Just finished watching this one. Set in the good old days in the south, and what can happen in a smalltown and how the law actcs. Better than average low budget film from the 70"s, slow moving a bit then picks up steam in the action and sex scenes. Good enough for me.

Yeah Yodlaf, that’s where i got it from too! I bought it used in great shape. I had heard about this movie that’s why i got it. The reviews on imdb were all good. The only thing about the disc is, it has no extras, not even the trailer.
But that’s ok, i didn’t mind.

ps, Geoffrey Lewis is a hoot in this!

Love it. It’s loaded with great scenes. Even though the ocean is on the wrong side of LA. Robert Bray is solid, or the ‘second best’ Hammer, behind Meeker. It doesn’t really matter after a few minutes in… I like the non-dialogue sections of the script. Whereas Spillane as Hammer, in The Girl Hunters is a non-stop chatterbox. MGIQ has great cars too, like Kiss Me Deadly, and great action. There really isn’t a weak spot in MGIQ… it’d be all about ditching the cops and doing whatever that chick wanted.

Nid de Guêpes, 2002… The (Wasp) Nest. Explosive violence on a Extreme Prejudice/Wild Bunch scale. Virtually non-stop action. Even in the beginning, Pascual Greggory is watching a TV-doc about wasps before grabbing his gun (and violin) and heading out… As Samy Naceri and Benoit Majimel are whistling the ‘Magnificent Seven-theme’ on the van-ride to the same place. Meanwhile, Albania’s top mobster is being escorted through Strasbourg by an elite French security-vanguard, as the mobster’s private army closes in… If you can overlook (and director/writer, Florent Siri makes it easy to) the coincidences that brings all the characters to the same industrial-park, this film is rewardingly spectacular. Absolute maximum re-watchability.

I am watching Sidney Lumet’s classic first film, 12 Angry Men. The ensamble acting is just simply fantastic - Lee J. Cobb is great but then everyone else is. The cinematography by Boris Kaufman really drives hoime the sweaty claustrophbia of the room. I would like to get hold of the Criterion Edition and compare it to the original teleplay the film is based on that is included on there.

I watched this one recently myself and I could not agree more it’s a fantastic piece of film making.

Husbands and Wives (1992, Woody Allen)

A typical Allenesque breaking-up-relations dramady, full of great dialogue and acting.
Could have been one of his best movies, but it’s marred by a truly irritating hand-held camera (I watched large parts with eyes closed) and some jump-cut editing that serves no real purpose.

A bit painfull to watch in the light of Woody & Mia’s wedding problems that were about to make all the headlines

1953… INFERNO, with Robert Ryan and Rhonda Fleming. An intensely gritty survival-drama… willpower and ingenuity vs. a scorching desert environment. Ryan’s a ruthless but likeable tycoon, searching for metal-deposits on horseback with his wife (Fleming) and an associate: William Lundigan (Fleming’s lover). Ryan’s horse throws him and he breaks his leg… but Fleming and Lundigan decide to leave him there, go back, report him missing, and collect his fortune. The cinematography is outstanding. You get a real sense of the heat, as Ryan becomes almost primordial in his drive to remain vital. The film switches-scenes back to the lovers in their opulent splendor, creating a great contrast that becomes suspenseful as Ryan begins navigating his way back by star-position. Fleming out-badgirl’s Elizabeth Taylor, especially in the ultra-satisfying finale.

I like the camera work in this film very much, and I don’t mind the few jump cuts (maybe I liked them too). Dialogue, acting and the screenplay are indeed terrific. Probably Allen’s best directed film, probably his best film either, probably his only 10/10 film. But 9/10 without a doubt.
I totally enjoyed it a few weeks ago.

