The best I’ve seen recently is Corbucci’s Il Mercenario, great stuff. 3:10 to Yuma was also pretty good, especially visually; the perfect black&white movie. The thriller-esque story works very nicely. The professionals (1966/ Richard Brooks) is very solid stuff. Just good overall (cast, action and direction) but nothing special. Jack Palance should have gotten more screen time. I also think it was a bit too long. I saw Cowboy lst week on WDR (good channel for westerns, by the way). It’s about a hotel receptionist who becomes a cowboy. Well, it’s not htat it’s bad, but it isn’t good either. It’s always nice to see Jack Lemmon though. Tonight it will be The Violent Men I think, WDR:

Rauhe Gesellen
(The Violent Men, USA 1954)
Regie: David Gordon Green
Gunfighters moon- with Lance Henriksen, average movie with some weak acting from a couple of the actors.
Finally watched “Deadly partners” Packinpah. A good one, knows how to show violence and indians, in my mind how the west really was.
Thanks, sorry my writing
Raph
Caiano: Guns don’t Argue
Petroni: Tepepa
“Streets Of Laredo” (1949)
- William Holden
Average “B” western about three good natured outlaws who, when they become seperated, two of them end becoming Texas Rangers and they end up hunting down their friend who is still an outlaw.
Nothing great. just average.
Ned Blessing-return to plum creek,Ned Blessing-return of the hooded man. pretty good tv westerns from the 90’s.

Well saw Django on WDR, and yes I love it. The theme song(- YouTube with italian lyrics!!) is perfect and I like the soundtrack that is im my eys a bit more american. The middle part with the mexicans might not be the best part of the movie, but the images the atmosphere and the message is just too good to not like it. Think the side story with the mexicans is a bit of a fistfull of dollars copy, but the main story with jackson is much better. The german dub is not so well, especially the final scene which i saw in italian on youtube. It was so easy to translate the prayer style with father son and the holy ghost, but they messed it up.
Where did you get il mercenario, i wanna see it.
I can’t imagine the German dub being worse than the English. That’s a real fucking shame if you ask me, Django being such a great movie. Maybe I should’ve watched it in German, but I chose Fidani’s Savage Guns instead. It’s the second time I’ve watsched it, this time being stoned and drunk. I must say that it’s a great movie to wach while being under such influences.
“Return Of The 7”
Adequate sequel to the film classic. Nowhere near as good as the first, but it was nice to see Yul Brynner back as “Chris”. I didn’t like Robert Fuller’s version of “Vin” (Steve McQueen in the original) but that has more to do with the way the script was written than his acting. Some good action scenes, but nothing memorable.
Where did you get il mercenario, i wanna see it.So do I! With it being such an important SW I am shocked there isn't a English language DVD for Il Mercenario available. A few years ago Stingray (Japan) released a widescreen English audio version but these have all sold out. I haven't been able to track down a DVD-R of it either. There are a couple of Italian releases currently available, I have to make do with one of those and watch it in Italian.??? Spaghetti's are hardly ever shown on British TV, apart from the odd Leone and a short season of classics Alex Cox introduced a couple of years ago (seeing these started me tracking down SW DVDs) we don't get any. :(
You got that right, dude !!! Otherwise it’s hard to watch through !!!

‘Il mercenario’ runs on MGM (German pay-tv channel) once in a while. There you have the opportunity to watch it either in English or German !!!
That MGM channel sound great, German film audiences are obviously viewed as discerning, even the German DVDs are full of great extras. There are probably more SW DVDs available in Germany than in any other country, including Italy!
I Hope MGM decide to release the film on DVD someday soon.
“Desolation Canyon” (2006)
-Patrick Duffy, Stacy Keach
Made for cable TV movie. Story about two retired outlaws, one of them (Duffy) has become a town sheriff, the other (Keach) is just living the good life with a lovely mexican wife. but problems arise when a gang of outlaws rob the town bank and kidnap Keach’s grandson so the two old friends team up to hunt them down.
A decent film. Nothing very original, just a fun movie to watch
DUST- a very unusual and not very entertaining italian/german western from 2001.
Just re-watched A Stranger In Town (aka Un Dollaro Tra I Denti) last night. A great spaghetti western. Frank Wolff is always enjoyable. Particularly like the moment when Frank Wolff’s character Aguilar stops his men from killing any of the towns people saying there’s has been enough bloodshed after he himself has gunned down a whole platoon of army soldiers. Definitely a dangerous charachter. Enjoyable. Recommended!
Watched a couple since the last time I posted in this topic. Sam Whiskey, with Burt Reynolds, was ok I guess. About a guy who takes a job putting gold back into a bank. It’s a comedy of sorts, but it’s almost never funny. Nevertheless it’s watchable, but that’s about it. Zachariah was, well… weird. A superbly hippiewestern with Don Johnson. Basically about two friends in the wild west, who chose different paths. I’d like to hear other people’s opinions about this. Tried to watch White Comanche, but I turned it off. It’s so bad, it’s actually funny with William Shatner in a double rol as twin brothers (one a peyote munching Indian). The transfer however, was utter crap. Right now I’m a half hour into Silverado, which I’ve never seen before (don’t know why). So far it looks allright, apart from the obviuosly fake beards and moustaches. And it’s pretty entertaining, if not a tad too Hollywood-esque.
I had more than a few spare hours yesterday and sat through Johnny Hamlet, which, although not heavy on action was definitely interesting and had some nice imagery (loved that theme song too!); The Dirty Outlaws (why is there always this need to change the titles of the films?), which i enjoyed also, and then Revenge of the Ressurected, which i’ve seen many times already but just fancied sitting through again.
The movies with Andrea Giordana are great SW !!! I love ‘Find a man’ sung by Maurizio Graf !!!
Don’t suppose you know if the song is actually available anywhere? Maybe as part of a compilation disc? I’d really love to get my hands on it!
