The Last Western You Watched?

FOD, again. And Yojimbo again, before it.

God in heavenā€¦ Arizona on earth.
Suprisingly enjoyable, i think itā€™s party due to Bruno Nicolaiā€™s soundtrack, which reused some tracks from ā€œHave a good funeral my friend, Sartana will payā€ [still havenā€™t seen this movie, but i knew the theme].

ā€œTexas Rangersā€ (2001)

The movie is set in 1875, a decade after the Civil War ended. During the war, the Texas Rangers had disbanded to fight for the Confederacy. At warā€™s end, they were not reformed and the Union Army was occupying Texas, charged primarily with defending the State from Indian depredations. In the movie, the Governor of Texas asks Leander McNelly (Dylan McDermott)to form a company of Rangers to deal with the banditry along the Mexican border. Most of his company of Rangers are young men, orphans for the most part (James Van Der Beek, Ashton Kutcher) and a smattering of veterans of the late war (Robert Patrick, Randy Travis). Their prime target is the bandit King Fisher (Alfred Molina)who is stealing cattle, burning ranches, raping, looting, pillaging and otherwise breaking the law.

Decent, action filled movie. Nothing great but a fun popcorn movie.

Watched The Django Story aka GiĆ¹ le maniā€¦ Carogna. What can I say, yet another Demofilio Fidani western that is far better than whatever lousy reputation it may have. Already watching the opening credits you know youā€™re in for something big: ā€œDennis Colt as The Sanchez Twinsā€. That must be the foundation of a good movie. And it is. At least you get an action-packed 80-something minutes with not only Jack Betts (aka Hunt Powers) but also the always watchable Gordon Mitchell. Jack Betts plays the aging Django telling stories of his past bounty hunter kills. Itā€™s great fun. Recommended.

I like this film a lot too. Nice that you also enjoyed it.

Was it the bootleg from Cinecity you watched? The old VHS rental is shorter than this one.

This film definitely deserves a proper DVD release!

No. Got it on Greek ex-rental VHS. Probably cut, was 97 minutes (PAL-time) long and fullscreen. The uncut version is about 116 minutes? And yes this one should be on dvd. Its one of those spaghetti westerns with comedy elements which are actually funny and with names like Franco Nero and Eli Wallach it shouldnā€™t be hard to sell.

But sometimes its hard to figure why some make it to dvd and others donā€™t. California is another good example of an excellent spaghetti western which so far is lacking a proper release. Hopefully New Entertainment in Germany will do something about that in the near future.

I have this one, and it also has music in it from another Sartana film tooā€¦(Light the Fuseā€¦Sartana is Coming, i think). What is it with spaghettis and their soundtracksā€¦a lot of themes seem to pop up all over the place

Come to think of it i have two versions of the film, and thereā€™s quite a disparity between the English and Italian dialogues in places!

Yeah thatā€™s an interesting thing. I believe tracks from Bruno Nicolaiā€™s ost from ā€˜have a good funeralā€¦ā€™ was also used in ā€˜fighting fists of shanghai joeā€™ [which i havenā€™t seen yet]

My Name is Nobody[/url]
-One of my favorites. It was on tv last night.

-What a boring film. Not much of any spaghetti feeling, only good thing was De Masiā€™s average score which I believe was re-used from another film.

The Cinecity print comes from a widescreen german tape and has really good picture quality. The audio is in english from the old rental, except a few scenes that are in german.

The audiodubbing isnā€™t that well made, but this copy is still a decent option for now.

Watched Avenging Angel on Hallmark last night. Decent. Just too much of a Pale Rider ripoff.

Watching For A Few Dollars More on Encore right now.

ā€œAvenging Angelā€
-Kevin Sorbo

A former Preacher turned bounty hunter returns to the town where his family was killed and seeks revenge against the man who killed them.

Light on action (at least until the end) but well acted. A decent film for a made for cable TV movie

Day of Angerā€¦

'cause it described my day at work yesterday!!! (minus the gunfire)

ANY GUN CAN PLAY has just been viewed.

What did you think about it? I remember it as a far better movie than I had expected. Definitely one of the better spaghetti westerns with George Hilton in it. Gilbert Roland is always watchable. A nice ā€˜treasure huntā€™ movie with a rather nifty soundtrack.

Well, agree with you and it was nice watching it in widescreen for the first time.

Yes, Any Gun Can Play is a good one. Pretty underrated, I think. I have it on one of those el cheapo western collection DVDs, ā€œ20 Great Westerns on 4 DVDS!!!ā€

Fistful of Dollars
Never get tired of it

Saw La Vita, a volte, ĆØ molto dura, vero Provvidenza? aka Life Is Tough, Eh Providence . This is a movie that I honestly didnā€™t think I would like very much. But much too my surprise this is a very good move. A slap-stick comedy BUT it works. Tomas Milian is great as the rather odd-looking and odd-behaving bounty hunter Providence. Definitely one of the very best comedy westerns. Of course there is also Morriconeā€™s enjoyable score. Very much recommended.
