I just got this film from x-rated. In my opinion its the second best Giuliano Gemma film only behind “Day of anger”
It beats me why this one is not more known than it is, it has a good story, very good acting and great cinematography, the only thing this film lacks is a great score from Morricone.
The disc contains two versions a Spanish and an Italian one, on bot of them there is this message “Only for sale in Germany, Austria and Switzerland” beneath the screen.
This message can not be removed and it stays there through the entire film.
Their is also false information on the dvd cover, the spanish version of the film is claimed to run 118 min compared to the italian who only runs 90 min. The fact is that they both run 90 min.
Those things aside this film is still great and the dvd is highly recommended.
I had this message on my official X rated Son of Django release, and managed to get rid of the message by copying the film with DVD shrink and removing the menu screen as this is what causes that forced message.
I do not like doing this, but at least I have purchased the film originally and it is for my use only.
Anyway I now have Son of Django without that message now.
The italian runs 118 Min, and is therefore uncut. Unfortunatly is this version not in the correct aspect ratio, and the picture quality is also not so good compared to the short spanish version.
Nevertheless a good disc, until a better one appears, which maybe is never.
You are right, I watched the spanish version witch according to the dvd cover runs 118 min, but thats wrong it only runs 90 min.
The italian version however should only run 90 min according to the cover, but I just played it through with the fast forward button pressed down and it runs those 118.
So they just messed it up on the dvd cover.
I’ve recently watched this movie again after years. One of Gemma’s best (among ‘Day of anger’ and ‘California’) !!! I liked the score ! Even Tarantino used it in the manga sequence of ‘Kill Bill I’ !!!
You should quit smokin’ ! Just kiddin’ !!! By the way the original Italian title is ’ I lunghi giorni della vendetta’ ! They messed up the cover pretty well !!!
I’ve read somewhere that originally Duccio Tessari was designated to direct this movie.
May be if it so had happened, the title had been changed to Ringo’s Revenge, it had been a greater success, and everybody would hail it now as a classic.
It also struck me when I saw the film that this was “Ringo 3”, I did not know though that Tessari originaly should have directed this film. Had that happened the film would for sure have been named “Ringo something” and be known to a wider audience.
