“Fury At Showdown” (1957)
-John Derek
An ex-gunslinger tries to overcome his past.
Average “B” western. Some decent action scenes but nothing great.

SOME DOLLARS FOR DJANGO has just been viewed, starring Anthony Steffen.
Did not recognise Frank Wolf straight away in this one with his full beard and hat.

The one thing I remember about this movie is the awful dubbing (I take it you saw it with English dub!?) of Antonio De Teffe. That voice made me wanna hit him and wish he died in the first scene of the movie… Alright spaghetti though.
Yes, I know what you mean!
A small little point…Steffen really seemed to be enjoying smoking his cigars in this one.
The Broken Trail
Made for TV 2006 western starring Robert Duvall, Thomas Haden Church, Gwendoline Yeo and Greta Scacchi.
Very well made story of horse drivers becoming reluctant guardians of 5 chinese girls who had been sold into prostitution.
Directed by Walter Hill who is always good value.
I really enjoyed this one. It has some good action but is primarily a human story and is very well done in all departments.
The Searchers
Ahh, The Searchers. That reminds me that I need to watch Red River. It’s been too long…
Alive or preferably dead.
Decent comedy SW. I liked the ‘plot twist’ at the very end of the movie. However i think score was kinda annoying with all this terrible american-western-like singing.
Watched Wanted, which was alright. Nothing special, but certainly an ok Gemma movie. The German dubbing was mediocre. Also watched My colt is the law on VHS (defunct Dutch label Empire), which was fun in naive way. It has a masked hero, of which you immediately know the identity. The plot is übersimple, but I didn’t really mind. Not a bad movie.
I’ve just finished watching ‘Mutiny at Fort Sharp’.
Good, entertaining soldier SW !!!
Four of the Apocalypse.
An interesting mix of a film and to be honest I’m still working out in my mind what I really think of it. Certainly worth viewing though. For Milian’s evil Chaco if nothing else.
"Hang “Em High” (1968)
-Clint Eastwood
Great movie
Just finished viewing CLUMSY HANDS starring PETER LEE LAWRENCE and directed by RAFAEL ROMERO MARCHENT.
Started with a romance section, then a beating, desert sequence, recovery bit,a teaching section and then into full revenge mode.
I enjoyed the film but it may be to slow for some viewers tastes, but I think it just adds to the build up of the film.
A tough little film in bits with a good performance by PETER LEE LAWRENCE, with some negative elements which I always enjoy.
Watched “WHY GO ON KILLING” with Anthony Steffen last night.
Was this his first western?
Finished Once upon a time in the West with my girlfriend. And it is still one of the best, ohh shit, it is the best movie ever(maybe not but i really love it). When the music starts for the final duel i allways get goosebumps.

How did your girlfriend like it Valenciano?
Did she enjoy it or are you facing a Bridget Jones double bill as payment?

Yep, that’s the thing i liked about it. The negativity, and the way that revenge really did nothing for the main characters. There was also a kind of interesting ‘self fulfilling prophecy’ type theme going on. The bit in the disease ridden town was a little strange (but good); however the scenes with the wise old chinese guy did border on cheesy
Yes, the negativity like you say is what did it for me.
The disease ridden town was unusual, but interesting at the same time.
I kept on thinking of the training sequences in the Rocky films re the old chinese guy sequence.
Watched Navajo Joe last night and was thoroughly entertained (it had been literally fifteen years since I had seen it). It’s not one of Corbucci’s masterpieces by any means but it’s a fun, fast-paced, revenge-based SW. I wish there was an affordable widescreen version around (since the Japanese disc is out-of-print.)
