R.I.P. Legends Lost but Remembered

RIP to a talented composer. The Mission Impossible theme is one of the top 5 TV scores ever.

Hulk Hogan, the pro wrestling icon you either loved or loathed, has passed from cardiac arrest as a result from back surgery complications. My mom liked the movies he did in the 1990’s RIP Hulkster

I know I’m very late to these because I haven’t been here for ages but I wanted to publicly say a very belated RIP to David Lynch, Michael Madsen and Clem Burke here. David Lynch was one of my favourite ever film makers and Clem Burke was one of my favourite (and one of the most underrated I think) drummers.

R.I.P Terence Stamp…

RIP Mr. Stamp, the best General Zod and wonderfully frightening as Toby Dammit.

Sad news indeed … I like the guy in several movies, but was a little skeptical about his range as an actor, … he definitely did have that 1960s iconic face going for him - For those who don’t know, he apparently turned down the role of ‘Harmonica’ in OUTW … He could have been great in that if he’d been able to drop the monotone London accent.
Anyway, another biggie gone from the classic cinema era - R.I.P

Stamp has real accent problems in Blue where he is supposed to be an American adopted by Mexican bandits. Robert Redford was originally intended for the role as announced in Variety and Rod Steiger was to play the Karl Malden part. Variety reports that legal action was taken against Redford after he left the project. Stamp seems to have been hired at relatively short notice.

Despite the accent - and he barely talks for the first hour - Stamp looks good though and his movements are very still and then cat-like. He could have done Harmonica visually slipping into the frame out of the corner but the accent would have been a problem (not in Italy though as he’d have been probably dubbed by Enrico Maria Salerno).

Mind you, a strangely assembled production with a Canadian director who had worked in the UK and done a Hammer hag horror and a swinging london movie. I guess the producers thought he would be like Sidney J Furie who had done The Appaloosa (which I like despite it being a rather silly film). Leading lady Joanna Petit is a Brit also and her accent wavers at times.

Sad to hear Stamp has gone. Such an iconic figure of 60s cinema, who made adventurous choices in his long career. I particularly liked him in Ken Loach’s Poor Cow, Stephen Frears’ The Hit. Must get around to watching The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Stamp was a fine actor and an icon of the 60s. He did arthouse, genre, blockbusters. He played a range of different parts over his long career, but not always successfully. As mentioned above, his accent in Blue was unconvincing. However, he was very good In Pasolini’s Theorem and Fellini’s Toby Damnit. I suppose his most memorable performance was that of General Zod.

R.I.P. Robert Redford, aged 89

With many great films to his name…‘The Sting’, ‘All the President’s Men’, 'Three Days of the Condor’, ‘A Bridge Too Far’, 'The Great Gatsby’, ‘Down Hill Racer’, ‘All is Lost’, and ‘Jeremiah Johnson’…to name but a few.

For me, personally speaking, Robert Redford will forever be the ‘Sundance Kid’, in 'Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid’ (1969)…

Adios, and R.I.P…

Wow … that’s a shocker!

Always was a big fan of Redford, and as mentioned ‘Sundance’ is beyond iconic. R.I.P

Always a big fan of Redford too.

Sundance Kid an obvious favourite but he was in a ton of great movies in his time. The other western of his I really like is Jeremiah Johnson. A great snowy western.

He was one of the greats.
