Thanks to a fellow forum member I managed to view this one again in an upgrade from a fullscreen version to a very decent widescreen one. Mallory played by Robert Woods and a friend buy a ranch, but a fellow owner of the ranch from years back is not to pleased about this. Mallory’s friend is shot, but Mallory starts to fall in love with the sister of the guy who wants the ranch…
Woods sports a rather suspect pony tail in this one, but then again he does play a half breed. Forgot how tall Woods is and looks more gaunt in this one than usual. Gabriella Giorgelli is just :-*. I enjoyed the film for what it is, but recall others were not to found of this one…
"Watched ‘Mallory’ last night and I must say that movie is one of the crappiest SW I’ve ever seen !!!
I’ve already written about it for another subject but I have to mention again that the German synchronisation is sooo terrible that one can only stand it by taking it with quite a bit of humor !!!
I thought the synchro. of ‘Wanted Johnny Texas’ was the worst there is but that flic’s is worse, a lot worse even !!!
So the movie has the worst synchro. but is not the worst movie. At least a few nice shootings are presented and the flic is not cut together out of 2 or 3 other movies as is the case with ‘Django Story’ !!!"
I’d rate this as one of the worst serious spaghetties even with nice widescreen picture and english dub. Robert Woods made some truly great SWs but also few of the worst. (Four Candles For My Colt = ROBERT WOODS MELTDOWN!!! :P)
It’s almost completely faded from my memory, but I faintly recall it as being dull and incompetently made. Robert Woods (who sports fashionably long hair in this one - fashionable for the early 1970s at any rate) has singled it out as one of his least favourite movies - and he didn’t like any of his SWs very much.
That’s interesting, since he made some great westerns. Any stories about him to share? I have heard that he was often very difficult to cope with and got kicked out of few films in the middle of shooting for being such a nuisance - The Belle Starr Story was one, if I remember correctly.
I interviewed Woods a number of years ago; I hope the results will appear in print some day.
Woods is a great raconteur, but, yes, I did get the impression that he could be a bad boy at that point in time (he hinted as much). He reckons The Belle Star Story was altered during shooting so that his character would get killed off because Lina Wertmuller and Elsa Martinelli didn’t like him - he made them out to be the villains, but who’s to know the real reason?
