The Exterminator - the 1980 film with Robert Ginty as a Vietnam vet who’s cleaning up the lowlife pedos, pimps, and the gang that crippled his mate, all with the help of a box of borrowed vietnam hardware and an industrial meat-mincer. :o
It was ok, but probably better when I first saw it in the early 80s and expected less.
Death Wish vigilante stylee - but featured the “I’ll be back” catchphrase 4 years earlier than that Terminator chappy did!
i revisited some episodes of Red Dwarf tonight, haven’t seen it for a while but it is still fun to watch
I’m currently working my way through Man At The Top Series Two.
I just saw the Innkeepers 2011 directed by Ti West.
I instantly became a fan of West when I saw House of the Devil. This is another strong effort, but perhaps a little bit weaker. I like how West starts slowly and builds up. The first third of the film is pretty much introducing us to the characters and what type of people they are. The Yankee Pedlar Inn looks pretty damn cool, I wouldn’t mind getting a room next time I’m in Conn State.
At times the movie felt more like an episode of Goosebumps than a movie. It had its share of weak dialogue, but the overall effort was strong. Dang, Kelly McGillis looks alot less glamorous than when she was Tom Cruise’s love interest in Top Gun. Her character could’ve been fleshed out more but she had limited screen time.
Weekend aan Zee (2012, Ilse Somers)
A (would-be) Flemish Sex in the City, with four of Flanders’ more talented young actresses as four friends who spend a weekend at sea, without boyfriends and/or husbands. One of them takes her baby, another one her latest flame (she met him on the way to the seaside resort). And that’s the beginning of a lot of trouble.
Good performances, but the combination of light-hearted comedy and a few bittersweet injections doesn’t pay off. Predictable all the way and not really funny.

John Gavin took over the role from Frederic Stafford, in this lightweight OSS 117 adventure. It was a French-Italian co-production, but French director André Hunebelle gave up after a while and the Italians virtually took over the production (and appointed two different directors to complete it). Gavin is probably best known for being contracted to play 007 in Diamonds are forever, but losing the role (in spite of this contract) to Connery, when the latter accepted to play Bond one more time (at least). He was also the US ambassador in Mexico and rumours say this notorious ladies man was gay.
Anyway, whatever critics might have said about his acting (he’s no Laurence Olivier) he does a decent job here, but the movie is only mildly entertaining. The story about OSS infiltrating a criminal organization isn’t that involving and there’s not enough action to compensate the shortcomings. However, Gavin does well in the fight scenes and it’s fun to see several familiar spaghetti western faces in supporting roles, such as George Eastman, Piero Lulli and Robert Hossein. Film also stars Luciana Paluzzi - Fiona Volpe from Thunderball - and Rosalba Neri.

I thought it was crap. Horrible acting, silly story, very little atmosphere, bad ending…
Under Siege - after most profound French New Wave debate, which i didn’t want to interupt with something so shallow as Seagal movie, here we are
Seagal movie
one of the best
haven’t seen it a long time i was quite looking forward to watch it and i almost forgot - but don’t worry, i was right in time, i just turned it on when Erika was going to do the cakejob
what is remarkable about this classic is how badly used are villains here - one can only wonder why they bothered with depicting Colm Meaney, Gary Busey and some tall badass black mercenary as most profesional and mean sobs on the ship to just blow them away in a very cheap and uninspired way
at least, Seagal vs. Tommy Lee Jones knife fight is fine, but i wanted more …
while watching Red Dwarf 5-6.season, i looked at imdb profile of the show - and they are making new season this year (tenth), didn’t know that, but it’s great to know Back to Earth story arch wasn’t last
Never found Red Dwarf funny myself.
what about Black Books then?
Red Dwarf is sometimes not funny even for me, 8.season was quite disappointment at the time, but i like most of its humour in 1-6.season
what about Black Books then?
Don’t like that either, that Bill Bailey gets on my nerves.
I like my comedy to be funny, not pretentious.
Scherpschutter noticed you have been viewing alot of recently made films.
?
I notice more than I notice these days
Rewatched an old Shaw favorite:

Have you seen Man Of Iron Scherp?
Red Zone Cuba, 1966… It’s actually not bad. The director/writer/star, Coleman Francis, should’ve waited till he had enough cash to give the project a touch of varnish. -Because cheap filmstock is a distraction. I can watch most anything, as long as the actual celluloid isn’t blemish-y. The attack on the prison-compound were its weakest scenes. Francis forgot to ‘build up’ the compound’s impregnability. It looked like any 9-year-old with a toy knife could escape from it. The rest of the film had a gritty reality to it. The film promises, but doesn’t deliver.
No, I haven’t. Will be looking for it (the title was mentioned at Coolass cinema in relation to this movie, if I’m not mistaken)

Looks very promising. Found it on CG, next week’s the week.
I think it was indeed called ‘virtually a remake’, if I remember well. The trailer suggests that the storylines are indeed rather similar.
