I was thinking that prehaps that gigantic piece of awfulness, Transformers, directed by Michael Bay, might be remembered as the nadir of Hollywood’s love affair with brain-dead, retarded franchises.
Hard to say, who would have thought a PoS film like The Big Lebowski would be so popular after 11 years.
Yeah, in my opinion, there is no point in even guessing at what films will be remembered, and for what reasons, 10 years from now.
Ask me 11 years from now…
;D
It was by the Coen Brothers. Anything by them will always be drooled over by critics (and that’s not such a bad thing!).
Thought Transformers was actually quite entertaining. Like a B-movie with big budget.
Oh dear. I thought it was among the top-five worst films I’ve ever seen. The actor who played the hero in the movie was sooooo irritating. I wanted his character to die very painfully, very soon.
Apart from LOTR, Batman, films of David Lynch and Tarantino, these are some movies I can remember. I think the 90s were much better than the lstb ten years:
The Cooler (2003)
Panic (2000)
O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
The Man Who Wasn’t There(2001)
Lost in Translation(2003)
Oldboy (2003)
Kill Zone (2005)
In the Mood for Love (2000)
Running Scared (2006)
Bittersweet Life (2005)
Amores perros (2000)
The Descent (2005)
Irréversible (2002)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0318374/
In the Mood for Love is such a beautiful movie, definitely one of the best of last decade.
Many have mentioned the LOTR movies here but I’m not sure, it’s the book that will be remembered not necessary the movies. Some of the special effects look already dated in them and well, personally I don’t think they’re that well made films. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone makes “bigger and better” remake again during 20-40 next years.
I agree with you on all points. In my opinion, the method to measure the “imdb Top 250” has to be changed in a way that only movies which have reached a certain age are allowed be part of it. The Quality of computer generated effects don’t last forever but never the less LOTR has moved me quite a bit. As there wasn’t many good films in the last decade, LOTR is still part of my favorites. But theres no doubt: “GBU” is still the best Blockbuster followed by “The empire strikes back” ![]()
Undoubtably, the Dollars Trilogy is the best there is. It will be a very long time until they are beaten (if they ever are even).
amen to that brother!
But the empire will strike back
hasn’t the empire already gotten its revenge?
But the revenge took place bevore the empire striked back. I still hope the empire will strike back in the future and then wen are able to attend the following scene:
“LUKE, I am your Son”
Howeover, GBU will be unbeaten 4ever, though I placed Great Scilene on Top of my list but it ain’t no Blockbuster.
The only masterpieces (in my opinion) made in the last decade are the oft-mentioned Lord Of The Rings movies. I was cynical when they came out, as I did not see how anyone could do a good job with the book, but they are very well done.
I too am cynical about newer movies. Most movies strike me as special-effects extravaganzas with little character development, plot, or cinematography. Hey Hollywood, no more cartoon characters or remakes, please! I also like historical pieces or something a little out of the ordinary, hence my interest in spaghetti westerns.
An example…I have been waiting for The Wolfman remake that just came out. Though I have not seen it yet, the previews show the wolf as moving faster than the eye can see, and reviews indicate a heavy dose of gore. I always hoped that the remake would be creepy and gothic (in short, scary) but apparently Hollywood saw fit to fill it full of special effects and blood (the usual route in modern horror movies). Sometimes it is better NOT to show things.
I’d guess some Coen Bros. or Tarantino films will be remembered, as well as maybe Departed. Some foreign films like Mongol and Downfall have been very well done, but I would not expect them to be remembered.
I don’t see what’s good about Lord Of The Rings at all. The first half hour of the first movie is great but after that it just gets worse. The first movie is overall ok but the other two are pretty bad IMO.
