Yep! Nearly as nice as Nicoletta :-*!
Tack Lindberg !
Superb Burt and Nicoletta Pose from an eagerly awaited SW
I heard once that it was a still from some alternate take or something, so i guess it doesn’t indicate that it was a cut. But i’m not quite sure about that, i read about it some time ago [on swwb i guess].
DVD (design) looks good
But it would have been a lot nicer if they had used poster art. Now it just looks the release of any other American western which is of course what MGM want. Well, the main part is that it is coming out
It’ll look nice next to the Leone films. And if more people buy it because of that that’s only great
The reason for that not happening is probably copyrights. Those are separate from the distributing rights for a movie. Big companies tend to respect those rights more than smaller companies, who slap on original poster art without paying the rights holder a dime for it. Legal aspects aside, I prefer poster art on dvd covers as well.
I wished there would be an Interview of Burt "Bandit"Reynolds on the DVD. Navajo Joe is his best role after his Bandit, Deliverance and Boogie Nights.
I don’t think it’s a question of copyrights per se that prompts MGM not to use original poster art on its Spaghetti Western releases, though that does have to be considered in some cases as Bad Lieutenant has pointed out. They do after all use elements of original poster art on the covers of their Midnite Movies series. I’m sure this is a conscious aesthetic choice that they presume helps the series sell since each release is pitched as a midnight movie double-bill experience that plays upon fans’ memories of their original experience of seeing the films at drive-ins etc. I’m inclined to agree with AvatarDK that it’s more a case of making their Spaghetti Western product look like regular US Westerns in the hope that more general Western fans are tempted to pick them up if they chance across them whilst browsing shelves. But I would prefer that they used the original poster art too.
I am eagerly awaiting this one. I am glad MGM picked up a very hard to find title (I am done spending $50 a title for the Stingray dvd’s).
word
The official release date is 13th, but my order from DVDPacific has already been filled (but not sent yet…).
I ordered at YesAsia.com, also put The Hills Run Red in there to get the free shipping…
I’ve probably asked this before but does anyone know if the MGM version is going to be any different/better than the SPO?
the old japanese dvds are a result of production methods that are outdone by any of the cheap dvds today. there technical specifications result in low bitrate and bad compression. you can be pretty sure that the MGM DVD will offer better picture and audio quality even though it might probably be a Sabata-grade release
Thanks for the info. Guess i may get the newer one after all then at some point.
I’m sure there’ll be plenty of reviews and comments soon after it’s out, in case you need more information on it
