James Bond

Of course The Beatles also did some movies in the 1960s like A Hard Day’s Night, Help! and Yellow Submarine

For me the best Bond films over the years are:

Goldfinger
Thunderball
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

Live and Let Die
The Spy Who Loved Me

Licence to Kill

GoldenEye

Casino Royale
Quantum of Solace

Maybe I should add The World is Not Enough which had the potential for much more.

Watched Dr No last night with the family and it was actually better than I remembered it. Quite dated in places of course and by no means the best Bond ever but it was good fun throughout nonetheless. And one thing really struck me. The score from John Barry, which has become so iconic with the Bond Brand, is even more remarkable when you consider it was just a regular score for this film. Can’t think of a single score that has been used and reused to such great effect.

What about the Star Wars theme? But you’re right, John Barry’s score is great, even if I do prefere this one slightly more:

I love this variation on the theme [url]The Spy Who Loved Me Bond 77 Theme - YouTube

Dr No is a fantastic Bond movie

Joseph Wiseman is great as the villain and the futuristic sets still look impressive (especially when you consider this was a low-budget production)

Since my girls enjoyed Dr No so much the other day we thought we’d follow it up with From Russia With Love tonight. Still my favourite Bond film. Can’t really explain why. There’s something in the setting, the Soviet / Spectre double game, Robert Shaw’s part and the great fight scene in the railway compartment that all adds up to just what I want in a Bond film. Always enjoy seeing a gypsy cat fight too of course and this got me wondering. Apart from the woman who plays Moneypenny can anyone think of an actress who appeared in more than one Bond film apart from Martine Beswick? (she was one of the Gypsy fighting girls in FRWL and Bond’s assistant in Jamaica in Thunderball)

I think the girl who played Kerim Bey’s girlfriend is also in the pre-credits sequence in Goldfinger

Swedish Maud Adams was in a couple of the later Roger Moore Bonds

Adams also had an uncredited bit part in A View To A Kill.

Rewatched Moonraker, the last one I hadn’t seen the 20 years before. Moonraker is a lethargic sequence of would-be climaxes. And therefore maybe the worst of the series. This one or You Only Live Twice or A View to A Kill.

Lewis Gilbert made one of the best Bonds and 2 of the worst.

Which one do you consider to be Lewis Gilbert’s best Bond?

I have to disagree with you when you say his You Only Live Twice is one of the worst Bonds. True, apart from Connery, the acting was generally nothing special and the film was rather flooded with technology, but the climax at the end with the space shuttle inside the volcano was brilliantly handled and is one of my favorite Bond climaxes.

The Spy Who Loved Me  .

The Spy Who Loved Me, of course.

YOLT is for me, just like Moonraker, a film in which nearly everything happens mechanical. Not much really works, everything (and especially the dialogues) is only done routinely, the Bond formula looks only like a tired reworked formula, while TSWLM is a pretty lively film, which is even in places a bit stylish.

TSWLM is a fine and entertaining Bond spectacle, while the other 2 took me only to a status of well-groomed boredom.

Tomorrow Never Dies was another one which was often too mechanical developed. But was at least better directed.

And there’s ninjas in there!

Which don’t help either …

Moonraker seems almost a parody of Bond, and as such it’s pretty hilarious nontheless ;D

Just because it contains space scenes? ::slight_smile:

The Ninja’s weren’t that bad if I remember correctly. I have seen a lot worse Kung-Fu stuff in more modern Hollwood films.
