Firstly. I’m at a point now where I have been through my worse, both via heartache and tribulations in the past few years.
I lost another brother yesterday, due to a brain tumour…so three of us Toscanos left.
That’s why I find a lifeline in comedy. It’s my way of coping.
That’s fine…It’s probably just me, but I think I may have a problem with telling bad jokes and puns.
I like to see people smiling, having fun etc…and I’m content with a chuckle.
And then we have the ones who snicker and exclaim ‘That’s a Dad joke’. They groan, moan…and it’s basically a way of saying “you are a pain in the arse, but we put up with you.”
I have to admit, that that particular comment destroys a person, and shoots them down…because it is basically saying that you are shit.
Even on the spot puns and jokes are shit…they are Dad jokes.
Just thought I’d mention it…because I try my best to put a smile on other peoples faces…even when I feel sad and shit myself.
I am at that age, where I really want to leave something good behind me…laughs preferably…
No problem with your jokes. I understand the (sometimes black) humor and the usage of it. After the cancer of my wife (luckily she is cured) we both developed a kind of black humor that is not always understood by others.
“Dad jokes” can be seen as a compliment as well. Our daughter has sometimes the same remark when I make one, and then we both laugh about it.
So keep your head up and keep me smiling with your comedy
I totally get where you’re coming from @Toscano, we all have our ways of coping, a good laugh now and again does help. That you look to make others feel better even when you get hit with sad news is quite commendable and chivalrous in a way. I do hope when you do make others smile in those times it takes a little of the hurt away. Keep the jokes coming amigo, even the corny ones are appreciative
So having been exposed to Windows 11 for a few months now, I’ve finally decided to switch to Linux Mint. It runs twice as fast right out of the box and now that Linux requires about the same number of tweaks Windows does, except that Windows now actively undoes all your tweaks every time it updates itself, there is no reason to stay on Windows, at least for me. With Linux, it’s like going back to the 2000s era of computing, but with the benefit of SSDs and performance boost, it’s a breeze. Performance-wise, there is no comparison really and most of the stuff I want on my OS runs fine on Linux anyways. The use of command line is sporadic at worst, you can do most of the stuff via Linux’s GUI anyhow. And that’s not mentioning all the adware, bloatware, malware, spyware and ransomware behavior baked into Windows 11; considering the US’s overbearing foreign policy in recent years, it’s become a genuine liability, might as well send your dick pics directly to Alex Karp now instead of going through the extra hoops.
The only thing that I have been grappling with is that my Panasonic bluray player does not work all that well with my pen-drives formatted to exFAT and Linux’s implementation of NTFS is somewhat problematic, I’ve purchased Xiaomi’s TV box to take care of that, we will see how it goes.
Overall, if you are a Windows user, I would think twice or thrice or quadrice (I know it isn’t a real word, but it should be) before upgrading, it’s more like a downgrade at this point, you’re merely enabling Microsoft to use your machine so that they can steal your data, passwords etc. whilst conspicuously degrading user experience and performance of your computer. It’s like a combination of Windows 8.0’s (dis)comfort of usage and Windows 10’s telemetry and spying, except that the latter is on massive steroids. So stay on whatever Windows version you are using for as long as you can and test Windows 11 to see if it suits you, otherwise you’re in for a real headache.
And the ocean of AI slop, it just never ends, they just keep ramming it down your fucking throat along with the ads, beyond infuriating.
Like many other people, I was more or less willing to overlook some of its flaws because you could always customize it to your liking and disregard some of its rough edges because the OS wouldn’t get in your way all the time like it does now. Now its awfulness has become so pervasive and in-your-face there is no point in sticking around, especially now given that Linux has become so polished and user-friendly. And most importantly, I think throughout the years Windows users have overestimated how easy it is to deal with Windows, what with its notorious issues with audio drivers and the likes that just don’t exist on Linux at all. I will continue to use Windows at work because of software compatibility and so forth, but there is no way I’m upgrading to 11 because it’s utter dogshit. And using Windows 11 on a private machine is just masochism at this point.
Plus, what most people don’t realize: for 99% of things people do, it doesn’t even matter anyway, which system you use, because let’s be honest, you power up your machine and open a web browser and do stuff in there mostly. The rest of the stuff exists on all systems: your messenger, email client, etc. I am a hard advocate for Linux because it frees you from the shackles of corporate dictatorship, it makes your machine really yours. Apple says “we’re not supporting pre 2015 devices anymore on our new OS” and boom, there goes your 1500 euro investment in that machine, so you have to buy a new one. Linux you can just put on anything, including an old Nintendo Gameboy (probably) and it’ll run as long as it has electricity
Pretty much this. The ONLY, and I really mean, the ONLY reason why people have put up with Windows for so long is because of its wide software compatibility. Windows 11 sucks so fucking much, looks like a nerfed/castrated version of Mac; why use a neutered copy when you can get an original, it’s probably a lot less bloated too.

My fav was George G. Gilman…and the iconic character called ‘Edge’. I grew up with reading about this character, and these adventures kept me sane from the excretable life that I had at school at the time.
Thank Goodness for ‘Edge’, or I wouldn’t have turned on my tormentor at school, and threatened to kill him, if he ever again laid a hand on me.
It worked…because he stayed clear of me.
I was never bullied from that moment on, by anyone else.

I hit back because it was a combination of watching ‘The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly’ on TV in 1976, and also reading the ‘Edge’ paperbacks.
to me, I just read Louis Lamour 2 books of him and two Westerns Novels from Montgomery Ford (known as Brett Halsey) Louis Lamour was translated in french but Reading in English the Westerns Novels of Brett was great too this is the Westerns books collection of my Father that he gave me for Christmas

My brother was buried today, back on the Isle of Man, where we were all were born, and grew up.
I’ve just been remembering, and came up with a few thoughts, which I hope you don’t mind me sharing.
if we remain true to ourselves, then we hold on to, love, cherish, and appreciate who we were born to be.
We cling on to the hurt, the disappointments, the loves won and lost, the achievements, failures,
mountains traversed, and heights we fell from, and the tonnage of emotion that made us who we presently are…
This is just another thought…
Occasionally, should we, on a daily basis, ask ourselves this: “'despite the life-long baggage that I have accumulated, am I strong enough to carry on with just a back-pack…?”
If not…and how dire the circumstances…there is always forward, rather than backward.
A few years ago, my late brother used to say “Onward and upward”. He said that to me when I was divorced, and his advice rings true even more now.
Thank you for sharing your profound thoughts and experiences here. Even if we cannot always grasp everything in life right away – let alone understand it – I am convinced that we will live our lives forwards and understand them backwards. Not every experience, not every pain and not every success is understood by us at the moment it happens. It often takes time to understand the connections and what significance it has for us and our environment.
I’d love for that to happen but I’ve got a gut feeling they probably weren’t massive hitters for them. With 88 films releasing Shango I hope that opens the doors for them to release some more.
Yes a great writer. So many great movie & tv adaptations of his work. Josey Wales is a great read one of my favourites. Black horse westerns are good Rory Black’s Iron Eyes. William W Johnstone is another favourite and the graphic audio version of his books are brilliant like MacCallister and Slash & Pecos. Still reading Blood Meridian as well, cheers.
