I Just Bought … (the SW Shopping Diary)

It’s very loosely connected. Basically Tony Anthony plays the same character he did in the Stranger films and goes around with a 4-barrel shotgun. Other than that, it’s a very unique (and bizarre) film.

Oh cool! I am warming up to bizarre aciddy westerns. I have got Dead Man and Blueberry to watch. I can’t locate a copy of El Topo though.

In doing research on Minnesota Clay, I found some conversations with Cameron Mitchell’s nephew where he talked about his uncle and wife Lissa watching the horses be mamed on the sets of the filone he made in Italy and Spain, and actively pulling for the horses to throw their riders. It seemed the one part of the European filming experience that he deplored.

Shocking! I just can’t believe that that cruelty was still going on at that time. I feel really naive.

Really good research though!

No, it’s the 2nd one.
One of the most stupid German titles for sure. I would have changed the title if I had released the film,.

No, I continued today with an order of this double, of which the “Romeo and Juliet”-SW seems promising, that is Fury of Johnny Kid/Ultimate Gunfighter/Ride for a Massacre/Love, Hate and Vengeance.

The other A Pistol for a Hundred Coffins/ A Gun for One Hundred Graves will be a bonus.

Beautiful looking release, I got an email last week mine’s on the way in the mail. I just hope US customs doesn’t hold it for two months in quarantine.

There were some really inspiring comments on the forum thread of Kill The Wicked. I didn’t like Mátalo which I found probably was more trash than fine art (as Django Kill 8/10) on a bad Youtube copy. But since Kill The Wicked was produced before with a similar story but less hippie-like I guess I probably will like it.

It was a bit expensive though with around 70 euro including shipping, but another SW Kill Or Be Killed/Kill Or Die was also included.

DeepDiscount has a War+Western sale going on. To support the SWDb, access it through this link:
Link to war and western sale on DeepDiscount

On the left of that site you will be able to apply a few filters, but I encourage you not to rely on the spaghetti western filter, as that might not be entirely reliable. Try BluRay brand, decade and director also!

I have the Eureka release of Gli Specialisti (Which means The Specialists - plural. Also should note that an alternate translation would be “The Experts”, which I think captures the concept better). There’s an English audio, but it is only partial - the bits that weren’t damaged. I had hoped it would be the bits that appeared in the English version, so that I could identify what had been cut in the English version. But no, it’s just the bits that had not been damaged. So the audio flips from English to French mid-sentence. This would be fine if there were dedicated subtitles for the English version, but there aren’t. What you get is an English subtitle track for the whole movie. Meaning that while they are speaking English, you are getting a translation of the French audio which often bears no relationship to the English audio. However, the English audio, when it turns up, is excellent, because it doesn’t follow the clumsy European sentence structure and just follows the colloquial dialogue style of US Westerns. There is also some discrepancy between the French dialogue and the Italian dialogue, but that is par for the course, since matching lip-movements is essential. Anyway, best to watch in French with English subtitles for total immersion, after all, Johnny Halliday is speaking French, as are the other main French actors and actresses, so their lip-sync is the most accurate. The BluRay picture quality is phenomenal. No damage, no duped shots. Just breathtakingly beautiful.

I have looked for it on the website and it isn’t even advertised when is it coming out?

The Django box set and steelbook? June 30th. It’s not on amazon.ca yet but I am waiting until after it’s released anyways to get it off ebay.

Good plan!
Thanks! I only have the Argent DVD, it has a nice interview with Nero but I want to trade up. It is the same with my Sartana complete Saga DVD from VideoAsia. Naff (crap) picture quality. But has everything.

“Clumsy European sentence structure”

Hahaha

I’m afraid you’ve got this wrong - there are partial subs running with the partial English audio.

Look at the settings in the menu.

I’m looking at the settings in the menu now.
PLAY FILM French Audio
PLAY FILM Italian Audio
PLAY FILM Partial English Dub
Alex Cox commentary
Austin Fisher on the Specialists
Original English Script
French Trailer
Italian Trailer

What did you choose to get subtitles only in the missing bits?
I chose PLAY FILM Partial English Dub.
This had English subtitles all the way through.

Yes indeed. For instance, according to my Italian Grammar book, you can say
“Does Carlo write with a pen?” three ways, each one using the upward inflection at the end to indicate a question, rather than a statement.
Carlo scrive con una penna? (Carlo writes with a pen?)
Scrive Carlo con una penna? (Writes Carlo with a pen?)
Scrive con una penna Carlo? (Writes with a pen Carlo?)

Not with me … perhaps the settings on your player are causing you to get the wrong set of subtitles? … Why not play the film again and flick through the subtitle options manually? Of course it might be a little confusing when they all say ENGLISH, but they should be numbered. Good luck
