Soundtrack News

Typically just when I begin collecting again the ‘new’ scores start popping up again  Quartet Records is releasing the score for Requiem per un Gringo:

Replaces the 26 year old score that only had around 14 tracks with this 32 track wonder.

Yeah saw that but I’m only reporting the spaghetti western releases  Euro westerns are not really in my sphere of interest

May have been reported elsewhere but this was news to me  Alhambra has released the scores for Gli uomini dal passo pesante and Zorro il ribelle both by Angelo Francesco Lavagnino on cd. Limited to 400 copies which really is a lot these days  Both scores never released before it seems.

I’ve just bought this much welcome CD from ‘Amazon UK’.

Complete, expanded, unadulterated excellence… courtesy of ‘Il Maestro’, Ennio Morricone.

A musical tribute to a legendary composer, actor, and director…

I debated for a long time about whether to buy this for such a high price…but, in the end, it was a no-brainer - and I’m so very happy that I did.

This is Ennio Morricone at his best, for two of Giuliano Gemma’s finest SWs.

The extra tracks make this an absolute must-buy…

For me, buying this CD album was not only about reliving nostalgia from my youth…it was also about remembering how wonderful it used to be…when you didn’t have computers to ‘examine’ everything. You had (if you were lucky) the rare SW book, the occasional SW on TV…

It was special, because it was limited as to what was available…and that made it a ‘Christmas come early’ when you did discover the occasional pic. of Eastwood, Van Cleef etc.

Forty years ago, I bought this LP (see below) …simply because I fell in love Morricone’s music, after watching (and hearing) ‘The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly’ in 1976…

Back to this ‘Pistol/Ringo’ CD…
I suppose it depends on how much you like the Gemma ‘Ringo’ films, as to how much these scores affect your own listening experience…I absolutely worship them.
The scores perfectly compliment the action and drama on-screen, and each cue masterfully conjures up a world of sneering bandits, gorgeous ladies, and fast-talking, fast-shooting gringos…

For me, personally, they were the first tantalising glimpses of something special beyond the ‘Dollar Trilogy’. All I had to go by were black and white images in books such as 'The Opera of Violence’, and Sir Christopher Frayling’s ‘Spaghetti Westerns’ book.
These random ‘Ringo’ images hinted at a whole new genre, yet to be discovered…

The new double ‘Pistol/Return’ CD is beautiful…it is a gem, and one that I will treasure. I adore the extra tracks, and salute the love and dedication that has gone in to producing this glorious tribute to Morricone/ Tessari/ Gemma.

I’ve just received the CD and it is amazing. The original eight-track release, and then pretty much every cue from the film, in fairly random order but perfect condition, with none of those intrusive sound effects from the previous GDM release. Some of the tracks are quite a bit longer than the versions edited into the film, and there are several unused pieces. Quite hard to tell which scenes some of those were even written for! It comes with a nicely-illustrated booklet, written by Franco di Gemini’s son Daniele, but no explanation as to why it’s taken so long to dig out the master tapes.

Sounds great  Sounded like a release that one had to pick up.

Still waiting for my order of it plus a couple of other scores to ship from Beat Records.

A friend on FB wrote “Several important tracks are missing, e.g. the beautiful organ music when Indio is in the pulpit. The order of the tracks is also somewhat disorganized.”

I love that scene but hadn’t realised it had been omitted. The buildup to Indio’s jailbreak is missing too. But I can’t think of any other tracks that aren’t included. I was glad to have two pieces in particular. First, as Manco is riding back to El Paso in the full blare of the main theme, there’s a quieter, contemplative moment as Mortimer prepares his guns and looks at his watch. I thought that had been missed out, but it’s part of a separate cue and the film splices them together. And second, the escalating guitar riffs before the final showdown version of La Resa dei Conti/Sixty Seconds to What?

It’s nearly 40 years since I got the Fistful of Dollars/For a Few Dollars More UK.LP, which had just six tracks from each. This CD has 33!

Not sure what to do with this release, or whether to buy it…
It was advertised on ‘Amazon UK’ a short while ago at £38.99 or so…
Now, it has shot up in price on the same site to £44.55…That is a lot to ask for what appears to be a single disc CD.

Should I wait, and hope that the price goes down?

At the end of the day, I have to ask myself if I will lose sleep over missing out on a CD costing £45, regardless of it being a Morricone/Leone classic?
That amount of money is a lot to me at the moment.

Do any other amigos have any advice, please, as to what they would do…? Thank u.

If I may ask, how much did you pay for this CD release?
Can you please confirm that it is only one disc…?

I ordered the single-disc version direct from Beat Records and it cost me £39.90. That is way more than I would normally pay for a CD, but I felt I could treat myself in this case, and I am very happy with it.

[Edit - just to add, nearly £10 of the cost was on shipping from Italy to the UK. Beat Records use DHL.]

It hasn’t sold out and is still available directly from Beat Records for 32 euro (+postage)

Postage will definitely feel a lot better if you order more of course

“That was your life, mate…whoosh!”

Actually, looking on the bright side. I’m hoping I’m having a mid-life crisis…that means I’ll live till I’m 122.
