The Last Film You Saw in the Cinema?

I went with a friend and her husband to see The Last Voyage of the Demeter when it came to theaters in July. I’ve always been a Dracula fan, and years ago I had the opportunity to read the book with a former spouse. The chapters about the ill-fated vessel that bring Dracula to England are harrowing and gripping. Not with Last Voyage of the Demeter. Last Voyage takes too many liberties with what is not talked about in the ship captain’s found log book. The result was disappointing and too contrived in my opinion. I’ll take Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula over Last Voyage any day of the week.

It’s one of mine now too! I ordered the 4K blu ray of it the next day so I could check out the (not as good) longer cut!

So, the extended version was not so good?

Not dreadful, but no reason to watch it over the theatrical. All it does is ruin the pacing which makes some of the jokes less funny. It’s worth at least one watch to see the extended versions of some of the songs but that’s about it.

Good to know!

People wish they enjoyed OUATITW as much as we do, but they lack the finesse to do so.

I finished watching the extended version of the Blues Brothers, and the regular version flows much better. The extra scenes don’t add to the humor. They’re just obvious strips of cinematic fat to be trimmed.

The films of Martin Scorsese, who will be eighty-one next November, have been with me since I was a teenager, and they have always represented to me the epitome of good American mainstream cinema. Of course, I secretly hoped Scorsese would make a Western someday. Killers of the Flower Moon is anything but a Western, rather it once again tells the never-ending story of evil, greedy white men whose racist worldview provides them with the justification to oppress, steal, and kill. Based upon historical events—the Osage Indian murders, the so-called Reign of Terror, in the 1910s and 1920s—the film brings back to life a sad, sad episode of American history, turned into great cinema by Scorsese.

I’m afraid that it is not only “white men” who hold this viewpoint…not now nor at any point in history. They are just the popular villains these days.

How very, very true…

My favourite day of the year last night, the annual Halloween Horror Night at my favourite cinema. Started at 10pm and got home to bed at about 8am :joy:. They had 4 categories this year: Sequels Do It Better, Space Invaders, Mystery Grindhouse and Book of the Dead.

My first film was a Mystery Grindhouse and it ended up being a really crazy Indonesian movie from the directors of Lady Terminator, called Mystics in Bali. Awful English dubbing and shonky VFX made this so much fun to watch with a crowed.

Second was Tobe Hooper’s Lifeforce - on a pristine 35mm print! Never seen this but I fucking loved it. So much crazy overacting but plenty of genuinely awesome camera work and special effects. My favourite of the night!

Third was a Sequels Do It Better and it ended up being Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors - also on a lovely 35mm print. Have seen this one before but no complaints to me as it’s a great slasher and it was awesome to see it on a print.

Final film was another Mystery Grindhouse which was Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2. My least favourite of the night but still pretty fun. Take a while to get to the goofy fun parts but me and all my friends still had a great time!

Oh come on, three and a half hours … :cowboy_hat_face::grimacing::face_with_spiral_eyes::cowboy_hat_face:

… for a story that could’ve been told in two and a half, just as well. Or at least give us an intermission, Ms Schoonmaker

My thoughts exactly. It’s too long. Sitting in a cinema seat for more than two hours is something I find very challenging. But to my surprise, I made it through Killers of the Flower Moon without a restroom break.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” is my favorite film of 2023. I loved the story and was so sucked into it that I did not mind the length. I like the new direction Scorsese has taken with this and “The Irishman”, because you feel so immersed in them. They´re not stories, they´re journeys.

Five Nights at Freddy’s
Just returned home from the cinema, we watched it with two of my friends. The film has gotten very bad ratings and mixed reviews but we loved it.
The story and characters have been changed a little from the games so the movie isn’t directly in line with the story of the games. As a huge fnaf fan, I hoped that it would have followed the game lore more closely, but this worked really well.
8 years of waiting was totally worth it. I can’t wait for Fnaf 2 film

As a huge Martin Scorsese fan, all the Killers of the Flower Moon talk is convincing me to go see it.

The last I saw was “A Haunting in Venice” in late September. I really liked it a lot. I’ve been a fan of that series, starting with “Murder on the Orient Express”. Kenneth Branagh’s stuff has really grown on me. I really love his Frankenstein movie. But I highly recommend “A Haunting in Venice” to anyone who likes a straightforward eerie mystery done with style.

Spaghetti western fans appreciate style.

Saw it a few days ago. Magnificent movie. Really didn’t feel like 3.5 hours long to me.
