NEW STUFF IN AND AROUND THE SWDB IN
JANUARY 2026:
Foreword from the Marshall on the state of the SWDb in 2026
I decided that 2026 needs to and will be the year where we’ll fix the technical foundations of the database. Preferrably we can gather enough small amount donations from enthusiasts around the world so I can hire an IT specialist to assist me with that. If all else fails, I’ll have to put up the money myself and tighten my belt a bit.
Donating a dollar or euro or yen or real or whatever to the project is really easy. PayPal has improved the donation experience, check it out - and you don’t even need a PayPal account to donate. Also, whenever you shop at Amazon, click on one of the SWDb’s Amazon links first (same goes for DeepDiscount, FNAC, MoviesUnlimited etc.), it doesn’t matter which one and what you buy.
What is it really that we are spending money on? There are two types of costs we need to cover: The first are running costs (server infrastructure and domain fees). These stay more or less constant, but whenever we get hit by lots of traffic, especially when it’s malicious bot traffic, it would be great to be able to tune up the amount of CPU and memory to withstand this traffic, and that of course costs money. The other type of cost is what I mentioned above: getting some IT help to fix some long standing issues with the tech underneath (that you don’t see) so that we can upgrade the software powering the SWDb, making sure it’s safe and secure, that it loads fast and is fit for the future. Most of this kind of work I traditionally to myself, even though I am not an IT expert, as long as it’s stuff that can be worked out with some googling and trial-and-error. But we’ve gotten to a point where it definitely exceeds my expertise, and also time I have at my disposal.
So those of you that can and want, please throw a few coins into the hat, use the shoppping links, but also just help spreading the word on Facebook and BlueSky and elsewhere so that the SWDb gets the attention it deserves. Thank you for your attention in this matter. SH

Letterboxd
Letterboxed addicts, please do follow the official SWDb Letterboxd HQ account. Click here to learn more about that. Reminder: all film pages in the SWDb have a link to their respective LB entry and the bottom. Please rate and log the films.
Home video news:
January was a bit meagre. The 4K release of The Great Silence in the US is of course a highlight, and so is Carlos’ new book, the home video release of the sequel to Bully’s Winnetou parody and a rare Fidany on DVD, but that’s pretty much it.
February will get more exciting (as to March and April). Plaion is continuing its collection with Fort Yuma Gold, there’s a 4K release of And God Said to Cain, there’s some Danish discs and the Trinity sequel in Italy. That’s not too bad.
Check the calendar regularly, we often update it several times a day! And thanks for those who help out with info, keep those emails coming!
Obituaries
Our head of obits, the spaghettiologist @Tom_B had to update the boot hill cemetery with an unfortunate 8 obituaries over the course of the last four weeks. We hope that by preserving the knowledge about the art they took part in we can honor their legacy.

Reviews:
Please contact us if you want your reviews published. We are especially looking for reviews of movies that have no, or very few, reviews in the SWDb. We publish them in all languages, and you don’t need to be a professional writer!

Location scouting
The SWDb has this past year started to greatly expand the quantity, quality and utility of location information. When travelling to such places, you can now use these for research, find GPS coordinates, tips and tricks, screenshots and more information to make location hunting a breeze. Obviously this remains a work in progress and we value your input.
Check it out: Locations
See you also on BlueSky, where we have surpassed the mark of 716 followers this week.
But yes, we’re still on Facebook, too, and sharing some things out of the community all the time, for example pictures from snow covered Sad Hill or other news from groups and pages, great work others are doing. If you’re still on that social network, do follow us.
