Talk Whatever

Saturday night and Sunday night television here in the U.S. is complete garbage. That is why the wife and I decided to watch a movie last night but she needed to make a quick run to the grocery first before we started. While she was gone, I sat in my recliner mindlessly flipping through channels when I paused for a minute on the Magnum P. I. reboot (originality in Hollywood is on life support at best).

A few seconds later, the modern day Rick (who had been apparently living with the modern day Magnum) tells the modern day Higgins (portrayed by the extremely cute Perdita Weeks) that by moving out he will not longer be subjected to “spaghetti western Wednesdays”. Another lady in the room asked what a spaghetti western is and Higgins was more than happy to provide a very nice explanation. It is then that we learn that every Wednesday night Magnum watches a spaghetti western.

I just found this to be a bit surprising as well as a bit humorous. And, it forced me to admit that the modern day Magnum can’t be all bad if he has a day of the week devoted to spaghetti westerns.

Maybe ‘Magnum’ can have an episode where we just watch over his shoulder on ‘Spaghetti Western Wednesday’ … give the rest of the cast and crew etc the time off? :cowboy_hat_face:

BTW: There’s a derogatory reference to SWs by Roger Moore’s character, ‘Lord Brett Sinclair’ in ‘The Persuaders’ … it’s the episode with Joan Collins … which links me nicely to Roger’s biography were he tells a story about this episode and how Joan and Tony Curtis were not getting on … and so Tony so frustrated with Joan’s diva-esque antics, calls her a cunt LOL … seems I got sidetracked, but ‘oldies’ do that … ‘My Word is My Bond’ a very funny book.

If they did that, I would probably watch the show.

Not the first time I’ve heard something similar about Joan. Maybe she really wasn’t such a pleasant person. I’ve looking for something fun to read. That sounds like that will fit the bill nicely.

Totally agree. A fantastic read. Roger recounting the Tony Curtis/Joan Collins incident was hilarious.

Roger’s follow-up, ‘Last Man Standing - Tales From Tinseltown’ is also a thoroughly engaging read.

Sir Roger is sorely missed…
This year marks the 50th anniversary of his first Bond adventure, 1973’s ‘Live and Let Die’.

Loved Roger … a great fella. Must check his ‘Last Man Standing’ - thank you for the recommendation

Finally going 4K! Just won a Panasonic DP-UB450EB for £103 on eBay. Now to find that lovely Arrow Django 4K for a reasonable price…

I deduced that you had upgraded when I saw all your 4K purchases.

How was your poncho purchase btw?

Well it’s been a month and it still hasn’t dispatched . I disputed it with my bank and got my money back but I did get an email today saying it’s handmade so it will take a while to dispatch, so it may turn up later. Doubtful though. I knew it was a gamble when I ordered but I’ll post again if it somehow turns up.

Busy with assignments tonight but gonna check out Cannibal Holocaust in 4K tomorrow then I think it’s finally time to pop in that The Good The Bad and The Ugly 4K that’s been sitting on my shelf for over a year :tada:

Seems appropriate…

‘Herman’s Hermits’ were such a brill UK band…One of my teachers at school on the ‘Isle of Man’, over 40 years ago, said that he had once taught Peter Noone, the lead singer.

I love it when a classic UK band makes a re-appearance, and are obliviously enjoying every moment of still being remembered and loved.

I remember attending a ‘Sixties’ evening on the ‘IoM’ in 2001…Gerry Marsden, The Searchers, The Swinging Blue Jeans, and Peter Sarsdedt…what a wonderful evening.

Love these guys…

Had to add this…Peter Noone still rocking…!

I’m sure this has been brought it many times in the past on here, but I’m curious about what everyone’s favourite and least favourite Bond films are. The one thing with Bond films I seem to see is that almost everyone has a different favourite.

For me, it’s easily On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Although I don’t think Lazenby is the greatest Bond ever, I do think he gives it a great go and I think does some of the better emotional scenes in the entirety of the franchise. I just love the general vibe of it too, and not to mention it has one of my all-time favourite movie themes:

My runners-up would be Casino Royale, Goldfinger, Man with the Golden Gun, and GoldenEye.

For my least favourites it’s a tie between Spectre and Never Say Never Again. Both just simply dreadful messes imo.

Favorites are Goldfinger, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Diamonds Are Forever, Live and Let Die, and Skyfall.

Least favorite? Anything with Pierce Brosnan. He was just awful.

It’s difficult for me to choose my favourite but I think my top five would be:

From Russia With Love
You Only Live Twice
The Living Daylights
The Spy Who Loved Me
Live and Let Die

I like all the Bond actors, including Lazenby, but Timothy Dalton is definitely my favourite.

Die Another Day, Never Say Never and No Time to Die

I think he was brilliant in the role and he made two excellent Bond films, Goldeneye and The World is Not Enough, but was unfortunate enough to be in the worst of all time, Die Another Day.

Wow, that’s a first! Although I don’t enjoy his films as much as any of the other Bonds, I always thought he was the most Bond-like. I thought he had a great balance between the cheeky-ness of Connery and Moore combined with the more serious tone that Craig would bring.

Absolutely … he acts like a poser, vain, arrogant, in love with himself … Hate the guy, total wanker!

Okay, here we go. Brosnan, of course, first gained massive fame in the TV show Remington Steele. As soon as I first saw that show, I said to myself that he would make an excellent Bond and I was extremely excited when he was finally chosen to play him. But then, the first movie came out and once I saw it, I realized that he wasn’t playing James Bond but instead the character Remington Steele had suddenly become a super spy.

Admittedly, there are similarities between the two characters but Brosnan didn’t seem to be able to separate them - in my opinion. And, unfortunately, that never changed. Brosnan himself thinks that he was a horrible Bond and, of all the stuff he has done, these are the films he refuses to go back and watch again. Why? By his own admission, he hated playing Bond. He was essentially going through the motions and I think it shows in every frame. Toss in the fact that these films are just way over the top (even for Bond films) with their action and I feel that they are just horrible…horrible films.

My wife is a massive Bond fan. And I do mean massive. When we first met, we bonded over all things Bond (See what I did there? I crack myself up. :joy:). Anything Bond related she can find, she owns. She has ready every book and seen each movie so many times that she has no idea how many times she has seen them - except the Brosnan films. She has seen each of them exactly twice - once because it is a Bond film and a second time to make sure she disliked them as much as she did the first time around. Her dislike is not to be taken lightly. This is someone that always has a Bond movie on for background noise as she works at her computer each day.

Well fair enough! I must admit Brosnan really got the bad luck of the draw with easily the worst movies, but I don’t personally think they suck because of him. Do you even hate GoldenEye? I know most people think that’s one of the best Bond films.
