Silver Saddle / Sella d’argento (Lucio Fulci, 1978)

I like this film. It opens really strong, probably too strong, and as such the mid-section of this movie is a let down. Picks up near the end tho, but that ending is so damn corny :weary:

Still, there is enough to enjoy here I think, and visually this film is probably the best looking Spag of the seventies, maybe even a bit better looking than Blindman. Awesome locations, sets, costumes and photography. Fulci is a hell of an action director too!

Yes sir it is!

Does anyone happen to know of any production quality issues with Koch’s blu ray release of Silver Saddle?

My disc I imported from Germany years ago will not register in any player at all - blu ray player, Xbox or PC blu ray drive - none of them even recognize the disc. Its somehow totally corrupted. And there are no physical issues with the disc, its pristine physically.

I thought I had watched it but I guess I am just remembering watching the previous Koch DVD. Pretty bummed this disc is bunk.

I’ve never experienced this or heard of it happening with a retail blu ray

No problems with my copy.

Yeah mine doesn’t work anymore either, it definitely used to work… had a very waxy looking picture unless you went into the extras to add the film grain, never seen anything like that, always had a strange feeling about that blu ray … luckily I still have the rainbow collection DVD

hmmm weird… i figured mine was just a rare defective disc but if yours doesn’t work either then it must be something specific to this release

i guess i definitely hadn’t ever watched it because i don’t remember the options of adding grain in the extras…

i also still have the DVD… guess I’ll just trash this blu ray disc

This is the kind of scenario that makes me uncomfortable with keeping all my movies on discs, without any digital backups

^^ Honestly I’m getting sick of dvds and blu rays and the whole physical media thing… no mentioning all the region coding and missing English dub and stuff like that.

my blu ray player is also giving me errors recently… and some blu ray disc don’t read anymore… some of which I paid expensive price.

for the last 2 months I’ve been ripping my disc to a big hard drive and I’m making my own Netflix… it is so much convenient to just click on a movie and it plays directly… with no ads… no disc loading… etc.

I use a frontend called Kodi which is free and you can make it look really nice too with all the original posters and such.

I’ll probably pack all my disc in a couple of boxes once I’m done and put them in the garage or something.

Two years ago I started doing the same thing, had issues with some dvd’s and Blu’s not playing. So now, i have just about all my movies on four- 4TB and two-2TB external hard drives with two Kodi boxes, one for my big screen TV and the other is up in the bedroom. It’s the best thing i ever did, don’t remember the last time i used a dvd player or a blu for that matter, just collecting dust i guess. :grimacing:

Yep I have also been doing the same. I’ve used Plex for years and love it - basically same thing as Kodi. I generally will play stuff back through my rips instead of bothering with getting out discs and using the player, its just more convenient.

The only reason I haven’t ripped my entire collection yet is low hard drive space and no money for new hard drives yet… but now I’m a bit nervous having run into this SIlver Saddle disc that went bad.

Unfortunately a few previous posts regarding issues with the Koch Media blu ray turn out to true in my case as well… disc just refuses to play in any player i own. Tried my region free player; nothing. Regular player: nothing. Playstation 3 & 4: once again nothing. Just wasted about 10 euros (roughly around 15 dollars) for a blu ray that won’t play. :rage::face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
A damn shame since this was going to be my first time watching this spaghetti western too.

BUYER BEWARE!

Sorry man that sounds like a pain. I bought this about a year ago but never checked it out or watched it. Need to take a look now see if I have the same problem.

Those of you with a non-working disc, @autephex and @chuck_connors_brother do you remember when you bought the disc?

Mine still works and I think I bought it immediately when it came out in 2009. Just wondering if later pressings might have problems or I’m just lucky it still worked.

Thanks yeah definitely a shame, yeah i would certainly recommend checking your copy before you’d run into a unfortunate and unexpected “suprise”. Shame this is the case for a release that has the Koch label on it since usually they are without doubt one of the best labels when it comes to spaghetti western release on Dvd & Blu ray.

Think i will pickup their dvd release of it this week since i do really want to see the movie. Anybody experienced any problems/issues with that one?

Checked my Blu the other night and fortunately it seems to work absolutely fine touch wood. Sorry again… I’m really surprised this was even a thing considering it’s a Koch release. I also have the Koch DVD and that’s also spot on…I’ve used it on both Blu Ray Players and computer and never had an issue.

Happy to hear your copy works fine, seems to be really a sporadic issue as a good buddy of mine from the U.K also has a copy that works fine , while another buddy from the Netherlands also had playback issues with the blu-ray. Definitely a shame since it has the Koch name on it, ah well… hopefully one day they’ll be able to re-release it with perhaps a brand new scan or something.

Thanks for the feedback on the dvd release, think i will buy that for now. :+1::+1:

Yeah I got it in July 2010 on amazon.de, the company Mr Banker Films who were involved in the release, I haven’t heard of before or since then…

edit: they seem to be involved in the new Navajo Joe German Blu ray

Not sure if you still check the forums but - I surely bought it just before making my post reviewing the film in this thread, which was April 2009. I remember buying it right when it came out. I’ve kept the disc but still have not managed to get it to play back ever again, or read in my PC drive.

Also worth mentioning that the Koch blu actually contained different versions of the film - one with DNR applied and one without the DNR that was grainy. Since it was mentioned a few times in the thread that the transfer looked waxy and had an option to “add the grain” - its actually 2 different transfers on the disc.

Silver Saddle has been updated to the new layout (3.0). Let us know if you can add anything: pictures, posters, trivia, facts, figures, links, etc…
