Vote for our official bottom-20

you probably missed the lecture about SD for those, fortunate or unfortunate, who never spoke to the man …(as myself)

Just had the unfortunate displeasure of watching Some Dollars For Django w/ Anthony Steffen. Frank Wolff was good as always but holy shit. This movie was BAD. Probably the worst Spaghetti I’ve ever seen. I’ve only seen 3 Steffen westerns but I thought he was awful in almost all of them (he was good in W Django!) I don’t really have a bottom 20 but if I did, this would be up there.

From worst to somewhat less bad:

Cipolla Colt (1975) many like this film, but its humor does not translate for most American audiences
Bad Man’s River (1971) one of the worst comedies I have ever seen. again, some like it
Finders Killers (1971) absolutely dismal, amatuerish
Executioner of God (1973) absolutely dismal, amatuerish
Three Bullets… for a Long Gun (1971) absolutely dismal, amatuerish

Fight for Gold (1973) I like the Winnetou movies, but Reinl was scraping the bottom of the Jack London barrel here
Beyond the Frontiers of Hate (1972)absolutely dismal, amatuerish
Giù la testa… hombre (1971) Findani’s worst, I think. and I enjoy Findani for what he is
Blood River (1974) absolutely dismal, amatuerish
Return of Shanghai Joe (1975) absolutely dismal, amatuerish, such a disappointment!

Seven Savage Men (1975) absolutely dismal, amatuerish
The Last Traitor (1971) absolutely dismal, amatuerish
God’s Gun (1976) the sad decline of LV Cleef
White Commanche (1968) William Shatner will spend sometime in Purgatory for this
Buffalo Bill, Hero of the Far West (1965) worst of the Italian Winneotu knock-offs

A Man Called Amen (1973) another one of the worst of the spawn of Trinity
Lola Colt (1967) terrible
You’re Jinxed, Friend You’ve Met Sacramento (1972) another one of the worst of the spawn of Trinity
Yellow Hair and the Fortress of Gold (1984) awful Indiana Jones rip-off
Whiskey and Ghosts (1976) another one of the worst of the spawn of Trinity. by Marghareti!
I haven’t delved too much into the bad spaghettis yet. I’ve got a few that I’ve not had the courage to watch yet, but will leave them until I have nothing better to watch or I feel like a laugh.
This list will probably change once I’ve watched them & after re-watching most of the spaghettis that I’ve only watched once.

My current worst 10 list is:

1 - Vengeance Trail
2 - Bad Man’s River
3 - Any Gun Can Play
4 - A Bullet For Sandoval
5 - Taste Of Killing
6 - Return Of Sabata
7 - God Forgives: His Life Is Mine
8 - One Silver Dollar
9 - Johnny Oro

8. A reason to live, a reason to die
9. Tedeum
10. A man called Apocalypse Joe

Old List

  1. Bounty Hunter in Trinity (stealing one third of your movie from another movie, and a bad one at that)
  2. El Puro (already well documented why I don’t like this film)
  3. Boot Hill
  4. Troublemakers
  5. Return of Sabata
  6. A minute to pray a second to die
    (gets worse with each viewing)

New List:

  1. El Puro

  5. Boot Hill
  6. Sartana in the Valley of Death

  14. The Taste of Vengeance
  15. Red Blood Yellow Gold
  16. Return of Sabata
  17. Adios Sabata
  18. Don’t Wait Django Shoot
  19. Dead Men Ride
  20. Nest of Vipers
Wow. Wouldn’t include most of the films on these lists. It is interesting that the Worst List might be more divisive than the best list. But then, judging the worst is probably harder. Most people see the best films based on recommendations, but few stick out through enough average, mediocre, and terrible films to really judge the worst of the bad.

Additionally, there is the problem of distinguishing between films you didn’t like and those that are really remarkably terrible.

For my money, none of these films even come close to the bottom 50 (not even bottom 100). I think they are movies which failed to meet expectations more than the worst of the worst:

14.his life is mine
11.holy ghost(garko)
10.execution
9.return of sabata
8.trinity is still my name
7.el cisco
6.four of the apocalypse
I can say about 13 really bad movies:

  1. Professionisti per un massacro (it’s not the worst crap but its most annoying sw imo)
  2. Ritorno di Shanghai Joe
  3. Ritorno di Clint Solitario
  4. Ringo del Nebraska
  5. Quel maledetto giorno d’inverno… Django e Sartana all’ultimo
  6. Black Killer
  7. Kid Vengeance
  8. Vendetta è un piatto che si serve freddo
  9. Clint el Solitario
  10. Nato per uccidere
  11. Per una bara piena di dollari
  12. Savage Guns
  13. Fiume di dollari
Hmm, now I have more spags watched (almost 140).
I still don’t like these movies but I can’t say that they are all horrible.
I really hate only four:

Ritorno di Clint il Solitario
Ritorno di Shanghai Joe
Professionisti per un massacro
Giarrettiera Colt

Only got a “bottom” 7 at present:

  1. White Fang and the Hunter (Zanna Bianca e il cacciatore solitario, 1975)
  2. The Last Gun (Jim il primo, 1964)
  3. The Great Adventure (Il richiamo del lupo, 1975)
  4. White Comanche (Comanche blanco, 1968)
  5. Kid Vengeance (1977)
  6. Four of the Apocalypse (I Quattro dell’apocalisse, 1975)
  7. God’s Gun (Diamante Lobo, 1977)

And I’m not entirely sure I’m happy with putting numbers 5, 6 & 7 on that list. They’re pretty bad but they’re not that bad.

4 of the Apocalypse is not to everyones taste, but also not really one of the worst Spagies. Compared to the other 6.

I like God’s Gun better than a lot of other ones ;D

Yep, absolutely. In the case of Four of the Apocalypse it’s not a quality issue, it’s a question of personal taste. But it IS one of my least favourite Spags as things stand, so it’s in (doubt it will stay there though; I’ve still got a lot of less-well-received films to trawl through). If it were a list of “Bottom 20 Westerns” (not just Spags) then Rio Bravo would be right up there, for me. Load of old bumsniff, I thought. It’s not a poorly made film though, for sure.

okay, my old controversial list

1.They Call Me Lucky
This is South-African film, not eligible for voting.

why not enjoy the power of quoting once again, especially if i’m one of those more fortunate
hm, Bill shoots straight and without hesitation, what can i say, he’s right
strangely, i always somehow counted this western among SWs, probably because Shobary has first part among his reviews …

I found Find a Place to Die to be a well above average Spaghetti Western, with a very interesting approach to a somewhat generic plot.

and what that interesting approach would be, John? i found potential of this spaghie utterly underused and sometimes even unintentionally funny IMO (the film not potential)
what’s even worse, that it is Carnimeo’s film and directed the same year as fabulous Moment To Kill

eh, I thought I was reading “Vote for official TOP 20” here. :stuck_out_tongue:

Not so strict rules for this voting then…

I would underuse the term “fabulous” as far as The Moment to Kill is concerned. I agree with John - Find a Place to Die is a fine, little western with not so much potential and a decent execution. At least it’s coherently paced.

Of course (again), it’s all matter of taste - one cannot convince somebody to eat a cake if that person thinks it tastes like shit.

hey, Bill, when you saw They Call Me Lucky as no.1 of supposed TOP 20 list, did you think “what? that guy is batshit crazy!”

mister, me and sartana 1968 think that Moment To Kill is fabulous

Well... Yes! Hahaha!
