But I know Sherp, I live among the PIIGS so yes I know, got no one else to blame than us, but the reasons why we end up like this well that is a long history.
Funny cause its the same we are feeling now about those who live in the Autonomic region Of Madeira with their 6 billions (more or less zeros) euro debt.

It’s always the same, wherever people live, whoever they are, they always manage to find a small group op people (usually living in a remote area, of a different colour, or speaking a different language) who can be blamed for the sh… the country is in.

Enough philosophy for the day (well, it’s almost over)

The good thing about us is that we do not make many waves (or if we do its war), people just go away to work in other places and everybody is leaving the country these days nothing new then, in a way is what happening to me (only for me its in a interruped way), I had so less worries in my cinema office days.

What the fuc…, at least there are some people that are gaining a lot with this all economic situation, good for them

As for me going to watch Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis under Sherp’s advise
Yeah yeah, but you should know what we say about people from Portugal or the South of Spain.
What’s that?

If I explain myself, I’ll be banned. Horrible things, Yodlaf, horrible things.

This one was surprisingly successful in Germany.

It was incredibly successful in France: it did even better at the box-office than AmÊlie Poulain and those De Funès-Bourvil classics from the sixties like La Grande Vadrouille and Le Corniaud .

The Black Cat (34’) and Tower of London (62’). Boris Karloff looks sooo creepy in The Black Cat! Theres one scene that I imagine must have been controversial back then… Considering its from 1934 its still a very entertaining movie. Vincent Price was excellent in Tower of London. Although of the movies I’ve seen he did with Roger Corman its my least favorite. Its just like a one man show for Price. There are no other interesting characters. If your a fan of his definitely worth checking out

Bit surprised myself when I first viewed this one re this. Not a favourite Oates film for me, but like the ending.

COCKFIGHTER - Not as exploitative as the title suggests<

Were you expecting dueling penises? JK

Sisters In Leather wasn’t exactly Pernod and escargot either.

Haha, no that would be too much from a man like Monte Hellman. I was implying that there was more than disturbing cockfights in the film.

ENNIOO, this is in no way my favorite Oates perfomance, but he was pretty good. The ending sums up what Oates’ character is. Liked Harry Dean Stanton as well. Too bad Laurie Bird doesn’t have so much screen time as in Two-Lane Blacktop, very charming lady.

Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis 2008 Dany Boon

And I really can understand why, one of those little films that is almost impossible not to like. It starts with a very common ideia and simple story that developed into a a very funny and sympathetic film, for several reasons. For once the charactehers are all very real and easy to relate to, the story of average and normal people (no super-heroes, police/detective work with people shooting everything in sight, no ninja stuff so) is easily pleasent, there are lots of situations in the film that most people have lived more or less in a similar way, for instance the one when they have dinner in the restaurant, with the boss speech trying to speak like the local people, but many others. The humour is very soft not the slapstick type of comedy, even the romantic story is likeable and well done, also the scene when they delivered the mail by bicycle and have a drink in every house is indeed quite funny.
The acting is pretty good also with special kudos to the main actor Ked Merad great acting.
So I really liked wish they made more films like this one, good for a family viewing without being stupid or excessively dramatic.

La Nostra Vita (2010, Daniele Luchetti)

Nice little ‘Italissimo’ movie, the title refers to a song by Eros Ramazotti, about the love people share in a ugly world. And that’s also what this film is about: it’s about a young couple who live happily, (but not happily ever after) with their two children, a third on its way, in an ugly world. It all falls apart when the young woman dies while giving birth to this third baby. The young man, a construction worker, makes all the bad decisions, even fails to visit his wife’s grave, so people start thinking he’s a self-obsessed asshole. In the end he manages to put his affairs in order with the help of his family. Like his sister says, when he tells her she looks good on those high-heeled shoes:

“High heels are like the family, they may be a nuisance, but they help …”

You might be tempted to think it’s a melodrama, but it isn’t, there are a couple of very emotional scenes, but overall it’s remarkably restrained, some may even find it a bit cold and aloof. It’s not a perfect movie, but it’s worth watching, if only for a magnificent performance by Elio Germano, who was awarded in Cannes, and deservedly so. Raoul Bova is also very good as Germano’s older, socially handicapped brother.

I finally watched HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN. The film from the very first scenes feels like a comic-book transfer, Hauer seems to take his role a bit more seriously than he should though. The broad use of foul language and the over-the-top killings and villains work good enough up to some point, however in the end I got somehow tired of it. Good for a 1,5 h of brainless fun, nothing more, nothing less.

Started one of the Resident Evil movies yesterday but I gave up after 30 minutes or so. Boring crap.

More vigilantism today, DEATH WISH. Forgot how great the score is on this one.

Viewed a clip on Youtube re Deathwish 2 recently and this woman is trying to ruffle Michael Winner…but no such luck ;D :

Very funny, she gets so angry that she’s making a complete fool of herself with her last statement
Saying that a rape scene is not ‘realistic’ because the actress playing the victim wasn’t actually raped, is not a very smart thing either. What’s next? People complaining that the actor was allowed to keep his head in a execution scene?
