- Damiani: A Rope for a Bastard
-A rare detective type western. Sadly a very dull one, the revelation of the killer in the end was a surprising one but very stupid idea. 3/10
13:‘In the Dust of the Sun’ (1972) French/Spanish Co Production - another Spag’ loosely based on Hamlet … with sex, nudity and a lead character who’s literally a ‘Motherfucker’ played by this little weed, Daniel Beretta
It’s not exactly good … but it keeps you wondering what’ll happen next.
… and this guy, Bob Cunningham, plays the most detestable, kill him now, asshole I’ve ever seen in a Spaghetti, or almost any other genre. From that point of view, this is a hidden gem. 6/10
Print is from a French VHS with added English dub.
14:‘A Coffin for the Sheriff’ (1965)
I’ve been avoiding this for some time now, but figured it had to be done. Just a little dull and full of clichés … way too many riding along shots to pad out the thin storyline. Anthony Steffen does his usual party piece … really nothing much more to say about this one … doesn’t even have any remarkable signage to comment on.
4/10
… that awkward moment at the urinal when you just can’t go!
15:‘Gentleman Killer’ (1967)
Here’s a rare thing … a really enjoyable Anthony Steffen western - He seems more at home playing the ‘Dandy’ type character, and he actually gives a good performance … Eduardo Fajardo as the crazy ‘Colonel Ferreres’ is hilarious and brilliant. I’d seen this before and it’s still very entertaining on 2nd viewing. Special mention to a great Bruno Nicolai score … really gets the blood pumping
7/10
- Parolini: If you meet Sartana, pray for your Death
-I watched the Arrow’s bluray for the first time and wow, after seeing this film from crappy vhs-rips and rather crappy dvd releases it finally looks good. 7/10
Spagvemberfest 2019 - Day 13
White Comanche (Mendez / 1968)

It’s the Shat Jim, but not as we know it!
Another previously unopened disc today. This time the UK Odeon release of the legend that is White Comanche. The film that delivers two Shats for the price of one. Picture quality on this is ok but no better than you’d expect on a £3 new DVD. As for the quality of the film…well to be fair it is the shirtless Comanche Shat which is the bad bit. The traditional American western good guy Shat is ok. If the’d concentrated on that and the big bosses feud storyline the film would have been a whole lot better, less laughable but probably a bit more boring.
Will you be attempting this one via your cheapo box set challenge last.caress?
Never heard about it before and cannot find it anywhere.
No sir, but I wish I was. I’ve come to love White Comanche (with my “bad movie lover” head on rather than with my “spag lover” head on, of course). Double Shat, with one Shat playing “No, ta”, the world’s pinkest native American? Is it even possible to describe a better movie? Name me one single movie in all of cinematic history that wouldn’t be improved immeasurably by Double Shat. I’ll wait.
SPAGVEMBERFEST 2019: DAY 13
No, today I’m going spag-but-not-really-a-spag with another American icon altogether, in the shape of Four Rode Out (Peyser, 1970), starring The Naked Gun himself, Leslie Nielsen. Surely I don’t mean to watch the whole thing? I DO mean to watch the whole thing, and don’t call me Shirley.

Joe has survived the apocalypse and finally arrived at the Database gate. In disguise, so many thought it was Hannibal ad portas (some even thought it was @Phil_H)!

Why do those milkers look like volleyballs? ![]()
AFAIK, Aldo is one of the CG cool kids which explains it all. I used to be a CG cool kid too, but I did not reseed my downloads enough and my account got discontinued. What a moron I am.
BTW, I suppose I have officially joined the SpagvemberFest, since I’ve already watched a few spags over the past couple of days. I’m travelling tomorrow, so I won’t be able to watch too many then, but I hope to resume as soon as possible.
I will share my thoughts in a longer post once I’ve watched about ten or twenty of them, we’ll see.
Thanks very much! LOL ![]()

14. His Name Was Pot… They Called Him Allegria (1971)

My fourth and last Fidani for now. At least it seems Fidani took a hand in the directing here. I cannot believe they were sober making this. Speaking of assholes, if you want a peek at Peter Martell’s, this is your chance…
1,5/10
Is the picture quality better than the versions that occasionally turn up on TV? I have White Comanche in a fairly poor, cropped off-air copy and would fork our for an upgrade
15. Four Rode Out (1970)

Crossing paths with @last.caress here. An American spaghetti western chamber play set I the desert of Almeria. And a female lead, too. I think perhaps the film’s page got the story not entirely right. Watched a 96 min MP4. DVD suggestions?
7/10
Spent my usual afternoon film time with my Dad setting up the LED lights inside my TV Stand in my Man Cave (I’ll be showing you guys some pics sometime before the Holidays), so I decided to check out Johnny Oro via the YouTube channel Film&Clips.
Definitely not in the pantheon of the greats, but still a fun watch. I like the fun aspects to Mark Damon’s Westerns; not as stylish as Castellari’s, but still good. The last half hour or so is very “High Noon” ish, but Ettore Manni is almost too honest as a lawman.
- Petroni: Death Rides a Horse
-I had not watched this one in ages. John Philip Law wasn’t actually that wooden as I remembered but the english dubbing made him sound kinda stupid. Law has some good moments but whenever Lee van Cleef is on the screen the film turns to pure gold. Such an amazing actor. 8/10
Why did the filmmakers go with that dumb redneck voice !??? … He does sound like an idiot - in the intervening years after the massacre of his family, was little JPL raised by the cast of ‘Deliverance’ ! ![]()
Haven’t seen this one on TV so can’t really say.
The quality is ok but no better than you’d expect for a cheap release. I only paid £3 for it brand new so not too much of a risk.
Spagvemberfest 2019 - Day 14
A Barrel Full of Dollars (Fidani / 1971)

One of Fidani’s best I think and a good vehicle for Jeff Cameron to show off his impressive jump/dive/roll and shoot skills. His roll around a tethering post to shoot move was particularly cool. Apart from that of course it is a film largely populated by stuntmen acting …well…like stuntmen, with only Jack Betts and Kinski signed up as real actors and Kinski was on one of his starring roles with 2 days work gigs.
The Koch release of this film is really good. There are a bunch of far better films in circulation that have not got anything like this quality a release and shows what can be done if you care enough.
SPAGVEMBERFEST 2019: DAY 14
Ooh, I’m quite looking forward to this one. Today, it’s Find a Place to Die (Carnimeo, 1968) starring Star Trek’s original Captain Pike, the tragic Jeffrey Hunter (also of The Searchers of course). General consensus seems to be that this isn’t a bad picture by any means.
