The Last Western You Watched?
KID VENGEANCE 1977 An all time western masterpiece.

One of THE BEST stories ever captured on celluloid, in which a young boy gets his revenge. Truelu gut wrenching and heart warming at the same time. The finale is great ----probably THE SUPERBEST EVER filmed---- amateurs like Scorsese: PAY ATTENTION, this is how to make MOVIES!!!

LEIF GARRET The best singer of all time, with billions of fans in Germany.
LEE VAN CLEEF The best actor of all time, almost as good as ANTHONY STEFFEN. RIP :’( :’( :’(
JIM BROWN The greatest football player of the universe.

My score for KID VENGEANCE 1977 is 17.5 out of 20.
:slight_smile: :wink: >:( ??? ::slight_smile: :-X

Those who don’t agree are stupid and don’t know anything ::slight_smile: You need to STUDY!!!
OH I am overcome with emotion and admiration BAD Lt  Such a refreshing style

I am in full agreement with your KID VENGEANCE 77 review except the Leif Garrett ;D
I suggest you put a COPYRIGHT or Patent :o on your new reviewing style Bad Lt
because it may get copied or plagiarised by other forum users, being so overpowering.

It is good when you do not mince your words and let everything out with emoticons

Changing topics I will be posting my revised SW Top 20 and I will make it 100% as
per this Forum’s requirements of the “Italian Western” :’(
I can see where you were coming from and the debate can continue endlessly of course, I am sorry if it got heated again , as many passionate debates do.
I have always though had my much loved STEWART GRANGER Winnetous always
placed on the DVD shelf with my SWs and considered them as such. Well there you go.

But Bad LT you know very well that my Favourite EU Countries are HOLLAND/GERMANY

I may also do a top 20 of what I will call EURO WESTERNS (a wider definition for sure)
Maybe a TOP 20 of USA Westerns where I can include my beloved HANG EM HIGH 68.

Only the pure TOP 20 Italian SWs will count of course for overall forum top 20
if anybody in forum power wants to count them in of course.

I hope to see much more of your “new style” Bad Lt and I hope I can LEARN FROM IT

I hope you do not really agree with my ‘review’, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you were not. Anyway, I was joking a little. Unfortunately I was not joking about having watched that dreadful movie yesterday. Kid Vengeance is without a doubt the absolute worst spaghetti (matzoh ball?) western I have ever had the misfortune to lay my eyes on. 17,5 out of 100 is more like it.
Winnetou is alright. I agree with you there. Hell, I have twelve of them on dvd. But liking particular westerns doesn’t make them spaghetti westerns, now does it?
I’m not too anal on definitions. A definition is just that: A definition. There are foreign westerns that feel more like spaghetti westerns than the ‘real deal’. And I’d rather watch El Topo or High Plains Drifter than, lets’s say, Corbucci’s early works.
By the way, Holland is not a country.

;D Well maybe KID VENGEANCE 77 is not a “masterpiece” but I enjoyed the revenge
elements and you must have noticed that LEE VAN CLEEF and JIM BROWN are a team:

EL CONDOR 70 TAKE A HARD RIDE 1975 KID VENGEANCE 1977

I am sure you did not like Leif Garrett too much ;).

El Topo is NOT for me but I love High Plains Drifter 73 that is so well made “SW like” :o

WINNETOU Films Lex Barker/STEWART GRANGER/Leticia Roman/Pierre Brice
I have the German DVD sets in Green colour cases and they are pure heaven all round.

As I said I am a big fan of Holland/NETHERLANDS/Pays bas/DUTCH/AMSTERDAM
and GERMANY of course.

JONNHY YUMA (Romolo Guerrieri, 1966)

See the film’s thread.

Is ‘Holland’ a country ?

We - the Dutch that is - usually say NEDERLAND when we talk about our beloved (or not) country, hardly ever use the the term HOLLAND. When we do, we are talking about the two western provinces (the Amsterdam - Rotterdam region) and most of the time (so not necessarily) it’s a derogatory term.

In English, the language we’re writing here, HOLLAND is the most common, and absolutely correct name for the country called NEDERLAND by the Dutch (like GERMANIA is the correct name for DEUTSCHLAND in Italian). The meaning of a word is a matter of definition too, and it’s nonsense (both from a linguistic and a philosophical point of view) to use definitations from one language (Dutch in this case) for another one (English).

Even in Dutch the term HOLLAND is accepted these days as a correct indication for the entire country THE NETHERLANDS.
In the most important dictionary VAN DALE the term is labelled [bij uitbr.], which means it is not the original meaning of the word, but has completely been accepted by linguistics in the meantime. You can still reject it personally, but cannot longer correct others when they use it.

Note: I saw I misplaced the H in Johnny Yuma. I like it this way!

