Not great, but very entertaining.

The Mercenary and the first half of OUATITW. I will watch the rest tonight. You have to give the classics a viewing every few months!

This week I’ve been watching episode after episode of the TV classic “The Wild Wild West” from the first season DVD collection. Tonight I’ll be watching Clint Eastwood’s “Pale Rider”

DUEL IN THE SUN with gregory peck

The War Wagon

John Wayne and Kirk Douglas-great movie

Adios Sabata (in german… )

Tomorrow will be a great day for me : for the first time, I’ll watch FAFDM in a cinema experience…

Haven’t been watching many westerns lately but yesterday I watched The Stranger Returns. Great film and Tony Anthony is soo cool. I wonder why shotgun is so rarely used gun in spaghetti westerns.

"Ride Lonesome"
w/ Randolph Scott

"Draw!"
w/ Kirk Douglas and James Coburn

hey,i love coburn but iv’e never heard of DRAW, any good stranger?

MGM DVD R1 release of “The Hunting Party” (1971), Dir by Don Medford (more of a TV dir did some Twilight Zones, The Rifleman, Untochables, etc., etc.)

Picked up this bloody Almeria shot Western today and watched it, its not bad, and its entertaining, very bloody, as Gene Hackman (Ruger) and his “hunting party” go after Frank Calder (Oliver Reed) and his gang who mistakenly happen to kidnap a woman (Candace Bergen) that they think is the school marm but who in reality is Ruger’s wife (for the purpose of teaching Reed to read). Ruger equiped his “party” with scoped 800 yard rifles, and they easily pick off Calder’s gang. There are really no good guys in this western and it dose have a SW like ending, no big shootouts though, but lots of carnage, animal gutting, shotgun to the face, etc., etc., definitely not for the squimish among you.

Note to future Western Directors: This is what modern westerns need more “carnage” less dialog

Forgetable score by Riz Ortolani

Recognized some town landscapes from “The Mercenary” and a lot of the familiar ramblas, the oasis from FAFDM, and also a lot of landscapes that I’ve not seen before. If you can pick it up for under $10 is worth a look.

Reed does a very credible job as an outlaw much better and more believeable than Sean Connery’s turn as a scout in Shalako.

The life and times of judge roy bean, another great paul newman western.

Two great films from director Anthony Mann:

"The Devils Doorway"
w/ Robert Taylor

and

"Man Of The West"
w/ Gary Cooper

“Ride, Vaquero!”

w/ Robert Taylor, Ava Gardner and Anthony Quinn.

A very good movie from the '50’s. Taylor plays a mysterious outlaw named “Rio” who works with a bandit ( Quinn). When Taylor’s life is saved by a rancher and his wife (Howard Keel and Ava Gardner) he goes to work for them, which of course leads to a fight with Quinn. Very entertaining.

Django il bastardo. Hadn’t watched this one for a few years. I like this film, but it lacks the SW atmosphere. I finaly put my finger on it. I think this film was made in the Spring or early Summer, hence the green grass everywhere. Most SW’s were made from the late Summer onwards providing the dusty parched landscapes that are so typical. I have to say that the town in this film reminded me more of Little House on the Prairie that a SW. Easy to see where Clint got the idea for High Plains Drifter.

just finished RENEGADE…the only way i know to describe this film is a WESTERN ON ACID! :stuck_out_tongue:

"A Minute To Pray, A Second To Die"
w/ Alex Cord

Hi Jonah

“Draw” was made around 1984 as a made for cable TV movie. It’s an all right movie. Nothing great. The only thing that makes this more then just a “B” movie is it’s wonderful stars. Coburn and Douglas give their usual terriffic performances, but the rest of the film is just a middle of the road movie.
