EAST GERMANY 1950s/1960s/1970s had some wonderful films (SWs, thrillers) etc
Also along with pleasing singer Dean Reed there was a MASTER of MELODIC SONGS :
NORBERT GEPHARDT “Es War Keine Maskenball”
This smooth, handsome, elegant Popular SINGER was a Mega Star In East Germany
I think Norbert appeared on various shows with Dean Reed. Great days and memories.

I noticed on (the no longer existing) EUROWESTERN site that there were made quite lot of westerns in East-Germany
Can’t remember ever having seen one
There usually were Indians in it (influence of the Karl May movies or were they used as victims of imperealism?)
Were these movies any good?[/quote]
I have only seen this Blutsbrüder, but it was a solid well-made film, quite good in all respects!
A little bit SW like at times, some camera-angles, some music, but mostly it had a style of it’s own I think.
Of course the story takes the side of the Indians, but the film still doesn’t feel overly propagandistic, if somebody had this impression.
Probably these films were made because of the success of the Karl May movies in West-Germany, but stylistically I don’t think they have so much in common.
The Serbian actor Gojko Mitic was the real star of these films, he made several, always playing Indian I think, he is also in this Blutsbrüder.
Many of these East-German DEFA westerns have been released on DVD, search Amazon or some other online shop if you’re interested.
