Finally, I come to a man who I have heard of (apart from Tony Leung)!
I’ve encountered a few. For those of you who are followers of HK films, I’ve seen many over the years.
Maggie Cheung was very cold. I saw her in Paris and wanted an autograph. She left right after she detected I wanted to approach her, and I spent the longest time mustering enough courage to do so. I stopped being a fan after that. Tony Leung doesn’t look very remarkable in person. Karen Mok (several times, really really really really skinny), a bunch of HK celebs. I sometimes see Rosamund Kwan and occasionally other celebs in busy, large shopping complexes. I begin to think Rosamund recognizes me, because she sort of smiled when she saw me again somewhere. Cherie Chung is still stunning and this woman is in her 50s.

Jet Li was my highlight. He is an enlightened and compassionate man.
My dad was a journalist for TVB back in the 70s. He probably met a bunch of HK celebs but I don’t have the specifics but I remember him saying that a few of the female ones were trying to get him to hop in the sack with them LOL but thankfully he was faithful to my mom LOL.

I also remember him mentioning he met Raymond Chow (Golden Harvest films) a few times but again I don’t know the specifics.

^That is so cool, Col. Your Dad’s reaction is great.

But that’s his version of the story!

Hehe, if he did, his mother would surely find out and have an ā€œofficialā€ version repeated every time his father does something wrong.

OUTSTANDING!!
I am a great fan of Hong Kong cinema…have been for many many years and everyone you mentioned is an absolute favorite!
Especially Rosamund Kwan…I was in love with her back in the early 90’s! ha ha!
Too bad about Cheung Man-yuk being so cold; but, frankly, I am not surprised. For some reason she always seemed to give off that vibe to me.

I would love to meet folks like these.

I’ve met Sally Yeh (or Sally Yip, if you prefer) and spoke with Simon Yam on the phone, once.
Sally (probably more famous in Asia as a singer than actress) is a wonderful person and Simon was very friendly.
That is the extent of my interaction with Hong Kong cinema folk, so far.

Chris, have you been to HK? I’m sure you’ll have a blast here. Were you interviewing Simon?

Most of the non-Asian actors and actresses I like are dead.

Current directors I’d like to meet: Greenaway and Haneke. I have MANY questions for Haneke. In his interviews he seems to affable, but his movies are so cruel IMO.

Oh… I walked past Monica Bellucci in Paris… I’ve bumped into a couple of European actors but I can’t recall right now.

Has this forum ever had any meetings? In another forum I used to frequent, we have meetings all the time. I met really great friends that way and in fact I feel they are more kindred souls than most of the people I’m thrown together with in ā€œreal lifeā€ through family, school, work, etc. For example, I was preparing to go home and suddenly thought of my poor friend who is stuck with a very difficult case at work. Immediately, she texted me and asked me to go to dinner. Talk about synchronicity.

The idea is not so bad, but there are a lot of people here from different countrys.

There are several members of this forum who have met each other personally. Not me though, although I would like to.

Most of the staff members, but it would be nice with a meeting in the middle of the AlmerĆa desert ;).

Saw recently Mr. Schwarzenegger but he was surrounded with a lot of people!
I met once David Lynch which was a pleasure.

Maybe I met some others but I didn’t know that they were any famous. Would like to meet some of the SW Celebrities.

Actually Silence that is exactly where a bunch of us met up. And it was a great experience.

Will there be more Almeria meets?

Yeah I know… if there will be more AlmerĆa meetings you can count on me ;D!

Never been to a convention but I did get to rub shoulders with a few music business people when I was a youngster as my Dad had 15 minutes of fame in the pop music world in the early seventies working with a guy called Hurricane Smith.

Hurricane was actually plain old Norman really, only not quite so plain old as he was the Norman Smith who engineered all the Beatles recordings up to 1967 when he became a producer and made the first albums with Pink Floyd, The Pretty Things and others. Anyway, Norman got the green light to release a record of his own (which was when he adopted the Hurricane moniker) and he pulled my old man in to supply the sax solos. He and my Dad had been old mates for many years when they used to gig around the semi pro jazz scene in London. Anyway, Dad wound up working on most of Norman’s records plus a whole bunch of other folk at EMI and Decca around the same time and he took me along when he recorded at Abbey Road a couple of times plus a TV taping at Granada studios in Manchester when he did 'Lift Off With Ayshea". Brits of a certain age may remember that show. To be honest I don’t even remember everyone I met around those times but the other acts on ā€œLift Offā€ stick in my mind. Slade and Alvin Stardust ;D

Nothing planned I’m afraid. But we all live in hope.

You surprise me there Phil.

Me either, though i did go to a wedding held at a Star Trek convention. The bride and groom and most of the other guests were attending but once the ceremony/dinner was over i hitched a ride back hom with the bride’s parents!

Phil, how were the Almeria meets organized and how many/who showed up?

There has only ever been the one and it happened because of the Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow event which was held there last year, showing the Dollars trilogy outdoors on sites where the films were shot. It seemed like too good a thing to miss so a few of us decided to go and before we knew it there was five of us travelling out together. It was a genuinely wonderful experience.
You can check more about it here.
