Yes - I just checked on You Tube ‘cuisine internationale’ don’t need to be fluent in Italian to know that.

I can’t get closed captions but it sounds like the English language is a direct translation of the Italian. Unlike the dialogue in the 161m cut which was Anglicised by Mickey Knox so it sounded more natural in English ( for example Angel Eyes to Stevens is ‘Bella familia’ in Italian which becomes ‘Nice family’ in English rather than ‘Beautiful family’). I also found the dialogue in the grotto scene less ‘natural’ than in most of the other scenes and now I know why. Probably a direct translation also.

The stuff with summer vacation spot doesn’t sound unnatural language wise though?

Here’s Victor Israel’s lines translated from the Italian dub: “If you’re looking for a holiday resort, well, you’ve found it. Luxurious hotel full of comforts. International cuisine. Healthy and nutritious food. And the attractions don’t end there. Southern-style corn cobs. Supplied without expense by our government. As you can see, they treat us well.”

All the added scenes in the extended English dub are more or less direct translations of the Italian. Although as mentioned above, without Mickey Knox’s input the language seems a bit anachronistic in parts (‘international cuisine’, ‘summer vacation spot’ etc).

Anachronistic means that it is a wrong thing for the time period, whether it’s vacation spot or holiday resort doesn’t matter.

Anyway, thanks for the translation.

But the point was he sounds like he describes a 1960s package holiday with nice hotel and restaurant, which is out of place in a 1860s setting.

You’ve got the wrong end of the stick. The Italian dub is anachronistic hence the English dub too - as it’s a direct translation.

I didn’t mean just the english dub was anachronistic, when I posted I didn’t know what it was in italian, but like I said I suspected it was something similar.

That is true, and it sounds a little better in italian, the english translation in the film sounds more 1960s, like it was a common thing in the 1860s but now we have a war instead.

A question, I’m curious.

Stanton says he only watches the Dollars film with their German dub.

Are the German dubs on various DVD and Bluray for GBU the original mono or did they make 5.1 remix with newer sounding gunshots, et cetera?

There is a “reworked German audio track” on one of the releases, what does this mean?

Pretty sure this refers to the fact that the GBU extended cut had of course to be filled up with new speakers to make up for dialogue that was never dubbed before. According to some reviews, it’s a sloppy job and some dialogue is missing in other places now…

Driving on the highway in Ireland last weekend I encountered a truck decorated all across the front with images of Tuco, Blondie and Angel Eyes labelled with their GBU titles!

Glad to see SWs still out there in everyday life!