Dont mix germany with the netherlands(When i thought about studying in nijmegen, they told me that they are not holland but the netherlands, because germans use the term holland, often not in a good tone though). We are neighbours but that does not mean you can make them one country.
I mean I like usa/mexico much, hehe.
I recently saw the documentaries on duck you sucker! I like revolution westerns and this one especially even if it has a very different tone. The movie is closer to Once upon a time in america than to any of leones earlier westerns, in my eyes. I even think the lovely soundtrack is close to the one of OUATIA!

But the documentary just showed me again that I like Frayling a lot, he has a nice way of telling facts and a anecdotes.

You misunderstand, he isn’t doing this, read again!

yes i guess i just misunderstood this. Didn´t want to offend anybody. I like the netherlands, and i think even everybody in this forum can get a long.
Do it like in silvanito´s pics: make love not war!

Thank you Scherp a very well researched analysis which makes good sense.

As I said my 2 Favourite countries in Europe are : HOLLAND and GERMANY

Or Netherlands and Germany ;D and I love AMSTERDAM as my number 1 city.

I do of course also like ITALY , its Great Films Pop Music 60s/70s, food, tourism etc

PS> Arrr Valenciano did you see Scherp using BIG LETTERS like I do !!
Will you now explode with Forum rage Valenciano ?? :o

Sergio Martino: Arizona Colt Returnshttp://www.spaghetti-western.net/index.php/Arizona_si_scatenò…_e_li_fece_fuori_tutti (dvd)

Well I watched 3:10 to Yuma in a sneak preview. Never saw the original.
It is nicely done and my first western on the big screen(I am young and don´t go to the movies that often).

But some stuff just was a bit unreal to me.
I am too much in rage about the usage of big letters to write more.

I was in the mood for some Spaghetti action tonight so SON OF DJANGO was viewed.

It did the trick for me and enjoyed GUY MADISON playing a Priest / Reverend, who of course played a similar role in REVEREND COLT .

Good shootout towards the end of the film, but some may not like the ultimate end to the film.

Don’t be, Valenciano. There are worse things in life than big letters.

I saw you spent some time studying in Nijmegen and that the people didn’t like the term ‘Holland’ over there (as an indication for their country). There’s a lot of rivalry (or worse) between the western part of the country (Holland = the provinces Noord- and Zuid-Holland) and the rest of the country. The people from ‘Holland’ are (not without reason) often called over-pretentious and arrogant (and they’re also very loud); the people from other regions, like the South (both Bad Lieutenant and I were born over there) are called ignorant ‘farmers’ (completely without reason, of course !!!). So it’s no wonder that people in other regions than the two provinces I mentioned, aren’t very keen on the term ‘Holland’. Still, like I stated in another post, the term is accepted by leading linguistics, so gramatically correct. In Belgium, the Dutch speaking part that is, the term is used throughout to indicate The Netherlands.

Historically there’s an opposition between catholic southern parts and protestant northern parts, but that’s another story and for most part it is … history.

But don’t get too angry Valenciano. Count to ten, think twice etc.

I was just joking, and unfortunately i didnt study in Nijmegen, I applied and got accepted. But in the end i settled for Heidelberg due to its good reputation, we will se if it was a mistake. As to rivalry inside the netherlands I just have a small impression by reading one book of maarten t´hart, where some of it is described.
I like most people from the netherlands, they are very open.

I have been on a Guy Madison buzz recently, so I finished the mini season by viewing THIS MAN CAN’T DIE.

I have enjoyed watching Guy Madison in these westerns I have viewed recently, as interesting to see an older man play the hero for a change.
The main theme music will stay in my head for a while I reckon anyway.

The last time I viewed this film was a U.K T.V censored version which edited the nudity and some of the violence out, so always nice to see a film in a more complete version.

THIS MAN CAN’T DIE (I Lunghi Giorni Dell’Odio) has recently been released on GDM CD #CD CLUB 7047 (19 tracks) including that great vocal.

Thanks for the info, and I will be making a purchase.

Another family viewing in my quest to brainwash the clan into becoming western fans. This one is harmless fun and has some genuinely funny moments. James Garner is always good value and it’s got Walter Brennan and Bruce Dern too for good measure.

I found the sequel, Gunfighter, with a hilarious Jack Elam, much better. But it was

a) the first of the two I saw, and
b) a long time ago

Anyway, I saw Gunfighter with the family (I guess some 12, 13 years ago, my daughter was still rather small) and we had a wonderful time. When I picked Sheriff later, we were a bit disappointed.

Yep, I have Gunfighter too. That one will be rolled out soon. But Sheriff was pretty good. The geek in me enjoyed the little quotes to previous mainstream westerns. Walter Brennan having a set of ‘eating teeth’ kept in a little bag for example just as he did in Red River.