Oklahoma Crude (Kramer / 1973)

A nice little film from the days when big stars didn’t have to be in blockbusters. A good story, interesting characters and some quirky dialogue make this well worth a watch without ever being life changing. Faye Dunaway in the lead plays an embittered, headstrong woman driven to be independent and get her wildcat oil well into production while Jack Palance uses every dirty strong arm tactic in the book to relieve her of her asset on behalf of a ruthless and corrupt big business organisation. John Mills plays her father, desperately trying to make up for his earlier paternal failings and George C. Scott is the unemployed hobo he hires against her wishes to help her out. All plays out enjoyably with a nice little twist to the seemingly predictable ending and nice to see Scott playing a lighter role for a change.

This is a pretty good (and dirty) western. Kramer’s only film which I like. Also less preachy than his usual overblown stuff.

The Wind and the Lion. Connery was unconvincing, purely because of his thick Scottish brogue. Otherwise it was a ripping adventure romance. The Islamic elements were… interesting. Strange how attitudes have shifted and you can’t help but think of Al Qaeda etc.

Attention all fans of Mad Max

Bellflower (2011) - unusual independent movie about two guys, who are big fans of this movie and especially of Lord Humungus (character from Road Warrior) and they are building a functional flame-thrower and badass muscle car in which they are going to wander through wasteland (if apocalypse will occur)

this whole idea could seem somewhat trivial at first sight, but wait until the flamethrower is constructed - you´ll see what i mean
of course, movie is more than this MM stuff, it´s focused on these two characters and their friendship and also relationships with other people
it starts as almost romantic movie but ends in tragedy and broken dreams
if you are not into MM, you probably you don´t take it at all, but if you are, it´s a must-watch

CALIFORNIA SPLIT - Expected a bit more gambling action, however the film was based more on examining the two main characters and their way of life. I had a feeling that the ending would be bitter and sad, but, no, this time the gamblers win triumphantly
and take it all. Another great perfomance by Gould who talks unstoppably whenever he is on screen. Not the best Altman I’ve seen, but well worth a watch.

“Jonah Hex” this starts off ok but around the middle it goes downhill and just becomes a mess. 5/10

Dead Leaves - chaotic and purposefully sloppy anime about two aliens that land on earth, immediately kill a couple of thousand people then are send to a prison full of deformed cyborg alien creatures on the moon where they cause a massive riot/breakout. I really enjoyed the hell out of this, its one of those things where a couple of animators imaginations go overboard with no restraint and it’s just fucking beautiful in the end, has sort of a Bill Plympton feel to it. 4 out of 5

Death Wish 3 - I shouldn’t have to say anything, this is the best film ever made. I mean, Citizen Kane, sure it’s GOOD, but it’s not Death Wish 3. If you have only seen Hobo With A Shotgun but have yet to see this movie you better get your shit together before you’re humiliated in public by someone with taste. Bronson at this point is apparently no longer an architect but a wandering dealer of death making money off dead thugs and rapists he blows away, he wanders into the most fucked up blown up apocalyptic section of New York and wages war on sewer dwelling scumbags and movie costume designer punks that only existed in 80s action movies. Why this is the best Death Wish is that its no longer solemn stalking sessions ending with either a cold kill or a near miss but all out war and goddamn this movie is fucking nuts and over the top as hell. At one point Bronson starts hunting thug rapist purse snatchers with a fucking modified elephant gun pistol and he even shoots a guy point blank with a grenade launcher. 5 out of 5

Death Wish 4: The Crackdown - This one is nice and gory and funny as hell, I was surprised at how good it was, I figured this would be a series that dwindled as it went on but actually 3 and 4 might be the best of the series. Bronson goes about killing drug dealers pitting two rival gangs against each other and shooting shitloads of people, then you know shooting more people. One of the main rules of this series is that any women that are around Bronson at any point in their life whether they’re mom’s dating them, they’re the maid, they said thanks to him when he held the door for them at the grocery store, they will get horribly raped and murdered in a gruesome fashion. 4 out of 5

Death Wish 2 - Well sadly its no Death Wish 3, but its still a classic, has two good sweaty rape scenes and plenty of hateful brutal shootings to go around. It also has a scene where guy gets shocked to death, so they put fans under his face to make his long hair blow/stand upwards, that alone makes it better than 90% of cinemas output since 1980. 3 out of 5
