Yikes. You know I am embarrassed to admit this but I compiled this list from memory and without checking my “favorites” shelf. I left off one of my very favorites: The Forgotten Pistolero!
So I gotta amend my list. That means Black Killer falls off. BK is one of my favs for a lot of reasons (Kinsiki’s performance, abundant nakedness, Goofy soundtrack, etc) but it is not a great Spaghetti. But I’ve watched it more than 5 times and am still not tired of it.

Some people seem to have problems with a wooden actor and an ugly girl …

“Wash your sulphuric mouth with acid” etc etc etc
It is worth watching for the performances of Kinski & Frank Woolf alone, not only that it is the first snowbound SW and has a great supporting cast in Pistill,Brega & Vonetta McGee.
Trintignant is superb in the role as Silence.

I was, in a sense, playing the devil’s advocate
One of SD’s strong opinions was that Trintignant (and not Steffen) was a stiff, wooden actor and that Vonetta Mcgee was ugly
Or something like that, I forgot what he used to say exactly on the film
I always thought the cast of Great Silence was top notch…
Nice to see the ghost of SD lives on and on and on - he got want he wished for - he’s immortal now.

I saw The Great Silence for the first time ever. I was amazed at the quality of character - even though the character is a mute, sure Corbucci is a bit sloppy with his directing, but he’s just a great storyteller. I fell in love with this flick overnight. I really loved the Rio Bravo homage, it was bloody brilliant.
