That is a real pisser … I had noticed many advertised multi region Blu ray machines, that play all region DVD only.
I have just a few USA discs, mainly Kino Lorber, and they can be played with an old Panasonic Blu Ray, that I picked up for about a fiver … You need to fiddle a bit with the remote control, but it works and manages to skip the region warning.
Not much you can use this info to now but if region A is what you needed to be able to play you could just buy a blu-ray player from the States and a power converter. That’s what I did.
My academic adventures have brought me to the point where I’m starting to write my MA thesis. My topic is songs in Spaghetti Western. I’ll compare the Italian and English theme songs to each other, but my main focus is on the English lyrics due to my lack of Italian skills The main point is to see how the songs are connected to the films, how the English versions differ from the Italian ones, and in addition, I’ll also analyze the clumsy English and grammatical errors found in some of the songs.
A question that bugs me is how to figure out which version is the original and which translation or if they’ve been written separately. I guess in the cases where only the English version is in the film and the Italian is only on the OST, the English version would be the original since it was used in the film after all
Thoughts, information, tips and sources are always welcome
So sorry this happened to you @Phil_H, that’s a real stinker. May I ask where you purchased the player from? As the owner of three Region Free players, two Blu Ray and one 4K, I can say that research and looking over every option is key to good players. You never, I repeat - never, want to buy them 2nd hand or “refurbished” refurbished especially screams at the top of the lungs that someone amateurishly modified the play
There’s two major companies, both here in the States, 220-Electronics and Bombay Electronics, that specialize in Region Free players. They’ve both been in business for 30 plus years and have some of the best ratings of both fans and business critics. All their employees have years of training and experience in making sure all the players are modified correctly and aren’t compromised on longevity use.
Also, the usual method, usually with Sony players, is the yellow button makes the player Region A, the blue button is Region B, and the red button is Region C. And always make sure to press the button before closing the player to play the disc.
Lastly, an always important rule, with electronics, never go for the really inexpensive stuff, it’s often very cheaply done.
Hope this helps everyone on Region Free Player buying.
I think the mistake I made was two-fold. Firstly, thinking that multi-region would mean all regions. Secondly, thinking that Region A would include Region A North America. Ah well, we live and learn. Just hope this helps someone else avoid the same mistakes.
Hey Amigos and Amigas, I finally have a paid writing gig going on for the website Taste of Cinema, contributing film lists. Besides a straight salary, I get 5 dollars US for every 10,000 views. Here’s the first two I did, one of them is on our favorite genre, I hope you like it.
Interesting news on a Swedish news site on the internet, here translated to English “British hunting teams trade foxes for cross-country runners The law against fox hunting in Great Britain is to be further tightened. Soon it will be illegal to hunt scent tracks with bloodhounds. Therefore, hunting enthusiasts have found a more humane alternative - they hunt cross-country runners. Dogs and riders set off after a group of volunteer hunting prey in neon green jackets, who run as far as they can. “We were pleasantly surprised by how much fun it is,” says one participant.”
