The Last Western You Watched?

Five Man Army. I’ve never seen Pedersoli as fierce as in that one.

“Ride The High Country”(1962)
-Randolph Scott, Joel McCrea

Plot: IMDB
An ex-lawman is hired to transport gold from a mining community through dangerous territory. But what he doesn’t realize is that his partner and old friend is plotting to double-cross him.

Phantom’s Review: One of the greats. Scott and McCrea are perfect as the two aging Ex-Lawmen. Excellent performances, cinematography and direction (by Sam Peckinpah) A classic all the way.

Viewed Jim Golden Poker.

A card player arrives into town and saves the town from the local Mr. Big.

The main guy reminded me of Gemma with a long fringe in some shots. Funny bar fight. One or two interesting moments in this one, but average on the whole.

Just viewed El Dorado from Hawks

Well could say it’s a “modernization” of Rio Bravo, with Mitchun replacing Dean Martin, and Caan doing the same for Ricky Nelson, but Haws it’s sutch a talented director that this more a than it’s own rip-off. Wayne and Mitchun interact pretty well, Caan it’s also very good (a more talented actor than Nelson), and I don’t remember seeying him that young.
It’s a classical, the all cast was very good indeed, good storyline good dialogues, good film from one of may favourite “classical” directors

I completey agree with your review of El Dorado, El Topo. It is a fine Western done in the classical style when that was becoming unfashoniable.

I like El Dorado even more than Rio Bravo. It’s more darker and violent and Mitchum is very good in it.

Absolutely, adding Mitchum and Caan makes EL DORADO a heavy favorite of mine.

Ah, you can’t go wrong with Mitchum! A great actor.

The Searchers (John Ford)

Well told story. Grand western with good ol’ Duke and an overacting Jeffrey hunter.

I would probably say this was the most overrated movie of all time, still, if we all had the same opinions, it would be a boring world, wouldn’t it?

And SD will be displeased with your opinions about Jeffrey Hunter…

Well I got the same feelings about it, I’ve seen it twice and just couldn’t find out that special extra, the extra that I find in other classicas like She wore a yellow Ribbon, Fort Apache, My Darling Clementine, just to say this ones, I just be missing something but…
Not the best from the Admiral from me, but i everyone who likes to watch and discuss cinema seems to like it

The Shadow Of Chikara
Good film.

Ringo, It’s Massacre Time
My thoughts on the films thread.

Ringo, Kill

Enjoyable SW even with the fact that I never knew exactly what the kid knew & how it would lead to treasure. :-\

Tumbleweeds (William S. Hart)

My first full length Silent Film. Not sure what to think. I know I enjoyed it and it’s kind of hard to say if it’s a bad film or not (it isn’t a bad film). Very interesting and somewhat entertaining. The land rush sequence was surprisngly large scale and realistic for a Silent film.

You can catch it on youtube.

Really? What did you like about it?

It was well filmed and creepy.

Considering it is a semi-horror film, I found it quite lacking in that department. The overall cheapness wasn’t compensated with good ideas and I thought the performances were below average as well. This made a boring film. Not the worst, but subpar and boring.Too bad, as the concept of the film was interesting enough. But that’s just my 2 cts.

:o And you call yourself a film buff! Well, if you include shorts, I’ve seen maybe 30-40 silents.

-Average film with wierd ending, I liked the Gordon Mitchell’s character but unfortunately he didn’t have much screentime.
