^RIPD

he,he…I posted something on it in Reply #10449. ;)
aaah, i see …
well, 6/10 for me

RIPD sucks ass. It’s basically Men in Black, but even shittier.

I don’t even know what it is. A movie title?

ehm - one would assume that my post (reply no.10599, page 530) was quite clear about it - but okay - yes it is a movie title

Okay, sorry, but why do you spell it like this: ^RIPD

must say those guns are pretty cool - and there’s a fine spaghettisque scene in the flick

“All is Lost”, the new Redford film. Was surprised how much I liked it, no dialogue for 99% of the film…reminded me of the beginning of a few Leone films in that respect. A recommend for anyone looking for something different.

Trees Lounge - 1996- Steve Buscemi

Nice little project directed by Buscemi, the well known actor with the best sounding name in the business, in his debut work as a director.
Its one of those low profile laid back indie films, but contrary too many a well made one and above all an unpretentious one.
There’s no real plot, the all thing rotates around a self biographic character named Tommy Basilio, wonderfully played by Buscemi. The guy is down on his luck big time, so he drinks is life down, maybe not to forget I think, but just to live by his own expectations, that are none. His all small Universe it’s a small bar called Trees lounge, that exists in every town of the western world, with its array of more than regular clients, that spend more time there, than in they’re homes.
I was saying the film looked biographical cause I read that the film displays the kind of life that Buscemi would had if he hadn’t became a successful actor, it seems that Buscemi even worked in an ice-cream truck like in the film so.
The characters are great there are some great scenes, and the all thing looks very real, in a good way, not that kind of fake reality made by measure. I know a few fellows that could easily be a part of the cast.
Great acting work, with plenty cool lines funny scenes and fantastic dialogues, told by some familiar names, its a slow paced film, so words and how they are told are everything. Some actors just made cameo appearances, others had more screen time. Of course we are in John Cassavetes universe here, but in Trees lounge is just one more aspect that made me appreciate t eve more.
Good film

Blue Tiger (1994) - After a yakuza member wearing a mask accidently kills a woman’s son, she seeks revenge… sort of references Death Rides a Horse in a way, with her looking for a guy with a tattoo. Some good action and Virgina Madsen is great… but pretty average revenge film, not as interesting as it sounds.

Watched 2 HK flicks
Time and Tide
Tokyo Raiders
The first one was the better of the two, with better action scenes. Plenty of stuff in Tokyo Raiders doesn’t work, like the music.
Had a hard time figuring out what both of these movies were about really. Some very bad storytelling in both of them. But they’re all about action and there’s a sufficient amount of it.

China Gate - A group of mercenaries led by Gene Barry are on a mission to blow up an ammo dump, also starring Angie Dickinson, Nat King Cole and Lee Van Cleef. Fun adventure film and quite violent for what it is. Worth a watch.

Pacific Rim - After the first 20 minutes or so I didn’t think I was gonna like it but after a while I thought it was pretty enjoyable, one of the better CGIfests I’ve seen. Some decent battles with the huge warriors. I watched it in 2-D by btw.

The New One-Armed Swordsman - Not watched it for a few years. Still just as enjoyable, the Blu Ray transfer is pretty good too. Out of the three of them I’d say the second one looks the best on Blu though.

Fantastic little film, real slice-of-life piece. We swoop down, we hang out with the characters for awhile, we leave them to it. You can almost smell the sweet liquor of the bar.

I felt let down by this. I mean I shouldn’t have been expecting much looking at the trailers beyond a dazzling cgi-fest, but I WAS hoping for more, coming as it was from Guillermo Del Toro. But, alarm bells were ringing loud within about the first ten minutes and storywise it just stayed as flat as a pancake. Merely IMO, of course.

Effects were superb though (I too saw it in 2D, but then again I almost never see anything in 3D. Sh!tty gimmick if you ask me, 3D).

The World’s End - I liked it.

i liked it too

anyway, watched The Raid Redemption - action packed martial arts and shoot em up movie
well, i heard it was kind of an inspiration to Dredd and also that it has some great action scenes so i wanted to see it finally
well, i thought i’d enjoy this … more
but i almost turned it off after an hour of watching, realizing most of action consists of some kungfu fights (or whatever it was) and shoot em up stuff is in minority - well only one bigger scene with submachineguns in the beginning, although great
i’m just not into these martial art movies like Ong Bak or similar - when this type of action starts i usually begin to think about completely other matters and stop paying attention to what’s going on the screen …

2 Guns|2013|Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg.

Not bad, but nothing spectacular. It was somewhat entertaining during some parts, despite my dislike of M.Wahlberg. It could have been great but it falls apart under the weight of ridiculousness. Good cast though!.., it was nice to see Edward James Olmos as a Mexican drug lord and IMO Bill Paxton stole the film as a strange sleazy CIA baddy. 6.5/10

The Wolverine
remember that time when first Wolvie movie was released back in 2009 alongside with Star Trek and i was surprised how great ST was and how horribly they dealed with good old Wolvie character
this year happened to be quite similar, again perfect ST movie if you ask me and The Wolverine … well, let’s say it was little better than the previous one, but nothing really special, quite boring in the end, but i liked some action throughout it which was definitely better than the last time, plus interesting atmosphere - i quite appreciated the fact it has taken place in Japan mostly
i hope Xmen Days Of Future Past will kick ass

Rififi
-Classic french crime movie.

Tree of Life
-Amazing film, I was very tired and doing something else while watching it but quite soon I was captivated by its beauty.

Colonel Redl
-Second film in the trilogy by istvan Szabo with Klaus Maria Brandauer. Didn’t like it as much as I liked Mefisto, Brandauer is again excellent in the lead role but I couldn’t really relate to his character.

Haven’t really heard anything good about The Wolverine. Been pushing back watching it just because it sounds possibly long and boring. Pretty sad if you can’t make a Wolverine film that’s plenty entertaining.

Tree of Life -Amazing film, I was very tired and doing something else while watching it but quite soon I was captivated by its beauty.

I basically disregarded this film without knowing anything about it. I’ll give it a look.

Last night I watched Dark Skies (2013) - probably the best alien abduction themed horror film I’ve seen besides Communion. It functions on its own very well, but it also includes a lot of stuff from abduction culture so someone involved with the film must know their stuff (its a topic I keep up on out of interest, not out of belief). Still have to watch the other recent one, The Fourth Kind.

PRISONERS|2013|Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal.

Surprisingly this turned out to be a decent flick with strong performances by all involved, especially Hugh Jackman who is believable in the role of the desperate father searching for his daughter who went missing along with her friend. Aside from having a few bumps in the story and being a bit too long 2.5 hours, this is a gripping movie with twists and turns and gut-wrenching suspense that will keep you guessing. Mind you, the subject matter may not be for everyone’s cup of tea, but for me the film was watchable enough.7.5/10
