pretty bad but entertaining enough to keep me watching til the end. On a side note, I happen to like the Hill/Spencer movies including Boot Hill, Ace High (which is on my top 20), and the Trinity films.
The Hallelujah Trail… cavalry-officer, Burt Lancaster vs. womens’ anti-whiskey group’. The Undefeated… atrociously unbelievable main plot, and Roman Gabriel sub-plot. The Last Rebel… Namath SW… for fans of Strode, Elam, and Hardin only. A Big Hand For The Little Lady… self-busy poker-game foolishness.
tv-series Wagon Train… they never went the same way twice… deserts, mountains, plains… illogical.
Never forget these,
1.Rita of the west just dosen’t work, I wouldnt have viewed it at all had it not had Terrence Hill in it. The plot is has been told a 100 times, and Hill saves it from being Baldi’s worst. Outside the Forgotten Pistolero, I find Baldi isn’t too swift. I’ve never been a fan of Baldi’s work, but this is forgetable. By far, I find him to be the most overated director in Spaghetti Western history.
2.I Want him Dead is boring, and Craig Hill isn’t memorable in the lead role. Bianchini’s spaghetti’s aren’t really my cup of tea, and I could hardly sit through this.
3.In a colt’s shadow suffers from being too american, slow, and downright dull in every aspect, shame though Grimaldi does a decent job in the director’s chair.
4.Cry Onion is Nero’s low point, and its really not entertaining, funny, or whatever it tries to be.
5. Ringo the lone rider isnt all that bad, but Martell ruins it for me. Hard to believe this is directed by Rafael Romero Marchent, who i thought did a good job with Dead Men Don’t Count (1968)
Here’s a 8 films with worst ratings on my list of ca 510 sw’s
Tiger From River Kwai West of the Rio Grande Arizona Kid Seven Nuns in Kansas City Rattler Kid Pokerface They Still Call Me Amen Patience Has a Limit, We Don’t
Not sure why Rattler Kid is on the list, definitely a bad film but I don’t remember it as complete disaster as the others on my list.
I should also mention that I’ve tried to watch Kid Terror of the West twice but couldn’t watch more than 20 minutes.
Might just be the worst movie I have ever seen of any genre, let alone worst western. An absolute affront to the moviemaking process. So bad, I thought Michael Bay made it.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Bob Ford. (I found this overlong and VERY boring)!
Posse (1975) . (Slow and boring , not one of Kirk Douglas’ best roles)
God’s Gun (1976) (The misuse of Lee Van Cleef & Jack Palance , the awful music score and terrible photography).
Shane (1953) (Apologies for including it but i find Little Joey and Marion ,his mother irritating as hell and the tedious Alan Ladd is another reason for it’s inclusion here).
Paint Your Wagon (1969) .Enough said.
The majority of John Wayne’s westerns should be considered (Stagecoach excluded) ,all of the American comedy westerns & the spaghetti/euro western comedies as these make a mockery of the western genre , especially the Trinity movies , My Name Is Nobody , The Genius (1975) , Bad Man’s River and The White , The Yellow & The Black (1975).American ones such as Support Your Local Sheriff(1969) Support Your Local Gunfighter (1971) , Pardners (1956) and The Hallelujah Trail (1965) are just plain awful.
I finally watched God’s Gun for the first time and enjoyed it way more than expected. Maybe it was seeing it via the Kino Blu-Ray but I really had a good time with it despite the obvious low budget, and enjoyed Palance’s over the top performance.
