The Last Western You Watched?

south of heaven west of hell-dwight yoakam,vince vaughn,peter fonda,billybob thorton,and pee wee herman ;D

ā€˜Arriva Sabata’

  • entertaining, average material

  • good cast

Just finished watching SCALPS.

I last watched this quite a few years ago as I recall of Greek VHS with english audio, but with huge greek subtitles.
Some people do not mind subtitles all through a film which is fair enough, but I have to admit they usually piss me off.

Interesting that the music was credited to LUIGI CECCARELLI, but the film also played music from RUN MAN RUN and SONNY AND JED aswell.

Oh, and it is the only western I have seen a woman Indian fire an arrow with a piece of dynamite attached.

ā€œBrothers In Armsā€ (2005)
-David Carridine, Gabriel Casseus

Ex-Farmers become outlaws, form a gang and try to rob the bank of the man who burned their farm.

Good production values and costumes and a couple of very nice looking women, can’t disguise that fact that nobody in this movie can act their way out of a paper bag. Awful, simply awful.

Jus watched Sturges’ Hour of the Gun. Solid stuff, with some excellent music by Jerry Goldsmith.

'Campa carogna … ’

  • entertaining, average stuff
  • nothing special though
  • nice shootings

Watched Tombstone last night. In my opinion waaaaay better than Wyatt Earp with Kevin Costner. Mind you, I am a Kurt Russell fan, but he was made to play Earp, he really did a good job bringing the character to life.

Any thoughts from the crowd on which is the better film???

I think Wyatt Earp is ok but it takes far too long to get going, i found the first hour or so quite hard to sit through but got quite into it when it started kicking off.
I’ve only seen the version that is just over 3 hours, has anyone seen the extended version? Is it just more boring bits?

[/quote]Tombstone no doubt, wyatt earp is fine but tombstone is one of the best westerns ever

Watched Twice A Judas last night. Was alright I guess, not as good as I had hoped it would be. Not one of Klaus Kinski’s better spaghetti western performances. But all in all OK.

I have to agree with Yodlaf. I like them both but think Tombstone is the better film. One of Kurt Russell’s best movies for me (along with The Thing). However, I do like Costner and think he is one of the few keeping Westerns alive in the modern era. (Dances With Wolves, Wyatt Earp and Open Range were all good films)

I’ve only seen Wyatt Earp out of these, i haven’t gotten around to seeing open range yet and everyone i know who has seen Dances with Wolves has told me it’s incredibly boring and self indulgent.

I prefer OPEN RANGE the best, as I find the Wyatt Earp story has been told to many times.

Dances with Wolves is a bit to self indulgent .

Well I guess it’s a matter of opinion and I’m probably in the minority on this one but I liked Dances with Wolves at the time of release and still enjoy it. (although it certainly loses something on the small screen)

Self indulgent? Maybe, but it works for me. I don’t mind self indulgence when the film maker has a strong idea they want to stick with and they keep the audience in mind too. What I hate is self indulgence at the expense of entertainment. (i.e. Peter Greenaway) When the director doesn’t give a damn about the poor sap who has just dished out hard earned cash and has to sit through 3 hours of rambling egotism. I don’t think Costner can be accused of that. He is ultimately a popular film maker.

I’d recommend Dance With Wolves to anyone who hasn’t already seen it, but don’t expect an action fest. It is a lot slower paced.

IF YOU WANT TO LIVE…SHOOT was viewed .

Full blooded Spaghetti , with no slapstick style comedy on offer here, but plenty of killings.

This is the one with Ivan Rassimov? Or another? (Sometimes hard to tell with all the damn shared or similar titles flying around! ;)).

Yes, that is correct the one with Ivan Rassimov.

It is the first western I have seen him in, and thought he was quite good.
He is an interesting actor to watch, he has a quality about him.

Yes…I’ve always been a big fan of his, so i have all his SW appearances, and i always thought it was a pity he wasn’t in more than five. MY favourite one is definitely Cowards Don’t Pray ( with Gianni Garko)…it’s a shame it hasn’t had a decent release. (tho, i believe there is a French dvd under the title Django Ne Prie Pas…but i can’t get hold of it at all…).

I finally watched Giu la testa, in the steel book special edition. also seen some of the specials with Frayling, whom i like a lot.
Very good film, i will write a larger statement later in the movies“ thread.

I look forward to seeing his other westerns in the future.
