What Are You Listening to at the Moment?

‘The Seekers’.

I grew up in a house-hold where this exemplary group topped the charts in the 60’s…courtesy of the family record player…

There were so may singles that my family used to play…‘Telstar’, ’ Roses are Red’, ‘Big Bad John’…

It was also at a time when Geoff Love was dominating the ’ must-buy’ cover LP’s, with ‘Big Bond Themes’; ‘Big Horror Themes’…etc.

But, you need to be of a certain age group to remember vinyl…
.
As for ‘The Seekers’, I always loved the ‘purity’ of their songs, and I actually got to meet one of the group, Keith Potger, several years ago, and he told me how many of the song lyrics were written by Dusty Springfield’s brother, Tom, who was a devout Christian.

Keith Potger went on to produce ‘The New Seekers’, who had several hits in the 70’s.

I am the youngest of five brothers, but I remember that the record player in our house was always playing the beautiful songs that this group would produce.

I won’t say that their music was of their time, because I think it should be for all times. The lyrics are joyful, full of encouragement, and are extremely beautiful, full of sincerity, and will never age for any audience that cares to listen…

The lead singer. Judith Durham, sadly passed away a few years ago. To say that she had the voice of an angel would be an under-statement.

I love ‘The Seekers’. For myself, they have always been uplifting and inspirational.

Geoff Love cover version of ‘Live and Let Die’.

This LP was played countless times when I was a teenager…

The Charades also perform a pretty mean rendition of ‘Magnum Force’

One of Lalo Schifrin’s best soundtracks…the beginning of the main theme has always reminded me of a Harley Davidson being revved up…

Anytime I hear the soundtrack to Magnum Force, all I can think about is the Meet The Sniper video for the video game Team Fortress 2, that uses a piece from the soundtrack that is very obviously influenced by it. https://youtu.be/9NZDwZbyDus?si=XqitOwVpQI5OIl98

I’ve been a fan of TV Smith since I first heard him as lead singer of the British punk band The Adverts way back in 1977. I’ve been playing all his solo albums again and when I reached his 2008 album ‘In The Arms Of My Enemy’ the title track made me think of this place… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cyJllUXVao

Listening, with pride, to the Manx boys (‘Bee Gees’) performing the Isle of Man’s unofficial national anthem…
Not many people know that this phenomenal band were born on the ‘IOM’.

I was born and bred on the Island, and spent 47 years of my life there, through good, bad, and downright bloody ugly experiences.

This song, above all others, never fails to lift me, both in heart and spirit…

The words, the music…so beautiful. It’s a rendition that lives within me.

If you listen to the lyrics, then I’m sure that most people would like to end the day knowing they have done a good job.
Ideally, it is how anyone should ideally spend the end of their day…or days…

I hope that other folk enjoy this also…
