The Last Movie You Watched?

i watched Highlander II: Quickening, but only second half, so i missed those cute futuristic punks on flying skateboards (flyboards?)
well, i didn’t miss much i guess, because this movie is a memorable mess of everything - you have magic here (a cheap one), shielding against radiation around planet, teleportation over interstellar distances, sword fighting … and yes Christopher Lambert hovering and glowing with some sort of blue aura in the end … i laughed

anyway, i’ll probably go through entire series, i’m just curious how fucked up these sequels really are - four of them, plus one anime part, which is reportedly good
well, we’ll see…

Try The Sinful Dwarf.

The One Armed Executioner and They Call Her Cleopatra Wong - Had myself a Phillipino/Filipino double bill of Bobby A. Suarez flicks. Good, cheap brainless fun.

Satanico Pandemonium - My brother popped round for the evening and we watched this Mexican Nunsploitation film. Pretty good. I must check out that other Alucarda film at some point.

Sounds worth a look, bookmarked this one for later. Have you watched the featurette on nunsploitation movies that comes with the extras on that disc?
Have you watched the featurette on nunsploitation movies that comes with the extras on that disc?
Not yet, I only broke the cellophane this evening.

Alucarda is a good one. The caption on dvd cover sums it up: more blood, loud screaming and nudity than any horror film i can think of.

“The Friends of Eddie Coyle” - Robert Mitchum at his best.

Bookmarked this one also. See the extras include an interview with Guillermo Del Toro about the director- would not expect to see him in an interview about something like this

The Departed - one of the choirmistress’ choices I stayed in for. This is probably one of those that would’ve suited the bluray touch that is discussed elsewhere?
She likes her gangsters and claret - and I particularly enjoyed the DiCaprio, Nicholson and Wahlberg characters.
Despite being brought up on nihalistic spags like El Puro, The Great Silence et all, I was somewhat shocked by one particular bit ::slight_smile:

I’ve always enjoyed this one - but you dear Rev, experienced in the world of more… perverse films as you are, what were you shocked by?

;D
Talking of perverse films I remember being in a main street dvd shop in Le Mans over a decade ago, and thought I’d try to get a copy of Amelie, as I’d seen a clip on TV but it wasn’t yet out on this side of the channel. My Franglais being less than perfectement went along these lines…
“Avez-vous la film Amelie?”
Gallic shrug…
“Cest une femme Amelie?”
“Ahhh! Oui” he winked, and took me behind a beaded curtain in the corner of the shop and pointed to a shelf…
“Non” I replied… “Amelie…
… NOT anally!”

(apparently the film was called something else out there.)

The bit where DiCaprio gets it in the head :o

Onna ga kaidan wo agaru toki (1960) aka When a Woman Ascends the Stairs by Mikio Naruse.

This may be called a Japanese “Nights Of Cabiria”, not only on account of similar plot, but also in terms of quality. It’s a very well made flick with plenty of impressive performances, particularly by Hideko Takamine and of course grandiose Tatsuya Nakadai. This a story about a young geisha who has to either become a wife or buy a bar of her own. It’s a pretty sad film, just like about poor Cabiria played by Giulietta Masina. She is taken in numerous times and always in debts so that she can’t fulfill her dream. The first half is rather slow moving and nothing especially exciting or interesting transpire. However, it gets much better in the second half and the conclusion is satisfying overall. Great little movie, I might come back to it after a year, it a truly engaging drama that should be more known than it is. Certainly not as good as Fellini’s masterpiece, but it has some potential as well. Worth a look 7/10

Indeed, quite surprised me as well. I hadn’t seen the Hong Kong original when I first watched it, so it was very unexpected. Since then, I have seen Infernal Affairs, but I feel the killing is handled a lot better by Scorsese.

At least they wont make a sequel of this one unless they have clones or something

At Midnight I’ll Take Your Soul (1963).

This is the first Coffin Joe movie, and hopefully for me, the last. I’m not sure why this film has such a cult following. Its a spectacularly shitty film, bad script, bad characters, bad acting, not scary, too talky, no atmosphere, bad special effects. The movie is not scary at all, and the plot is basically just about Coffin Joe being a total asshole to everybody.

Feardotcom (2002)

I actually saw this one when it first came out in cinemas and decided to watch it again. Very derivative and unoriginal. The film borrows elements from many other films but not enough good ideas of its own. The plot makes zero sense and has zero logic. Still, I don’t think it deserves as low an imdb rating as 3.2. Its much better than that. Its got good atmosphere and cinematography.

Lone Wolf and Cub: The Sword of Vengeance (1972)

This is the first Lone Wolf and Cub film. I finally got around to seeing it after hearing many good things. Wakayama is not as handsome and charismatic as Toshiro Mifune but he’s excellent with a sword and a good actor. I liked it but it obviously had very cheap production. Hopefully I can see the rest of the series this week.

Hannibal - Another one I didn’t like when first seeing years ago, but liked quite a bit on a new viewing. The messed-up-face-guy still didn’t work at all for me, would have been a lot better with less cheesy looking make up or maybe it just wasn’t played right. This plus the totally uninteresting drama between Clarice and Ray Liotta’s character are my main problems with this film. Hannibal Lecter is such an interesting character and I like seeing him out in the world instead of locked away. Anthony Hopkins is of course perfect for the role. Never realized Ridley Scott directed this until recently.

Give Tonight I Will Possess Your Corpse a chance. It’s kind of a remake but much more accomplished in my opinion. At least the color hell sequence is well worth it.

somehow the 2.second season of LOST popped up in my vicinity so i started to watch few days ago
actually, i’m one of those few people on Earth who have never seen a single episode
it is little difficult to watch it without 1.season but i got some instructions about what’s going on

Not a good idea to watch the 2nd season without having watched the first one.

Being the cinematic masochist that I am I probably will end up giving this a try one day lol.
